Key conditions
Territorial scope
The policy is valid throughout the EEA countries as well as Switzerland, Serbia, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the UK and Northern Ireland, and Montenegro.
Green card rules
For journeys to countries outside the standard territorial scope (e.g. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Israel, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Tunisia, Turkey or Ukraine), the driver must additionally purchase a Green Card.
Driver restrictions
The insurer may bring a recourse (regress) claim against the driver if they operated the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, narcotic or other intoxicating substances, without a licence valid for the vehicle category, fled the scene of the accident or evaded a sobriety test, or failed to provide the insurer with the requested information about the accident.
Claim notification deadline
The insurer must be notified of the accident no later than 10 days from the moment it occurred, and a completed accident statement form must be submitted within the same period if one was used.
Bonus-malus rules
Latvia operates a unified national bonus-malus system with 17 classes: classes 1-5 are malus (higher-risk, surcharge) classes assigned to drivers who caused accidents, class 6 is the starting class for a new policyholder, and classes 7-17 are bonus (lower-risk, discount) classes for drivers with a claims-free history.
