Direct payment

The insurer settles justified third-party claims directly with the injured parties and manages claims handling and legal defence on the policyholder's behalf; the policyholder is not entitled to independently acknowledge liability or settle claims.

Geographic scope

Slovenia, EEA/Green Card member states, and other countries

Coverage applies in the Republic of Slovenia and in countries that are signatories to the Agreement between national insurers' bureaux of EEA member states and other associated members (Green Card System); in visited Green Card countries the insurer applies the higher of the policy sum or the destination country's statutory minimum. In all other countries, the insurer's obligation is limited to Slovenia's statutory minimum sums insured.

Unique selling points

  • Driving-license legal protection is automatically included in the AO policy at no extra charge.
  • Policyholders can freely choose their own repair shop and repair method after a claim.
  • Policyholders in premium class 1 with a 50% bonus keep that discount after a first claim and are only moved to class 4 instead of the standard class 14.
  • Sava's authorised Quick-Check partner garages assess vehicle damage on the spot and take the car directly in for repair.
  • A free 24/7 roadside assistance call centre is available to help drivers and passengers anywhere on the road.

Coverage limits

Bodily Injury Liability

€6,450,000

Covers third-party claims for death, bodily injury, or impaired health caused by the use of the insured vehicle. Art. 9 of the AO 02/16 terms sets the sum insured by reference to the statutory minimum under the Slovenian Motor Insurance Act (ZOZP), which stands at EUR 6,450,000 per claim event regardless of the number of victims since the 2024 statutory increase, and automatically rises if the legal minimum is raised further.

Property Damage Liability

€1,300,000

Covers third-party claims for destruction or damage of property caused by the use of the insured vehicle. The sum insured follows the statutory ZOZP minimum, which has stood at EUR 1,300,000 per claim event regardless of the number of victims since the June 2024 increase.

The insurer investigates and defends the policyholder against unjustified or excessive claims. Section: I. UVODNE DOLOČBE > 4.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Valid in Slovenia and in Green Card System signatory countries (EEA and associated members); in other countries the insurer's obligation is limited to Slovenia's statutory minimum sums insured and applicable Slovenian tort/insurance law. Border insurance for foreign-registered vehicles is valid only in Slovenia, the EEA, and Switzerland, and no international green card can be issued for it.

Green card rules

In Green Card signatory countries, the insurer covers claims up to the higher of the destination country's statutory minimum sum insured or the contractually agreed sum; if the contractual sums are higher than the destination country's minimum, the higher contractual sums apply.

Driver restrictions

A vehicle driven by a driver with fewer than 3 years of driving experience is treated as increased risk requiring a premium surcharge. Insured persons lose their rights under the policy if the driver lacked a valid licence for the vehicle category, had their licence withdrawn or suspended, drove under the influence of alcohol (over 0.50 g/kg blood alcohol or 0.24 mg/l breath alcohol), drugs or psychoactive substances, caused the damage intentionally, drove a technically unroadworthy vehicle, or left the scene without providing identification and insurance details.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify the insurer of the claim event no later than 3 days from the day they became aware of it.

Bonus-malus rules

Premium is set via 18 premium classes (3-20) as a percentage (45%-200%) of the base premium; a new policy starts at class 14 (100%). Each claim-free insurance year moves the policyholder one class lower (bonus) the following year; each claimed loss moves the policyholder three classes higher (malus), counting up to a maximum of four claims per year. A policyholder may buy out the consequences of a first claim (odkup prve škode) for an additional premium so that one claim in the year is disregarded for reclassification purposes.
