Key conditions
Territorial scope
The MTPL policy covers third-party liability arising from the use of the insured vehicle in Poland and in all other EU member states, plus Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, and Switzerland, which are signatories of the Multilateral Agreement within the Green Card system. Coverage in countries that are Green Card system members but not Multilateral Agreement signatories (e.g. Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia) requires the optional Green Card add-on.
Green card rules
The Green Card (Zielona Karta) is an optional, paid extension to the MTPL policy that confirms insurance cover in countries that are members of the Green Card system but are not signatories of the Multilateral Agreement. The Green Card contract may not exceed the term of the underlying MTPL contract. Customers wishing to travel to such countries should contact their agent (UNEXT) to obtain the Green Card before travelling.
Driver restrictions
No specific driver age or experience restrictions are stated in the publicly available product materials for this MTPL product, which is a compulsory insurance. Any driver of the insured vehicle who is licensed to drive it is covered as required by Polish compulsory insurance law. Specific exclusions (e.g. driving under the influence) apply as per the statutory provisions of the Act on Compulsory Insurance.
Claim notification deadline
For damages occurring in Poland, the claim must be reported within 5 business days of learning about the event. For damages occurring abroad, the claim must be reported within 5 days of crossing back into Poland. Additional deadlines may apply in specific circumstances as defined in the OWU.
Bonus-malus rules
Direct ubezpieczenia applies a bonus-malus system for MTPL pricing. Policyholders accumulate no-claims discounts for each claim-free year, reducing their premium. A claim during the policy year results in a malus (premium surcharge) at renewal. Bonus-malus history is portable between insurers in Poland. Specific tariff classes and discount percentages are determined individually at the time of quotation based on the policyholder's claim history.

Policy specifics
Basic Assistance scope limitation
The basic Assistance included in the MTPL premium covers only accidents and collisions (not breakdowns) and is limited to Polish territory only. The towing benefit is capped at 150 km from the incident location. For broader coverage (breakdowns, foreign territory, vehicle replacement), customers must purchase an extended Assistance variant as a paid add-on.
Green Card requires additional premium
The Green Card international certificate is not included in the standard MTPL premium and must be purchased as a paid add-on. It is required when travelling to countries in the Green Card system that are not covered by the standard MTPL territorial scope (non-Multilateral Agreement countries).
NNW (personal accident) sum insured
The optional NNW Komunikacyjne add-on (covering both driver and passengers) carries a sum insured of PLN 10,000. This figure is sourced from a third-party comparison site (mubi.pl) and should be confirmed against the current PID or OWU for the NNW product.
Statutory guarantee sums
The guarantee sums for MTPL in Poland are fixed by law (Act on Compulsory Insurance, as amended 6 November 2024) and are identical across all insurers. They amount to EUR 6,450,000 for bodily injury and EUR 1,300,000 for property damage per event, regardless of the number of victims. No insurer may unilaterally reduce or increase these amounts.
