Groupama Biztosító Zrt. – Insurance Company, Slovenia Branch (Groupama Zavarovalnica)
Groupama
Groupama is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Slovenia market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The insurer directly reviews and settles justified third-party liability claims and may make declarations on the policyholder's behalf regarding compensation or defence; the policyholder must leave claim handling to the insurer and may not acknowledge or settle claims without its consent.
Geographic scope
Republic of Slovenia
Valid in the Republic of Slovenia and in countries that are signatories to the Agreement between national insurance bureaus of EEA member states and other associated members (Green Card system), and in other countries; for vehicles with foreign registration under border insurance, cover is limited to EEA countries and Switzerland only.
Unique selling points
- Free replacement vehicle for up to 10 days after an accident, sold as an exclusive add-on to the AO policy.
- GROUPAMA Assistance add-on organises towing, key-related help and a replacement vehicle whenever the car becomes unroadworthy after an accident or breakdown.
- Free 'Drive Angel' mobile app bundled with the assistance package automatically alerts the emergency call centre via E-call if it detects an accident.
- 'Zaščita bonusa' lets policyholders in premium class 14 or better buy out the malus consequences of their first claim for an extra premium.
Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability
Covered
The insurer covers third-party bodily injury/death claims arising from use of the insured vehicle, up to the sum insured agreed in the policy, which may not be lower than the statutory minimum under the Slovenian Compulsory Motor Insurance Act as published by the Ministry of Finance; abroad within Green Card signatory states the insurer applies whichever is higher of the contractual sum or the visited country's minimum.
Property Damage Liability
Covered
The insurer covers third-party claims for destruction or damage of property caused by use of the insured vehicle, up to the sum insured agreed in the policy, subject to the same statutory minimum mechanism as bodily injury liability.
Legal Defence Costs
Covered
The insurer defends the policyholder against unfounded or excessive claims and reimburses litigation costs in full if the insurer consented to or caused the litigation; if litigation occurred without the insurer's involvement, only the proportion of costs corresponding to the ratio between the sum insured and the awarded compensation is reimbursed. Defence costs in criminal proceedings are covered only if the insurer expressly agreed to the defence counsel and committed to reimbursement.
Green Card
Covered
Territorial cover extends to countries that are signatories of the Green Card system (Council of Bureaux General Rules); this carve-out does not apply to this product but only to a separate border-insurance policy type for foreign-registered vehicles, under which an international Green Card cannot be issued and cover is limited to EEA countries and Switzerland.
Roadside Assistance (GROUPAMA Assistance)
Optional
Optional add-on service providing organisation of towing and vehicle transport, help with lost/locked keys, remedy for wrong fuel refuelling, transport of the insured persons, and a replacement vehicle when the vehicle is not roadworthy after an accident or breakdown.
Driver Accident Cover (AO PLUS)
Optional
Optional rider (AO PLUS, policy AOPGP-01/24) reimbursing legally recognised damage for bodily injury suffered by the driver of the insured vehicle when the driver is at fault, up to the sum insured agreed in the policy; in case of the driver's death, a flat funeral-cost benefit of 3,500 EUR is paid to relatives in addition to legally recognised damages. The insurer's benefit is reduced by 25% if the driver was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet as required by law. Fear-related damage, bruises/abrasions, and damage to belongings/clothing are excluded.
Passenger Accident Cover
Optional
Optional accident insurance for the driver and passengers (and workers driving/operating the vehicle) providing a benefit in case of death or disability resulting from an accident while driving or riding in the vehicle; specific sums insured are set in the policy and not stated in the reviewed documents.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies in Slovenia and in Green Card signatory countries (EEA member states and other associated members) as well as other countries; abroad the insurer's obligation is capped at the higher of the contractual sum insured or the visited country's statutory minimum, while in non-signatory countries the Slovenian statutory minimum applies.
Green card rules
Within Green Card signatory states, the insurer's liability extends up to the higher of the agreed policy sum or the visited country's minimum statutory sum; an international Green Card cannot be issued for foreign-registered vehicles insured under border insurance, whose cover is limited to EEA states and Switzerland.
Driver restrictions
Additional premium/increased-risk categories include: rental/car-sharing use, taxi service, commercial passenger transport, test drives, transport of hazardous substances, vehicles owned by legal entities, and drivers with less than 3 years of driving experience or requiring an accompanying driver. Rights under the policy are lost in cases such as driving without a valid licence, driving with a revoked/suspended licence, driving under the influence of alcohol (over 0.50 g/kg blood or 0.24 mg/l breath) or drugs/psychoactive substances, intentional causing of damage, a technically unroadworthy vehicle, or leaving the scene without providing details.
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must notify the insurer of the insured event no later than three days from the day they became aware of it.
Bonus-malus rules
Premium is set via 20 premium classes (40%-200% of the base premium); a new policy starts at class 14 (100%). Each claim-free insurance year moves the policyholder one class lower (bonus) in the following year; each reported claim in the past year moves the policyholder three classes higher (malus), counting at most four claims per year. Policyholders eligible for class 14 or better may buy out the consequences of a first claim for an additional premium ('Zaščita bonusa'/bonus protection), which is not available mid-term. For fleets of 11 or more vehicles, premium may instead be adjusted based on the ratio of settled claims to premium paid over the past three calendar years, with bonus applied below 68.0% loss ratio and malus above 93.5% (capped at 85% increase).
