Direct payment

Direct settlement (decontare directă) is an optional add-on (140 RON/year) allowing the insured, as an accident victim without fault, to claim compensation directly from Grawe Romania. Applies only to collisions between two vehicles registered in Romania, both with valid RCA, resulting in material damages only and no bodily injuries. The insured's Bonus-Malus class is not affected.

Geographic scope

Romania and Green Card member countries

Coverage valid in Romania and all Green Card member countries, excluding Azerbaijan (AZ), Israel (IL), Iran (IR), Morocco (MA), Russia (RU), Tunisia (TN) for all vehicles; additionally Albania (AL), Belarus (BY), Moldova (MD), Turkey (TR), Ukraine (UA) excluded for heavy freight vehicles (GVW ≥3,500 kg) and passenger transport vehicles.

Unique selling points

  • Optional direct settlement (decontare directă) at a fixed cost of 140 RON/year, allowing no-fault victims to claim directly from Grawe without involving the at-fault driver's insurer.
  • Solvency ratio (SCR) of 252.4% in 2024 — approximately 2.5 times the legal minimum — indicating strong financial stability backed by the Grazer Wechselseitige group (founded 1828).
  • Five-tier optional roadside assistance range (Gama Mobil: Basic, Util, BasicPlus, Premium, PremiumEuropa), with the highest tiers offering support across Europe, available as an add-on to the RCA policy.
  • Same net premium regardless of distribution channel — the final price varies only by the distribution costs of the chosen sales channel, ensuring pricing transparency.
  • Policy can be issued online instantly via my.grawe.ro, with flexible durations from 1 month to 12 months and no automatic renewal.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Coverage applies in Romania and in all countries listed in the Green Card document that forms part of the insurance contract. Excluded for all vehicle categories: Azerbaijan (AZ), Israel (IL), Iran (IR), Morocco (MA), Russia (RU), Tunisia (TN). Additionally excluded for freight vehicles (GVW ≥3,500 kg) and passenger transport vehicles: Albania (AL), Belarus (BY), Moldova (MD), Turkey (TR), Ukraine (UA).

Green card rules

The Green Card (Carte Verde) is automatically included as an integral part of the RCA policy and is purchased automatically with it. It is valid in all Green Card member countries subject to the exclusions stated in the territorial scope. Compensation limits abroad are set by the legislation of the country where the accident occurred. For vehicles travelling outside Romania, the Green Card document must be carried.

Driver restrictions

There are no specific named-driver restrictions under the standard RCA policy. The policy covers any person driving the insured vehicle with the owner's permission. However, the at-fault driver's own damages are excluded. High-risk insured persons may be assigned to Grawe through the BAAR (Romanian Motor Insurers' Bureau) allocation procedure, with premiums calculated from the ASF reference tariff.

Claim notification deadline

The insured must notify Grawe RCA within 5 working days of the accident. The insured must also provide Grawe with information on the causes and circumstances of the accident and all documents necessary for case handling. For accidents involving two vehicles resulting only in material damages, notification may be made using the agreed accident report form (constatare amiabilă).

Bonus-malus rules

The legal Bonus-Malus system is mandatory and applied in accordance with current legislation. The Bonus-Malus class is obtained from the AIDA database (which records all issued RCA policies). The scale ranges from B8 (50% of annual base premium) through B0 (100%) to M8 (180%). The insured may request a damage history certificate covering the last 5 years to support their Bonus-Malus classification. Direct settlement (decontare directă), if opted in, does not affect the Bonus-Malus class.
