In the event of a claim under Section 2 (Emergency Medical and Associated Expenses and Hospital Benefit) and Section 6 (Personal Accident), the insured may contact the Assistance Centre on the telephone number stated in the Schedule (+356 2248 0209). In-patient hospital treatment or surgery must be notified and authorised by MAPFRE Middlesea p.l.c. in advance; failure to obtain authorisation for in-patient treatment or going home early will result in the cost not being covered.

Unauthorized treatment

The cost of in-patient hospital treatment or going home early that is not authorised by MAPFRE Middlesea in advance will not be paid (Section 2, exclusion ii). Additionally, costs incurred following the insured's decision not to return to Malta after the date when, in the insurer's opinion, it was safe to do so will not be paid.

Purchase while abroad

The policy may be purchased before or at the commencement of the trip. Cancellation cover commences from the date of policy issue. All other cover operates during the period of travel shown on the policy schedule. The policy is purchased before commencement of cover; payment must be made before cover begins.

Chronic conditions

No cover if the insured was suffering from a serious or chronic illness and/or injury which required consultation or treatment during the past 12 months at the time of policy purchase (General Exclusion). Pre-existing medical conditions (any condition for which prescribed medication was taken or treatment received in the last 24 months) are excluded from Sections 1 and 2 under the Health Warranty.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy or childbirth is excluded where the expected date of delivery is less than 12 weeks (16 weeks for multiple pregnancy) before the trip commencement date.
