Direct payment

The insurer settles claims cashlessly (bezgotówkowo) directly with the medical facility or service provider in the majority of cases. If cashless settlement is not possible, the insured pays out of pocket and may claim reimbursement by contacting the Alarm Centre as soon as possible, preferably within 7 days of the incident, at refundacje@nn.pl.

Medical treatment costs (Koszty leczenia)

Covered

Covers necessary medical treatment costs (consultations, diagnostics, hospitalisation, surgery, outpatient treatment, medications, orthopaedic aids) during foreign or domestic travel due to sudden illness or accident. The sum insured is chosen by the customer at policy purchase up to a maximum of 2,000,000 PLN. Benefits are paid up to the sum insured stated in the policy. All items in Table 1 of the OWU fall under this single sum insured.

Emergency medical treatment (acute/accident)

Covered

Covers emergency medical treatment (consultations, necessary diagnostics, hospitalisation, surgery) ordered by a physician and which cannot be postponed until return to Poland, in the event of sudden illness or accident during foreign travel. Paid up to the KL sum insured stated in the policy. When the insured has not yet crossed the Polish border, an aggregate cap of 20% of the KL sum insured applies (max. 60,000 PLN).

Hospitalisation

Covered

Hospitalisation (minimum 24-hour uninterrupted stay in a medical facility) during foreign travel is covered under the KL sum insured. Additionally, a daily hospital benefit of 100 PLN (up to 2,000 PLN total) is paid for hospitalisations of at least 3 days in EU/EFTA countries, provided the insured holds a valid EHIC card accepted by the facility. In domestic travel outpatient treatment up to 5,000 PLN applies; hospitalisations covered under the COVID-19 provisions fall under the full KL sum insured.

Outpatient treatment

Covered

Covers outpatient treatment (tests, medical assistance, procedures, doctor visits, doctor home visits, purchase of necessary medications, dressings, orthopaedic aids such as prosthetics, crutches, orthoses) during foreign travel up to the KL sum insured. In domestic travel, outpatient treatment is covered up to 5,000 PLN. Includes one follow-up visit after an accident (up to 600 PLN) or following doctor recommendation after acute illness (must occur outside Poland).

Emergency dental treatment

Covered

Covers emergency dental treatment in the event of sudden inflammation or when medical assistance is required following an accident. Coverage is limited to immediate temporary tooth stabilisation only. Root canal treatment and crown reconstruction are explicitly excluded.

Medical transport

Covered

Covers medical transport to the nearest medical facility or between medical facilities (when the current facility cannot provide appropriate care per physician order), all within the KL sum insured for post-border foreign travel. For pre-border/domestic travel, medical transport (not requiring emergency intervention) is covered up to 1,500 PLN. Also includes taxi or public transport from the medical facility to the place of stay after treatment (up to 400 PLN) for post-border foreign travel.

Medical evacuation / Return transport to Poland

Covered

Organised and paid without limit (does not reduce the KL sum insured) for return transport to Poland or to a medical facility where treatment will be continued. The treating physician together with the Alarm Centre physician decides on the necessity and mode of transport. Transport is organised if the previously planned means of transport cannot be used. For pre-border travel the return transport limit is 20% of the KL sum insured, max. 60,000 PLN.

Repatriation of remains / Burial abroad

Covered

Organised and paid without limit (does not reduce the KL sum insured) for transport of the body to the burial site or burial abroad in the event of the insured's death during foreign travel, including from natural causes. Covers the costs of the transport coffin or urn, cremation, and sanitary and administrative costs. For pre-border travel the limit is 20% of the KL sum insured, max. 60,000 PLN.

Search and rescue (mountains and sea)

Covered

Covers documented costs of a rescue or search operation conducted by rescue services in the mountains or at sea. The search time is counted from the moment rescue services receive a notification of disappearance until the insured is found or taken over by medical services. Not covered in cases of presumed kidnapping or actual kidnapping.

COVID-19 treatment

Covered

Covers COVID-19 treatment costs (including diagnostics, hospitalisation, surgery) ordered by a physician that cannot be postponed until return to Poland, paid up to the KL sum insured stated in the policy. Additionally covers COVID-19 isolation accommodation and meals (ordered by local medical authorities after a positive named diagnostic test, when the reserved stay cannot be used or must be extended): up to 10 days and 3,000 PLN for post-border foreign travel; up to 7 days and 1,500 PLN for pre-border/domestic travel. Also covers return transport after isolation (up to 500 PLN). Conditional on compliance with local law and orders of local authorities.

Pre-existing / chronic disease coverage

Conditional

Chronic diseases (defined as diseases or health problems diagnosed or treated within 2 years prior to policy purchase that are permanent, leave disability, cause recurring symptoms, or require continuous medication) are automatically covered up to 20% of the KL sum insured without any extension. By purchasing the optional 'Exacerbation of Chronic Disease' rider (Zaostrzenie Choroby przewlekłej), coverage is extended to 100% of the KL sum insured. This applies to both post-border foreign travel and pre-border/domestic travel components. Excluded: continuation of treatment for diseases that began before the policy was purchased (unless the extension is selected). Excludes: mental disorders, depression, congenital defects, STDs, AIDS/HIV even if not previously treated.

Winter sports cover (Sporty zimowe)

Optional extension covering winter sports (bobsleigh, ice yachting, ice hockey, kite-skiing, kite-snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, cross-country skiing, luge, snowboard or alpine skiing on marked runs, and sports using snow/ice vehicles). Pregnancy complications / Premature birth

Covered

Covers costs of premature birth occurring before the 32nd week of pregnancy, and costs of medical care for the mother and newborn (up to 10,000 PLN). Also covers one doctor visit if the insured's health suddenly worsens in connection with pregnancy (up to 500 PLN). Pregnancy and childbirth after the 32nd week of pregnancy are explicitly excluded, as are contraceptives and termination of pregnancy unless performed to save the insured's life or health.

Personal liability (OC – Odpowiedzialność Cywilna w życiu prywatnym)

Optional extension covering the insured's civil liability for damages caused to third parties during domestic or foreign travel in the course of private life activities (leisure, childcare, cycling/scooter/wheelchair use, pet ownership, sports). The sum insured is chosen by the customer up to a maximum of 1,000,000 PLN. Exclusions include: damage to close relatives, damage at work, communicating a disease, damage to money or documents, sports in non-designated areas, use of weapons, driving without a licence, unlicensed airline crew/passenger. Fines, lost profits, and punitive damages are not covered.

Included within the base Assistance package for foreign travel. Covers the cost of a lawyer's fee for legal assistance if the insured faces a legal dispute during leisure travel abroad. The insurer is not responsible for the lawyer's actions. Also includes interpreter/translator assistance during hospitalisation or in civil liability disputes (up to 2,000 PLN).

24/7 Alarm Centre assistance

Covered

The insurer's Alarm Centre (+48 22 483 39 77) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Alarm Centre organises and coordinates all assistance services including medical transport, physician visits, legal assistance, travel information (travel assistant service without limit), financial assistance after robbery (up to 3,000 PLN), data recovery (up to 500 PLN), flight delay reimbursement (up to 2,000 PLN for delays of 6+ hours on return flights), and companion stay (up to 7 days / 400 PLN per day for hospitalisations over 7 days). The insured must contact the Alarm Centre as soon as possible, preferably within 5 days of the incident.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the Alarm Centre (+48 22 483 39 77) as soon as possible after an accident or sudden illness, preferably within 5 days. If it is impossible to contact the Alarm Centre due to reasons beyond the insured's control, the insured may cover the costs themselves and then claim reimbursement by contacting the Alarm Centre as soon as possible, preferably within 7 days of the loss, via email at refundacje@nn.pl.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured acts against the physician's recommendations or refuses transport to Poland, no further costs of hospitalisation and Assistance services arising from such a decision will be covered. Additionally, treatment costs that exceed the medical services strictly necessary to restore the insured's health to a level enabling transport or return to Poland are not covered.

Purchase while abroad

If all insured persons are in Poland at the time of policy purchase, coverage commences no earlier than 4 hours after policy conclusion. If at least one insured person is already abroad at the time of policy purchase, coverage commences no earlier than 3 days after policy conclusion. The policy can be purchased up to 4 hours before departure.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases (diagnosed or treated within 2 years prior to policy purchase, permanent, causing recurring symptoms or requiring continuous medication) are automatically covered up to 20% of the KL sum insured. The insured may purchase the optional 'Exacerbation of Chronic Disease' rider to extend this to 100% of the KL sum insured. Examples of chronic diseases: allergy, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy and childbirth after the 32nd week of pregnancy are excluded. Premature birth before the 32nd week and associated medical care for mother and newborn are covered up to 10,000 PLN. One medical visit for sudden health deterioration related to pregnancy is covered up to 500 PLN. Contraceptives and termination of pregnancy are not covered unless the termination is performed to save the insured's life or health.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Continuation of treatment for diseases that began before policy purchase is excluded (Section 1.4 exclusions). This exclusion does not apply to exacerbation of chronic diseases: the base policy covers chronic disease treatment up to 20% of the KL sum insured; the optional Zaostrzenie Choroby przewlekłej rider extends this to 100%. Mental disorders, depression, congenital defects, sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS and HIV are excluded even if not previously treated.

Coverage duration limit

The contract is concluded for a maximum of 6 months. Coverage ends when the contract expires (end of insurance period) or when the sum insured is exhausted (whichever occurs first). Coverage is automatically extended free of charge by up to 48 hours if the insured's return is delayed due to force majeure beyond their control (breakdown of transport, natural disaster, cancellation/delay of public transport due to weather, traffic accident).
