Generali Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń S.A.
Generali
Generali is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Poland market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Generali does not participate in the Direct Loss Settlement System (Bezpośrednia Likwidacja Szkód – BLS); claims are handled through the at-fault driver's insurer directly.
Geographic scope
Poland and Multilateral Agreement signatory states
Mandatory coverage applies to the territory of the Republic of Poland; on the basis of reciprocity, also covers events in territories of states whose national bureaux are signatories of the Multilateral Agreement (EU member states, EFTA states, Andorra, Serbia, Montenegro, United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Unique selling points
- Free International Motor Insurance Certificate (Green Card) issued upon request, valid for all Multilateral Agreement signatory countries.
- Optional Discount Protection clause guarantees that one OC claim per year does not reduce the no-claims bonus or increase the premium at renewal.
- MTPL can be purchased online, by phone, or through an agent, with instant policy issuance via the generali.pl calculator.
- Bonus-Malus discounts for claim-free driving history and additional discounts based on driving licence tenure, with access to the Generali Loyalty Rewards Programme.
- MTPL policy can be extended with optional covers (Autocasco, Assistance, NNW, Autoszyby, private liability) in a single package for greater protection.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability (death, personal injury, health impairment)
Covered
Covers civil liability for bodily harm (death, personal injury, or health impairment) caused to third parties in connection with the movement of the insured vehicle. The guarantee sum of 29,876,400 PLN applies per event regardless of the number of victims. The sum is statutory and determined at the NBP average exchange rate on the date the damage is caused.
Property damage liability
Covered
Covers civil liability for property damage (destruction, damage, or loss of property) caused to third parties in connection with the movement of the insured vehicle. The guarantee sum of 6,021,600 PLN applies per event regardless of the number of victims. The sum is statutory and determined at the NBP average exchange rate on the date the damage is caused.
Legal defence
Excluded
Legal defence costs for the policyholder are not covered under the compulsory MTPL insurance. The insurer covers defence of the insured's interests only in the context of settling third-party claims, not as a standalone legal defence benefit.
Green Card (International Motor Insurance Certificate)
Covered
Automatic coverage applies in all countries whose national bureaux are signatories of the Multilateral Agreement. Upon request, Generali issues the International Motor Insurance Certificate (Green Card) free of charge. For countries outside the Multilateral Agreement, separate Green Card extension cover (ZK) is available. The guarantee sum equals that applicable in the country of the event, but not less than the Polish statutory minimum.
Roadside assistance
Optional
Roadside assistance (Auto Assistance) is not included in the compulsory MTPL policy. It is available as a separate optional cover in variants Standard, Komfort, Komfort Plus, and Lux, purchasable together with MTPL or Autocasco at Generali.
Driver accident benefit (at-fault driver)
Excluded
The at-fault driver's own injuries are not covered under the compulsory MTPL insurance; OC covers only third-party claims. Accidental injury cover for the driver is available as a separate optional NNW product (NNW w Pojeździe or NNW Kierowcy).
Passenger bodily injury (as third party under MTPL)
Covered
Passengers injured in an accident caused by the policyholder are covered as third parties under the compulsory MTPL bodily injury liability, up to 29,876,400 PLN per event. Separate voluntary NNW cover for passengers is available as an add-on.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
The compulsory MTPL insurance covers events on the territory of the Republic of Poland and, on the basis of reciprocity, on the territories of states whose national bureaux are signatories of the Multilateral Agreement (EU member states, EFTA states: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and also Andorra, Serbia, Montenegro, United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina). For states in the Green Card system but outside the Multilateral Agreement, a separate extension (ZK) is available.
Green card rules
The International Motor Insurance Certificate (Green Card) is issued free of charge by Generali upon policyholder request, confirming coverage in the countries listed therein. Coverage in Multilateral Agreement signatory states is automatic. For non-Multilateral Agreement Green Card system countries, the separate ZK extension must be purchased, which is only available concurrently with a Generali MTPL policy. The guarantee sum equals the amount applicable in the country of the event, not lower than the Polish statutory minimum.
Driver restrictions
Coverage is provided for any person driving the insured vehicle during the period of insurance liability who caused damage in connection with the movement of that vehicle. The insurer has the right of recourse against the driver if: the damage was caused intentionally, the driver was under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, the driver did not hold required driving authorisations, the driver illegally entered possession of the vehicle, or the driver fled the scene of the accident.
Claim notification deadline
In the event of an insured event, the participant is obliged to notify the insurer without delay, provide all necessary explanations, and cooperate in establishing the circumstances of the event. The insurer must pay the undisputed part of the benefit within 30 days of receiving notification of the event; if circumstances cannot be clarified within that period, within 14 days of clarification of those circumstances.
Bonus-malus rules
The premium is calculated individually taking into account the Bonus-Malus class reflecting the policyholder's claims history, the duration of the driving licence, the age of the vehicle, engine capacity, and other risk factors. Discounts are granted for claim-free driving history; surcharges are applied for prior claims. An optional Discount Protection clause (Ochrona zniżki z gwarancją ceny) is available, maintaining the no-claims discount and premium level after one OC claim within a 12-month policy period.
