ČSOB Poisťovňa, a.s.
ČSOB
ČSOB is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Slovakia market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Premium can be paid by postal money order, bank transfer, cash deposit to the insurer's account, or (for online-arranged policies) by payment card, according to instructions given at conclusion of the contract.
Geographic scope
Slovakia, EU member states and Green Card countries
Cover applies in Slovakia, all EU member states, and other Green Card countries. The current IPID (2024/2025 edition) explicitly excludes Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Iran, Russia and Belarus from the Green Card territory. Note: an older (2020) marketing brochure states validity across the whole of Europe and the Russian Federation, which conflicts with the current IPID exclusion list; the IPID is treated as authoritative as it is the more recent, product-specific document.
Unique selling points
- Complimentary NONSTOP roadside assistance is bundled with the base MTPL policy, including on-site repair, towing, storage and lock/key help.
- Customers can opt into a Nadštandard/Premium liability limit of up to 7,000,000 EUR for both bodily injury and property damage, well above the base tier.
- An enhanced 'Premium' assistance package with higher limits and expanded services is available for a minimum of just 11 EUR per year.
- Assistance service limits are automatically increased when the MTPL policy is combined with ČSOB Casco cover.
- The policy can be arranged fully online, with the premium payable by card and policy documents delivered by e-mail.
Coverage limits
Property damage liability limit (incl. lost profit)
€2,000,000 – €7,000,000
Standard tier: 2,000,000 EUR for property damage, effectively incurred legal costs, and lost profit (VPP-PZP Art. 10.1a; IPID; brochure - all agree). Nadštandard/Premium tier: 7,000,000 EUR for the same items, available only for L/M1/N1 vehicles up to 3.5 t.
Legal defence costs
Conditional
Reasonably incurred legal representation costs for pursuing claims are covered, but per VPP-PZP Art. 3.2(c) only if the insurer failed to meet its Art. 8 duties (timely investigation/decision) or wrongfully refused/reduced payment; the IPID lists it as a standard covered item within the same limit as property damage (2,000,000 / 7,000,000 EUR), without a separate sub-limit.
Green Card / international cover
Covered
The insurer automatically issues a Green Card (currently in white format) after conclusion of the policy, serving as proof of insurance for cover valid in Slovakia, all EU member states, and other Green Card countries. Per the IPID, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Iran, Russia and Belarus are explicitly excluded from that territory, whereas an older marketing brochure states cover extends across all of Europe plus the Russian Federation - the two statements conflict; the IPID is more recent and treated as authoritative.
24/7 roadside assistance
Covered
Complimentary NONSTOP assistance is automatically included for M1/N1 vehicles up to 3.5 t and category L vehicles (motorcycles, quads): on-site repair (up to 150 EUR abroad), towing to home or nearest garage (unlimited domestically per the brochure, up to 150 EUR abroad), vehicle storage (up to 10 days), lock/key assistance, tyre-puncture help, and continuation of the trip after theft. An optional 'Premium' assistance upgrade is available for a minimum annual fee of 11 EUR, providing expanded services and higher limits; limits are further increased if combined with ČSOB Casco insurance.
Driver accident cover
Excluded
MTPL liability insurance does not cover injury to the driver of the vehicle that caused the damage. VPP-PZP Art. 4.1(a) excludes liability for the driver's own injury, and the IPID lists this exclusion explicitly.
Passenger accident cover
No limit stated
No distinct passenger-accident benefit is described in the provided sources; injured passengers are compensated as third parties under the bodily injury liability limit rather than through a separate accident benefit.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies to insured events in Slovakia, all EU member states, and other countries with which the Slovak Insurance Bureau (SKP) has a mutual claims-settlement agreement (Green Card countries). Per the current IPID, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Iran, Russia and Belarus are explicitly excluded from that territory, contradicting an older marketing brochure which claimed cover across the whole of Europe and Russia.
Green card rules
The insurer issues a Green Card automatically after the policy is concluded; it serves as the sole required proof of insurance when driving in the covered Green Card territories, and its printed country list determines validity per country.
Driver restrictions
No specific driver age or experience restriction is stated for base MTPL cover in the reviewed sources. However, the insurer retains a right of recourse against the policyholder/insured if the vehicle was driven without a valid driving licence, by a person banned from driving, or by someone knowingly entrusted despite not meeting legal driving requirements (VPP-PZP Art. 11).
Claim notification deadline
The insured must notify the insurer in writing of a claim event within 15 days if it occurred in Slovakia, or within 30 days if it occurred abroad.
Bonus-malus rules
The policyholder is assigned a premium discount (bonus) or surcharge (malus) depending on claims history; the insurer checks the number of claims and total MTPL insurance duration across all insurers over the past 10 years via the register kept by the Slovak Insurance Bureau. The bonus increases with more claim-free months of insurance, while the malus increases with claims incurred.
