GasanMamo Insurance Limited
GasanMamo
GasanMamo is a motor casco insurance for the Malta market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
On Comprehensive cover, GasanMamo arranges for a motor surveyor to inspect the damaged vehicle and will either pay the approved repairer directly, replace the car, or offer a cash settlement to the policyholder.
Geographic scope
Malta
Own damage (Comprehensive) cover applies to Malta only, with a temporary 30-day extension per period of insurance when the car is taken to another designated state. Third-party liability cover extends to all EU/EEA member states plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the UK, Andorra, San Marino, Vatican City, Monaco, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Coverage limits
Own Damage / Accidental Damage Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
Comprehensive cover pays, at the insurer's option, to repair, replace, or cash-settle loss of or damage to the insured car and its accessories/spare parts, up to the market value of the car but not exceeding the value declared by the policyholder. This section (Section 1) is inoperative under Third Party Fire & Theft except for loss or damage caused directly by fire or theft.
Total Loss / Constructive Total Loss Cover
Covered
A car is a total or constructive total loss when it is destroyed, cannot be repaired for further use, or repair costs equal or exceed the sum insured or market value (whichever is lower). Payout is the market value at the time of loss, not exceeding the declared value; if the insurer retains the wreck it belongs to the insurer, otherwise salvage value is deducted. A 'New Car Concession' replaces the car with a new one of the same make/specification (or pays up to 10% above the declared value) if, within 12 months of first purchase as new, repair costs exceed 60% of list price or the car is stolen and not recovered; this concession is available under both Third Party Fire & Theft (when triggered by fire/theft) and Comprehensive cover.
Partial Loss / Repair Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
Repairs to the insured car following accidental damage are covered; the policyholder may authorise minor repairs up to €250 without prior approval, provided an estimate is sent to the insurer without delay. Repairs may use non-original parts of similar standard. This cover is part of Section 1, which is fully operative only under Comprehensive.
Theft and Attempted Theft Cover
Covered
Theft or attempted theft of the insured car is covered up to its market value/declared value, under both Third Party Fire & Theft and Comprehensive policies. A compulsory first €200 excess applies to theft claims. Cover does not apply if the car was left unlocked, with windows/sunroof open or unsecured, or with the ignition keys or entry devices left in or on the car, or left unattended with the engine running.
Breakage of Glass Cover
€1,000
Only in Comprehensive
GasanMamo pays up to €1,000 per occurrence for replacement or repair of the windscreen, sunroof or window glass (and resulting bodywork scratching); no excess applies and a glass-only claim does not affect the No Claims Discount. This cover does not apply while the car is undergoing servicing or repairs, and is included automatically under Comprehensive cover (Section 8B), which is not operative under Third Party Fire & Theft.
Fire and Natural Perils Cover
Covered
'Fire' is defined as fire, lightning or explosion and is an insured peril under both Third Party Fire & Theft and Comprehensive cover. Other natural perils, such as storm or flood damage, are only covered via Comprehensive's general 'loss of or damage to your car' section (Section 1), which is inoperative under Third Party Fire & Theft except for fire or theft losses.
Malicious Damage / Vandalism Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
Damage from criminal activity such as attempted theft or malicious damage is addressed in the policy's accident guidance (report to police), and is covered as part of Comprehensive's general accidental damage cover (Section 1). This cover is not available under Third Party Fire & Theft, which only responds to fire or theft losses, not general malicious damage.
Roadside Assistance Cover
Covered
Only in Comprehensive
Roadside assistance for mechanical or electrical breakdown (Section 10) is included automatically at no extra cost under Comprehensive cover. It is available as a paid optional extra under Third Party Fire & Theft (Section 11A) and Third Party Only. While the car is abroad in a designated state, roadside assistance costs are covered up to €1,000 per period of insurance (Section 7C); this is not automatically extended for Third Party Fire & Theft/Third Party Only unless an additional premium has been paid.
Hiring of Alternative Car
€250
Only in Comprehensive
GasanMamo contributes up to €250 in total per period of insurance towards the cost of hiring an alternative car of a similar type if the insured car cannot be used due to damage, fire or theft covered by the policy. Prior written approval and a fiscal receipt/hire agreement are required, and this cover does not apply if the driver at the time of the accident was under 21. Included automatically under Comprehensive (Section 8D); not available under Third Party Fire & Theft or Third Party Only.
Personal Accident Cover
€8,000
Only in Comprehensive
Pays €8,000 to the policyholder, spouse, or a named substitute (and their spouse) if accidental bodily injury connected with the car results, within three months, in death, loss of a limb, or permanent loss of sight in one or both eyes; capped at €16,000 in aggregate per period of insurance. Excludes corporate bodies, suicide, injury while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and anyone aged 70 or over. Included automatically under Comprehensive (Section 3); available as a paid optional extra under Third Party Fire & Theft (Section 11C) and Third Party Only (Section 12C).
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
An excess applies when the car is driven by a young or inexperienced driver: €300 for drivers aged 20 or under, €200 for drivers aged 21 or over, and €200 for drivers aged 25 or over who have held a full driving licence for less than 2 years. No excess applies for authorised drivers aged 25+ with more experience. Certain optional covers (e.g. hiring of an alternative car) do not apply if the driver at the time of the accident was under 21.
Repair network requirements
Repair cost estimates use the hourly workmanship rate charged by a repair facility in Malta approved by the car's manufacturer, or, absent such a facility, a rate charged by a facility approved by other similar manufacturers. The insurer may repair using non-original parts of similar standard and may recommend a suitable repairer to the policyholder.
Territorial scope
Own damage cover under Comprehensive normally applies only in Malta, extended temporarily for up to 30 days per period of insurance when the car travels to a designated state (with advance notice). Third-party liability cover extends across the EU/EEA plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein and other designated states.
Anti-theft requirements
The policyholder must take reasonable steps to safeguard the car, including closing all windows and the sunroof, activating any fitted anti-theft device, and removing audio equipment where possible when leaving the car unattended. Theft/attempted theft claims are excluded if the car was left unlocked, with windows or sunroof open/unsecured, with the ignition keys or entry devices left in or on the car, or left unattended with the engine running.
Claim notification deadline
Accidents, injuries, losses or damage must be reported to GasanMamo as soon as reasonably possible. Under the Motor Legal Expenses section, incidents must be reported within 90 days of the policyholder discovering them.
Deductible rules
The highest applicable excess applies where more than one excess could apply to the same claim. Under own-damage cover, no excess applies for authorised drivers aged 25+ with 2+ years' licence experience; age/inexperience excesses of €200-€300 apply otherwise, plus a compulsory first €200 for theft claims. Under the liability section, a €50 (drivers 21+) or €100 (20 or under) excess applies per claim, reducible by €50 with certain optional covers.
