Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact Compensa's Alarm Centre as soon as possible after the event. The general duty to report the claim is within 14 days of the accident (§12 ust. 1 pkt 1 OWU Compensa Podróż). If the Alarm Centre could not be reached through no fault of the insured, costs self-organised by the insured are reimbursed within the insured sum.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured self-organises treatment without contacting the Alarm Centre (unless contact was impossible through no fault of the insured), Compensa reimburses only those costs that the Alarm Centre would have incurred had it organised the treatment; costs exceeding this are not refunded. Intentional or grossly negligent failure to notify may lead to a reduced payout.

Purchase while abroad

If the insured is already outside Poland at the time of conclusion of the contract, a 3-day waiting period (karencja) applies before coverage begins (§7 ust. 2 pkt 2 OWU Compensa Podróż). Compensa does not cover events and their consequences for insured persons who were abroad at the time of conclusion of the contract, unless the 3-day karencja has elapsed.

Chronic conditions

Sudden, unexpected exacerbations of pre-existing chronic diseases are covered within the standard medical expenses sum (per the OWU definition of 'choroba'). Planned treatment of chronic conditions, treatment in sanatoria or spas, and any travel taken for the express purpose of treatment are excluded.

Pregnancy

Medical emergencies related to pregnancy are covered as a sudden illness, but childbirth occurring after the 32nd week of gestation and all associated post-natal care are excluded. Abortion is excluded unless performed to save the insured's life.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Coverage applies to sudden, unplanned exacerbations of chronic/pre-existing conditions (explicitly included in the OWU definition of 'choroba'). However, ongoing treatment commenced before the trip, treatment that was the purpose of travel, and stays in sanatoria or addiction treatment centres are excluded.

Coverage duration limit

The policy can be taken out for a short-term period (single trip, max 180 days under Voyage II framework, or as per Compensa Podróż) or as an annual multi-trip policy with individual trips not exceeding 120 days. The policy period is specified on the policy document (polisa).
