Coverage limits

Own damage to the insured vehicle

Covered

The insurer covers the cost of repair to the insured vehicle arising from an accident caused by an external, violent and instantaneous event regardless of the driver's will, whether the vehicle is in motion, stationary or in transit. Covered causes include collision, rollover, sinkhole, deliberate acts by third parties (provided the insured took reasonable steps to prevent them), manufacturing defects, and hail. Tyres are covered at 100% of new value when other vehicle elements are also damaged in a collision. For partial losses the indemnity equals the actual repair cost; for total loss it equals new value (vehicles ≤ 1 year, first owner) or market value (older vehicles or subsequent owners). No fixed monetary cap stated in the general conditions; sum insured is the vehicle value updated annually.

Source

Total loss

Covered

A total loss occurs when the estimated repair cost exceeds the new value (vehicle age ≤ 1 year) or the market value (vehicle age > 1 year). For vehicles up to 1 year old with the first owner, indemnity equals the new retail price (excluding road tax) minus salvage value; for older vehicles or subsequent owners, indemnity equals market value (Eurotax tables) minus salvage value. For financed vehicles, indemnity is paid first to the financing entity registered at the DGT.

Source

Partial loss / repair costs

Covered

Where the insured vehicle does not meet the total-loss threshold, the indemnity is calculated on the actual repair cost of the parts replaced and the labour used. A deductible (franquicia) may apply if agreed in the particular conditions; no deductible applies in total-loss claims.

Source

Theft and robbery

Covered

Covers damage or loss of the insured vehicle and its elements resulting from unlawful seizure or attempted seizure by third parties. Full-vehicle theft: indemnity paid within 40 days; new value for vehicles ≤ 1 year (first owner) or market value otherwise. Partial theft of factory-fitted elements: 100% of new value (tyres/battery limited to 80% of new value); one indemnity per policy year for fixed in-vehicle electronics. Attempted theft: 100% of resulting damage covered. No deductible applies in total-loss/disappearance claims. Police report required.

Source

Glass breakage

Covered

Covers accidental breakage of laminated or tempered glass in the insured vehicle (windscreen, rear window, side windows and glass sunroofs) caused by an accidental, violent cause independent of the owner's or driver's will. Indemnity covers the cost of replacement parts and fitting labour, provided the replacement is actually carried out. Repair of damage to the front panoramic glass is also covered where the nature and extent of the damage allow. Damage to headlights, lights, indicators, mirrors and plastic sunroofs is excluded.

Natural perils / weather damage

Optional

Hail (pedrisco) is included within the own-damage coverage (Art. 8) at no extra cost. Other meteorological events (storms, flooding, etc.) and extraordinary natural events (earthquake, volcanic eruption, cyclonic storms, etc.) are covered by the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros mandatory backstop included in every auto policy by law. Additionally, 'Daños meteorológicos' is listed in the IPID as an optional add-on that extends weather coverage beyond the base policy; 'Daños cinegéticos' (wildlife collision) is also an optional add-on.

Vandalism / malicious acts by third parties

Covered

Damage caused by malicious acts of third parties is covered under own-damage (Art. 8), provided the insured took all reasonable steps to prevent the act and the event is not derived from terrorism, rebellion, sedition, riot, popular unrest or acts by armed forces or security forces in peacetime (those risks are covered by the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros). No separate monetary limit; indemnity follows the general own-damage rules. Interior upholstery damage caused while assisting accident victims is covered up to EUR 300 per claim.

Roadside assistance / travel assistance

Covered

24-hour roadside assistance from km 0, covering mechanical assistance or towing (max 60 minutes on-site; towing to the nearest official dealer or insured's chosen workshop within 100 km; towing costs covered up to EUR 240.40 per tow), vehicle rescue (up to EUR 600), vehicle repatriation (if repair > 8 hours or immobilised > 3 days and vehicle is > 100 km from the insured's home), hotel expenses (up to 4 nights at EUR 61/person/night), occupant transfer or hire car (up to EUR 300), key duplication, and a full set of personal and medical assistance guarantees including emergency medical transport, convalescence expenses (up to 10 nights at EUR 61/day) and medical/surgical/pharmaceutical expenses abroad (up to EUR 6,000). Vehicle assistance scope: Spain, Europe and Mediterranean-rim countries from km 0. Person assistance scope: worldwide from km 0.

Replacement vehicle

Optional

A replacement vehicle is listed as an optional (paid add-on) coverage in the IPID. Within the base travel-assistance coverage, a hire car up to EUR 300 is available when the insured vehicle is immobilised for more than one day in Spain or more than three days abroad; this is a temporary travel measure rather than a standalone replacement-vehicle guarantee.

Driver personal accident

Covered

Covers the driver of the insured vehicle against death or permanent disability resulting from a traffic accident. Death benefit and permanent disability capital: between EUR 30,000 and EUR 100,000 depending on the level selected in the particular conditions. In case of total permanent disability the insured receives 100% of the contracted capital; partial permanent disability is paid according to a scale set out in Art. 4. A death advance of EUR 3,000 is available immediately. Medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospital expenses incurred abroad are covered up to EUR 6,000 (under Art. 9 travel-assistance). The insured must hold a valid driving licence.

Key conditions

driver_age_experience_limit

Drivers under 25 years of age or with less than 2 years of driving licence experience are excluded from own-damage (Art. 8), glass breakage (Art. 5), driver accident (Art. 4) and legal defence (Art. 3) coverages unless they are expressly named in the particular conditions. The voluntary civil liability coverage (Modalidad B) also excludes damage caused when the vehicle is driven by such a person unless designated in the particular conditions.

repair_network_requirements

For urgent repairs costing up to EUR 200, the insured may proceed without prior authorisation, submitting the invoice with the claim declaration. Above that threshold, the insurer and insured must agree on the indemnity or repair method before proceeding. If no agreement is reached within 40 days of the claim declaration, each party appoints an expert. The insurer is not responsible for delays or defects in repairs carried out by workshops. Free workshop choice is listed as an optional add-on in the IPID.

territorial_scope

Own-damage, theft, fire, legal defence, claims and driver accident: throughout the EEA and states party to the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement, plus Morocco. Roadside/travel assistance for vehicles: Spain, Europe and Mediterranean-rim countries from km 0. Person assistance: worldwide from km 0 (medical expenses abroad only). Traffic-fine defence: Spanish territory only.

anti_theft_requirements

No specific anti-theft device is required as a condition of theft coverage. However, theft claims not reported to the police are excluded; a copy of the police report must be provided to the insurer. Theft due to gross negligence of the insured, policyholder, driver or cohabitating family members is excluded.

claim_notification_deadline

The policyholder, insured or beneficiary must notify the insurer of a claim within a maximum of 7 days of becoming aware of it. For legal defence claims, the deadline is also 7 days. Failure to notify in time may entitle the insurer to claim damages caused by the late declaration, unless the insurer already had knowledge of the claim through other means. Loss of the right to indemnity only occurs where the failure was deliberate or grossly negligent.

deductible_rules

A deductible (franquicia) may be agreed in the particular conditions for own-damage, fire, theft and glass claims. The specific deductible amount is set in the particular conditions and varies by coverage. No deductible applies to total-loss or vehicle-disappearance claims under fire and theft. In the case of the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros extraordinary-events cover, no deductible applies to vehicles insured under an automobile policy.
