Key conditions

Territorial scope

The MTPL policy covers events occurring in Poland, all EU member states, and countries that are signatories to the Multilateral Agreement (including Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia). Events in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova are not covered. For travel to non-EU Green Card System member countries not covered by the Multilateral Agreement, the optional EUROINS Zielona Karta add-on must be purchased.

Green card rules

The standard Polish MTPL policy serves as proof of insurance within EU member states and Multilateral Agreement signatory countries. The optional EUROINS Zielona Karta (Green Card) product extends coverage to non-EU countries that are members of the Green Card System but not signatories of the Multilateral Agreement. The Green Card is issued for a period of no less than 15 days and no more than 12 months. The guarantee sum corresponds to the minimum statutory guarantee sums defined by the law of the country where the event occurred, at least equal to the Polish statutory minimum guarantee sums. The EUR equivalent in PLN is calculated at the NBP mid-rate on the date of loss.

Driver restrictions

The MTPL policy covers civil liability of any person who drives the insured vehicle with the knowledge and consent of the owner or another authorised person, including damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence. Coverage does not apply when the driver was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics (if this influenced the accident), drove without required authorisation, or drove an unregistered or technically unfit vehicle (if this influenced the accident). The insurer retains the right of recourse against the driver in such excluded cases.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder or insured must report a loss as soon as possible. In the event of an accident involving personal injuries or in circumstances suggesting a criminal offence, police must be notified immediately. In the case of vehicle theft, notification to the police must occur within 12 hours of learning of the theft. For damage occurring abroad, EUROINS must be notified within 7 days of learning of the event, but no later than within 2 business days of returning from abroad. EUROINS must acknowledge and begin investigation within 7 days of receiving the claim notification and issue its decision within 30 days.

Bonus-malus rules

The bonus-malus system is governed by the Polish Compulsory Insurance Act and the UFG (Ubezpieczeniowy Fundusz Gwarancyjny) database. Claim-free periods confirmed in the UFG database are taken into account in premium calculation. Each claim-free year may result in a premium discount of up to 10%. Premium factors include the number of claims in previous insurance periods, years of insurance continuity, age of the owner/primary driver, and years of driving licence held. EUROINS uses a proprietary automated risk assessment algorithm.
