Accidental Damage to Your Motor Vehicle (Section A)

Covered

Covers accidental loss or damage to the motor vehicle and its accessories (while in/on the vehicle or in a locked private garage for private cars). Settlement is the lower of the policyholder's scheduled estimate of value or market value at time of loss, less the applicable excess. Constructive total loss threshold applies where repair cost equals or exceeds the lower of scheduled/market value. A Replacement Gap Benefit pays up to 110% of purchase price for vehicles within 12 months of first registration where repair cost exceeds 60% of purchase price. The most payable for other claims is the lesser of market value and scheduled estimate, less the excess.

Total Loss Settlement

Covered

If the motor vehicle is declared a Total Loss (beyond repair) or Constructive Total Loss (repair cost equals or exceeds the lower of scheduled or market value), Atlas pays the lower of the policyholder's scheduled estimate of Motor Vehicle Value including Accessories or the Market Value at time of loss, less the excess. Salvage becomes Atlas's property. For brand-new private cars within 12 months of first registration (first and only keeper), Atlas will replace the vehicle with a new one of the same make/model if repair cost exceeds 60% of Purchase Price, up to 110% of Purchase Price. Road licence refund for unexpired portion also paid for private cars declared Total Loss if Transport Malta refund is unobtainable.

Partial Loss / Repair (Section A)

Covered

Where the motor vehicle sustains repairable accidental damage, Atlas pays the estimated cost of repairs (including parts) as determined by a qualified motor surveyor appointed by Atlas. Atlas may use Alternative Parts where appropriate, including for vehicles 7 years or older. Where repairs or parts are unavailable in Malta, Atlas pays based on the manufacturer's approved repair methods at current average Malta rates plus manufacturer's latest parts price guide including reasonable transport costs.

Fire, Theft and Attempted Theft (Section B)

Covered

Covers loss or damage to the motor vehicle, its accessories (while in/on the vehicle or in a locked private garage for private cars) as a result of theft, attempted theft, fire, lightning or explosion. If stolen and not recovered or declared Constructive Total Loss or Total Loss, Atlas pays the lower of the scheduled estimate of Motor Vehicle Value including Accessories or the Market Value, less the excess. Natural Perils / Flood and Convulsion of Nature (Sections A & B via AMP008)

Covered

Comprehensive private car policies include flood and convulsion of nature damage as standard (General Exception 22 – Convulsion of Nature – is deleted for private cars under the standard comprehensive policy per the IPID). Damage by fire, lightning and explosion is covered under Section B for all motor vehicles. Riot outside Malta is excluded for private cars (General Exception 8). Damage caused by lightning, storm and flood is confirmed as included under comprehensive cover per official IPID and EV insurance pages. Note: General Exception 22 applies to Private Motor Cycles only; for private cars, convulsion of nature is included by default under comprehensive cover.

Vandalism / Malicious Damage (Section A with Garaging Warranty)

Conditional

Accidental damage under Section A covers malicious damage/vandalism as part of 'accidental loss or damage', subject to the vehicle not being in a situation excluded by policy conditions. Endorsement AMP006 (Garaging Warranty) specifically excludes vandalism to the vehicle when left unattended overnight unless kept in a locked private/public garage, supervised vehicle park, or locked compound. Therefore vandalism coverage is conditional on overnight garaging conditions where AMP006 applies.

Key conditions

driver_age_experience_limit

No excess applies for third party liability claims for private cars driven by drivers aged 25 or over. A standard excess of €50 applies to own damage, fire and theft claims for drivers aged 25 and over. Drivers under 25 face higher excesses ranging from €75 to €500. Personal Accident benefit excludes anyone below age 18 or aged 76 or older at the time of injury/death. No Claims Discount entitlement and step-back rules are also age-relevant.

repair_network_requirements

Repairers must be included on the approved list by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority. The policyholder is free to choose any approved repairer. Atlas appoints a qualified motor surveyor to determine repair costs. For vehicles 7 years or older, Atlas may use Alternative Parts (recycled or non-original). Atlas cannot authorise repairs in excess of €125 without its prior written agreement. ADAS within the windscreen must be recalibrated by a qualified technician following windscreen repair or replacement.

territorial_scope

Primary coverage area is Malta (Republic of Malta including any recognised sea passage within the republic). Comprehensive private car cover is automatically extended to all Designated States (EEA member states excluding Malta, plus Andorra, San Marino, Switzerland, UK, Vatican City) for up to 30 days per policy year at no extra charge, provided the main permanent residence is in Malta. Endorsement AMP001 allows extension beyond 30 days. Third party liability (Section C) also applies automatically in all Designated States and in Third Countries during a direct journey between Malta and a Designated State where there is no Foreign Bureau.

anti_theft_requirements

Theft and attempted theft claims are excluded if: the motor vehicle was not properly locked; any window, roof opening, removable roof panel or hood was left open or unlocked; keys (or keyless entry system) were left unsecured, unattended, or left in or on the unattended motor vehicle; the vehicle was taken by a family/household member, employee or ex-employee, or the vehicle owner (unless convicted of theft). Where Endorsement AMP006 (Garaging Warranty) applies, cover for theft, fire and vandalism overnight is conditional on the vehicle being kept in a locked private/public garage, supervised vehicle park, or compound secured by locked gates.

claim_notification_deadline

The insurer must be advised in writing of any accident within 14 days of it occurring, or Atlas may refuse to pay the claim (except as required under Legislation). Theft, arson or other criminal acts must be reported to the police. Key loss theft claims require a crime reference number from the police. For Section J (Recovery of Uninsured Losses), the policyholder must tell Atlas about the claim as soon as possible and fully cooperate with the appointed lawyer.

deductible_rules

Standard excess for own damage, fire and theft claims for drivers aged 25+: €50. No excess for third party liability claims for private cars driven by drivers aged 25+. Drivers under 25: €75–€500 excess. The excess for soft top convertible roof damage is 2% of the scheduled Motor Vehicle Value including Accessories or €350 (whichever is higher). The excess may be increased voluntarily to €100 or €200 for a premium discount. If more than one excess applies to a single occurrence, the highest excess applies. Where the third party vehicle driver is uninsured and the policyholder is found entirely not at fault, the excess is refunded and NCD is not affected. The standard own damage excess may optionally be removed for an additional premium (for drivers aged 25+).
