SourceKey conditions
territorial_scope
Section 1 (Liability to Others) automatically covers use in all EU/EEA Designated States and Switzerland. The level of cover provided is the minimum necessary to comply with compulsory insurance laws in the country where the event occurs, or the minimum required in Malta, whichever is higher. Cover for loss or damage to the vehicle (Sections 2 and 3) is limited to the Maltese Islands only; extension to Designated States requires additional premium. Cover outside Designated States (third countries) requires both additional premium and a Green Card. The policy is intended for vehicles registered and based in Malta. If the policyholder intends to use the vehicle outside Malta, the insurer must be notified immediately.
green_card_rules
A Green Card (international certificate of insurance issued on behalf of the Maltese local bureau) is required for travel in any country outside Malta and the EU/EEA Designated States. Subject to payment of additional premium and issue of a Green Card, cover under this policy is applicable for the period specified in the Green Card. Transit by recognised sea passage of no longer than 65 hours is also covered. A Green Card is not required for travel within EU/EEA Designated States, where Section 1 (Liability to Others) applies automatically.
driver_restrictions
The vehicle must be driven only by authorised drivers described in the Schedule and/or Certificate of Motor Insurance. Authorised drivers must hold a valid and appropriate driving licence issued by the competent authorities (or a licence that expired no more than 60 days ago as per V3.0 policy). Cover is excluded while driven by any person not described in the Schedule, by anyone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, by anyone whose licence has been revoked, suspended or disqualified, or in circumstances not permitted by the terms and conditions of the licence.
claim_notification_deadline
The policyholder or their legal representatives must give notice as soon as reasonably possible (and in the V3.0 policy, in no case later than 20 days) of any accident, injury, loss or damage, and send every letter or other information without delay. The insurer must be informed immediately upon becoming aware of any civil or criminal proceedings, inquest or fatal enquiry. Theft, vandalism or any other criminal act must be reported to the police immediately. No admission, offer, promise, repudiation, payment or agreement shall be made without the insurer's written consent.
bonus_malus_rules
A No Claims Discount (NCD) is applied when no claim is made during the policy period; the NCD is increased at renewal in line with the insurer's scale. Where a claim is made, the NCD is reduced in line with the scale. If recovery from the responsible party has not yet been effected at renewal, the NCD may be temporarily reduced and then restored once full recovery is made, with any extra premium refunded. Protected NCD is available for Private Vehicles only at an additional premium – NCD is not reduced unless two or more at-fault claims are made in the same policy period. Windscreen/glass breakage claims, lost keys and locks, medical expenses, child seat claims, and entertainment equipment claims do not affect NCD. The NCD scale is published on the insurer's website or available on request.
