For vehicles purchased new in Malta within 12 months, a total loss is declared if repair costs exceed 60% of the current new list price (including VAT). Otherwise a total loss is declared if repair costs exceed 75% of current market value. A new replacement vehicle of the same make, model and specification is provided if available in Malta.
