Direct payment

Lusitania participates in the Direct Settlement to the Insured Convention (IDS), allowing direct payment to the insured for certain third-party liability claims when the Friendly Accident Statement (DAAA) is properly signed by both drivers, processed via the e-SEGURNET application.

Geographic scope

Portugal

Valid throughout Portugal and, under the Green Card system, in all countries where the Green Card is accepted, corresponding to the territorial scope of the compulsory motor liability insurance.

Unique selling points

  • Optional Auto 4X4 Patas cover reimburses treatment expenses for pets injured while being transported in the insured vehicle, a niche add-on most competitors don't offer.
  • Market Variation cover pays up to an extra 20% of the insured value on top of the total-loss payout in the month of the occurrence.
  • Driver Protection Extra+ combines a treatment-expense capital with a monthly income for 10 years in case of death or permanent disability, applicable with or without fault.
  • Glass damage repaired at Carglass or Caetano Glass partner workshops waives the €50 deductible and offers an immediate, free mobile repair service.
  • Kilometre-based discount campaign can reduce renewal premiums based on verified low annual mileage for claim-free policyholders.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

The compulsory liability insurance and its Legal Protection guarantee are valid for accidents occurring within the territorial scope of the compulsory motor liability insurance, i.e. in all countries for which the Green Card is valid.

Green card rules

The Green Card is the standardised international certificate proving valid motor liability insurance; if an accident occurs abroad in a Green Card adherent country, the claim can be filed with the local Green Card Bureau office listed on the back of the Green Card document.

Driver restrictions

Any person legally licensed to drive is permitted to drive the insured vehicle under the policy.

Claim notification deadline

Claims are reported via the Friendly Accident Statement (DAAA) or the e-SEGURNET electronic application; for claims involving cargo/goods damage or loss-of-use compensation, Decree-Law 291/2007 sets a settlement deadline of 60 days under the relevant provisions.

Bonus-malus rules

An optional Bonus Guarantee cover can be contracted to prevent premium increases following a claim notification; separately, the annual mileage-based discount campaign requires no claims to have occurred in the annuity (or the last two annuities) to qualify.
