Assistance call deadline
In the event of hospitalization, the insured must notify DKV within 3 days by telephone (+352 42 64 64 1) or email (assistance@dkv.lu). Failure to do so means DKV is not obligated to reimburse. If notification is received late, DKV is only obligated to pay from the day it was informed (Art. 13a of GTC).
Unauthorized treatment
If treatment or other acts exceed what is medically necessary, DKV may reduce its benefits to an appropriate amount. If costs are manifestly disproportionate to services rendered, DKV is not required to reimburse. DKV only supplements statutory health insurance, accident insurance, and pension insurance – it reimburses only the costs exceeding statutory benefits (Art. 11 of GTC).
Purchase while abroad
The insurance contract must be taken out before crossing the border for the foreign country. Coverage does not take effect before the contract is concluded, the premium is paid, and the insured is abroad. It is not possible to take out the policy once already abroad (Art. 6 of GTC).
Chronic conditions
Treatment for chronic conditions for which it was medically established before departure that treatment would be required during the normal course of the trip (e.g. dialysis) is excluded. Reimbursement of long-term medications required before departure is also excluded. Exception applies only if the trip was taken following the death of a spouse or first-degree relative (Art. 12b of GTC).
Pregnancy
Expenses related to a pregnancy known before departure, voluntary termination, sterilization, miscarriage (unless qualifying as acute unforeseen complication), normal childbirth, and postnatal care are not covered. Acute and unforeseeable pregnancy complications are covered, including premature births before week 32 and miscarriages qualifying as unforeseen complications. Medically necessary care for the premature newborn is also covered (Art. 12h of GTC).
pre_existing_conditions
Treatment for pre-established medical conditions that were known to require treatment abroad before departure is excluded. The exclusion applies to any condition where treatment abroad was medically established as necessary before the start of the trip. An exception exists for travel following the death of a spouse or first-degree relative (Art. 12b of GTC).
coverage_duration_limit
The insurance must be taken out for a minimum of seven (7) days per person. The maximum coverage period is 99 days. The contract ends automatically on the expiry date with no automatic renewal. If the insured cannot be transported due to illness or accident at the end of the contract, coverage is extended without additional premium for the same number of days as the original insured period, up to a maximum of 28 days (Arts. 5 and 7 of GTC).
