Atlas Insurance is a travel insurance for the MT market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
If admitted to a hospital or clinic abroad, the International Emergency Assistance Provider (IEAP) will arrange for covered medical expenses to be paid directly to the hospital or clinic. For simple out-patient treatment the insured should pay and claim back on return to Malta.

Europe and Worldwide (including USA and Canada)
Trips must start and end in Malta; cover applies within the Geographical Area noted in the Schedule (Europe or Worldwide). Europe includes Russia west of Ural Mountains, countries bordering the Mediterranean, the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira and Iceland.

A sub-limit applies for treatment in Malta within 3 months after the booked return date. Limits vary by cover option: Budget €50,000 / Standard €250,000 / Premier €750,000.

Covered under Section B. Includes reasonable additional transport (economy class) and half-board accommodation if medically necessary to stay beyond scheduled return date, and additional costs for a friend or close relative to remain with or travel to the insured. Repatriation by air transport or other suitable means with qualified attendants is covered with prior IEAP authorisation. Repatriation expenses are in respect of the identical class of travel utilised on the outward journey unless IEAP agrees otherwise.

With the prior authorisation of the IEAP, covers the additional costs of using air transport or other suitable means, including qualified attendants, to repatriate the insured to Malta if medically necessary. Emergency medical expenses under Section B are covered if the insured contracts Coronavirus during the trip. Additional accommodation expenses of up to €50 per day up to €700 and up to €300 for additional travel expenses to return to Malta are payable if the insured or select travel companions are forced into quarantine due to Coronavirus (even absent a positive test). Hospital Benefit (Section C) is also payable whilst in hospital due to Coronavirus. General Pandemic/Epidemic exclusion (Exclusion 22) is disapplied solely in respect of Coronavirus under the Coronavirus Extension conditions.

Pre-existing Medical Conditions are excluded. Defined as any medical condition for which the insured is taking or has been taking prescribed medication within the last 12 months, or for which they are waiting to receive or have received treatment (including surgery, tests or investigations) within the last 12 months. Claims arising from pre-existing conditions are excluded under Sections A, B, C and D unless written agreement has been obtained from Atlas Insurance.
SourceWinter Sports Cover (Slalom Extension)

Winter sports are excluded by default. An optional Slalom Extension (Section O) can be purchased at an additional premium. When operative, it provides: up to €1,000 for loss/theft/damage to own or hired ski equipment (max €500 per article/pair/set); up to €50/day (max €350) for hired replacement ski equipment; up to €500 for unused Ski Pack following bodily injury or illness; up to €250 for unused lift pass if lost; up to €50/day (max €350) for transport to alternative ski site if all facilities closed. Certain activities remain excluded even with the extension (e.g. off-piste without guide, heli-skiing, ski jumping).

Explicitly excluded under General Exclusion 8. The following activities are not covered: boxing, bungee jumping, canoeing at grade 4 or above, caving or cave diving, canyoning, rock climbing or mountaineering requiring guides or ropes, extreme sports of any kind, expeditions, gliding, gymnastics, hang gliding, high diving, horseriding in competitions, hot air ballooning (unless organised trip with qualified pilot), hunting, jetskiing, karate, kayaking, martial arts, microlighting, parachuting, paragliding, parapenting, polo, pot holing, quad-biking, rafting, rugby, shark diving, sky diving, sky surfing, trekking/hiking above 2500 metres altitude, tubing, underwater activities with artificial breathing apparatus (except scuba <15m if qualified or supervised), wrestling.

Normal pregnancy or childbirth without any accompanying complication is explicitly excluded under the Important Conditions Relating to Health (Section b.iv). However, pregnancy with accompanying complications is not listed as an exclusion, meaning complications of pregnancy may be covered under Section B Emergency Medical and Other Expenses subject to the standard policy conditions and limits. Cover is conditional on the complication being unexpected and not a pre-existing condition.

The International Emergency Assistance Provider (IEAP) – Global Response – operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Contact number: +44 292 066 2438. Provides advice and assistance for hospital admission, repatriation, authorisation of medical expenses, and arranges transport home when medically necessary. For in-patient hospital treatment or repatriation, the insured must contact the IEAP as soon as possible. Private medical in-patient treatment and repatriation costs are not covered unless authorised by the IEAP or Atlas Insurance.

Assistance call deadline
In the event of a serious illness or accident which may lead to in-patient hospital treatment, or before any arrangements are made for repatriation, the insured must contact the IEAP (Global Response, +44 292 066 2438) as soon as possible. If not possible due to immediate emergency treatment, contact must be made as soon as possible thereafter. Private medical in-patient treatment and repatriation costs are not covered unless specifically authorised by the IEAP or Atlas Insurance.
Unauthorized treatment
Private medical in-patient treatment and repatriation costs are not covered unless specifically authorised by the IEAP or Atlas Insurance. Claims for any form of treatment or surgery which, in the opinion of the Medical Practitioner in attendance and the IEAP, could have been delayed reasonably until return to Malta will not be paid. Additional costs arising from single or private room accommodation are also excluded.
Purchase while abroad
The policy is not explicitly available for purchase while abroad. It is only available to Maltese Residents who have been resident for at least 6 months, and trips must begin and end in Malta. Cover commences when the insured leaves their home or place of business in Malta to start the trip (for non-cancellation sections). Policy must be issued and premium paid before cover comes into force.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases that qualify as Pre-existing Medical Conditions (i.e., conditions for which prescribed medication has been taken within the last 12 months, or for which treatment has been received or is awaited within the last 12 months) are excluded from Sections A, B, C and D unless Atlas Insurance has provided written agreement. Claims arising from conditions known at the time of taking out the policy are excluded.
Pregnancy
Normal pregnancy or childbirth without any accompanying complication is explicitly excluded under the Important Conditions Relating to Health. Complications of pregnancy may be covered under Section B provided they are unexpected, not pre-existing, and the insured was not advised by a Medical Practitioner not to travel.

coverage_duration_limit
Single trip coverage is limited to a maximum of 6 months duration. The Period of Insurance is automatically extended (without additional premium) for the period of unavoidable delay up to a maximum of 30 days if the return to Malta is delayed due to an insured event.
