SourceCOVID-19 Treatment
Excluded
COVID-19 is not explicitly covered. The policy excludes travel to any destination where the World Health Organisation has declared an epidemic or pandemic (Section 2 and Section 3 exclusions). Additionally, claims attributable to communicable diseases or viruses are excluded under the General Exclusions (Disease or virus clause). Treatment for COVID-19 would therefore be excluded.
SourcePre-Existing Medical Conditions
Excluded
Pre-existing medical conditions are explicitly excluded under the General Exclusions. The policy will not pay any claims arising directly or indirectly from a Pre-Existing Medical Condition (defined as any past or current medical condition known to the insured prior to commencement of the Period of Insurance) affecting the insured, a close relative, a close business associate, or any person with whom the insured arranged to travel or stay.
SourceWinter Sports Extension

When purchased, the policy covers the insured whilst engaged in Winter Sports (skiing as arranged by ski-schools for guests, ski-jumping and the use of bobsleighs or skeletons) on a non-competitive and non-professional basis, in respect of Sections 1 (Personal Accident), 2 (Medical and Emergency Travel Expenses), 3 (Cancellation and Curtailment) and 4 (Personal Baggage). Subject to €150 excess per claim. Insured person must wear adequate protective head gear at all times.
SourceAdventure Sports Cover

SourcePregnancy Complications
Excluded
Pregnancy complications are not explicitly mentioned as a covered benefit in this policy. The policy excludes any pre-planned or pre-known medical treatment or diagnostic procedure, and treatment that can reasonably be delayed until return to Malta. Routine pregnancy care would fall under exclusions; emergency complications arising unexpectedly during travel may be considered under Section 2 medical expenses only if they are genuinely unforeseen, but no explicit pregnancy cover is stated.
SourcePersonal Liability

SourceKey conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must contact Global Response Ltd (+44 2920 468790) within 48 hours of being admitted to hospital as an in-patient abroad. Failure to contact Global Response within 48 hours and making own treatment arrangements will result in forfeiture of benefit eligibility.
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured makes own arrangements for treatment without contacting Global Response within 48 hours, or if the medical condition does not require immediate in-patient treatment, the insured will not be eligible for benefit under the international medical claims assistance provision. The insurer may also cancel the policy, refuse to deal with a claim, or reduce any claim payment if the insured fails to comply with the stated health requirements.
Purchase while abroad
The policy period starts from the date the schedule is issued and ends when the insured returns to Malta from the insured journey. The policy can be issued up to 3 months prior to the departure date. There is no provision in the policy documents for purchasing cover after a journey has already commenced.
Chronic conditions
Chronic or recurring illnesses are explicitly listed in the Insurance Product Information Document (IPID) under 'What is not insured'. Pre-existing medical conditions (any past or current condition known prior to the Period of Insurance) are excluded under the General Exclusions of the policy.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is not explicitly addressed as a covered or excluded condition in the main policy sections. Travel with the intention of obtaining medical treatment or consultation abroad is excluded under the Health Requirements (Important Notes). Routine maternity care would be excluded as pre-planned treatment. Emergency complications arising unexpectedly may potentially fall under Section 2, but no explicit pregnancy or maternity benefit is stated in the policy.
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing medical conditions are defined as any past or current medical condition known to the insured prior to commencement of the Period of Insurance. All claims arising directly or indirectly from such conditions are excluded under the General Exclusions, affecting not only the insured but also close relatives, close business associates, or anyone the insured arranged to travel or stay with.
coverage_duration_limit
The insured journey must start and end in Malta and must not exceed 6 months in duration (as per the current policy document versions EILTRPW 005/10.16 and EILTRPW 007/06.18). An older policy version (TravelPolicyDoc_0.pdf) states a maximum journey duration of 3 months. The IPID (EIL.IPIDTR 001/09.18) confirms the 6-month maximum. The policy can be issued up to 3 months prior to the departure date.
