Direct payment

Medical assistance services are covered without advance payment by the insured (no reimbursement model for direct assistance). AXA's 24/7 medical team coordinates with treating physicians. Prior authorization is required for planned care; in emergencies, the insurer arranges care directly. If direct intervention is impossible due to force majeure, the insured will be reimbursed upon return with supporting documents.

Medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospitalization expenses

Covered

Covers medical and surgical fees, prescription pharmaceuticals, hospitalization, and orthotics/prosthetics required for urgent in-situ care, up to the limit in the certificate. For Spanish residents, the limit in Spain is 1,000 EUR. Online contracting via axa.es gives 3,000 EUR in Spain and 10,000 EUR outside Spain. The Mini variant includes medical expenses up to 25,000 EUR. Any individual fee or pharmaceutical expense under 10 EUR is excluded.

Emergency medical treatment

Covered

Emergency medical treatment resulting from accident or illness during the trip is covered, including surgical and medical fees, up to the policy limit specified in the certificate. The Mini variant covers up to 25,000 EUR in total medical expenses. Treatment is organized and authorized by the insurer's medical team in contact with the treating facility.

Hospitalization costs (minimum 24-hour admission or overnight stay with a main meal) are covered up to the overall medical expenses limit indicated in the certificate. Hospitalization in Spain for Spanish residents is subject to the 1,000 EUR in-Spain sub-limit.

Medical transport and sanitary repatriation

Covered

Covers ambulance transport to the nearest clinic or hospital, transfer to the most suitable hospital or habitual residence, and subsequent transfer home after discharge. The transport mode is chosen based on the insured's pathology. Air ambulance is available in Europe and Mediterranean countries; regular airline elsewhere. Obligations cease once the insured has returned home or been admitted to a facility within 25 km of their habitual residence.

Medical evacuation

Covered

Emergency medical evacuation is included as part of the sanitary repatriation guarantee. When urgency and severity require it, evacuation by special air ambulance is arranged in Europe and Mediterranean countries; by scheduled airline elsewhere. Repatriation of remains

Covered

Covers all formalities at the place of death and transport or repatriation of the deceased to the place of burial in the country of habitual residence. Also covers transport of insured companions to the burial location. Burial and ceremony costs are explicitly excluded.

Covers search and rescue costs incurred by public or private rescue services in case of loss or disappearance of the insured during the trip, up to 5,000 EUR per person (max 25,000 EUR per single claim). Winter sports coverage

Optional

Skiing, snowboarding, monoski and sledding are covered only when performed on correctly marked and signposted pistes, and only under the optional Sports guarantee add-on. Ski-related activities (skiing off-piste, Heliski) are excluded from the base policy and from the sports add-on.

Adventure and higher-risk sports such as scuba diving (up to depth of qualification, max 30m), surfing, windsurfing, sailing, archery, horse riding and similar are covered only under the optional Sports guarantee add-on. High-risk sports (alpinism, parachuting, hang gliding, boxing, rugby, martial arts, off-piste skiing, motor sports) remain excluded even with the add-on.

Pregnancy complications

Unforeseeable complications of pregnancy in the first seven months (up to 28 weeks of gestation) are covered, provided they are not related to pre-existing conditions. Childbirth and complications from the 7th month of pregnancy onwards are excluded. Voluntary termination of pregnancy is also excluded. Complications arising prior to policy subscription are excluded.

Private personal liability

Covers monetary compensation the insured is obliged to pay as a private individual for unintentional bodily injury or material damage caused to third parties during the trip, up to the limit in the certificate (up to 60,000 EUR per the marketing page). AXA Assistance provides 24/7 round-the-clock assistance service accessible by reverse-charge call. The insured must contact assistance within 7 natural days of the event. Once a call is received, the insurer activates its international organization to assist the insured wherever they are.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact AXA Assistance within a maximum of 7 natural days from the date of the incident. Contact can be made by reverse-charge call. Medical and transport services must be authorized in advance by the insurer's medical team, except in cases of force majeure.

Unauthorized treatment

Guarantees and services not requested from or authorized by the insurer are not covered, except in proven cases of force majeure or material impossibility. If the insured delays or refuses a transfer arranged by the insurer's medical team for reasons attributable to the insured, coverage ceases. In force majeure situations, the insured will be reimbursed on return with supporting documents.

Purchase while abroad

The policy must be contracted before the trip departure date. If subscribed after the trip has started, coverage takes effect 72 hours after the certificate issuance date. A complementary policy must be issued before the end of the previous policy; if issued after, a 72-hour waiting period applies.

Chronic conditions

Diseases or injuries resulting from pre-existing, serious or chronic conditions with risk of worsening, as well as their complications and relapses, are excluded. Psychiatric, mental or nervous diseases with or without hospitalization are also excluded. The insurer's medical team may review all medical reports.

Pregnancy

Childbirth and pregnancy complications from the 7th month (28 weeks) onwards are excluded. Unforeseeable pregnancy complications in the first seven months are covered, provided they are not related to pre-existing conditions. High-risk pregnancies are excluded. Voluntary termination of pregnancy is excluded.

Illnesses and injuries resulting from such conditions, including complications and relapses, are excluded from coverage. This exclusion applies throughout all guarantees.

coverage_duration_limit

The trip duration may not exceed the period specified in the insurance certificate, unless a complementary policy is contracted. The insurer's obligations end when the insured returns to their habitual residence or is admitted to a medical facility within 25 km of their home (15 km in the Balearic and Canary Islands). For annual multi-trip corporate policies, each trip has a maximum of 120 consecutive days of coverage.

Policy specifics

Medical expenses limit in Spain

For Spanish residents, medical expenses in Spain are subject to a sub-limit of 1,000 EUR per the IPID 2022 and Corporate Premium IPID. When contracted online via axa.es, the limit in Spain is 3,000 EUR and outside Spain 10,000 EUR. These limits can be expanded through an AXA agent or office.

Trip cancellation coverage

Trip cancellation is an optional guarantee (Garantía Opcional de Anulación de Viaje) covering real cancellation costs for over 31 specified causes including illness, injury, death, employment events, judicial summons, and natural disasters. The trip cancellation guarantee applies only if the triggering event occurs after the policy subscription date.

Medical repatriation and transport

Coverage for emergency medical repatriation, transport of injured or sick persons to the nearest or most appropriate hospital, and return transport after discharge. In case of death, all formalities and transport to the country of habitual residence are covered. Air ambulance is used in Europe and Mediterranean countries; scheduled airline elsewhere. AXA manages over 20,000 medical repatriations annually.

Baggage loss and delay coverage

Covers theft (only by violence or intimidation), total or partial loss due to carrier, and damage from fire or assault, up to the limit in the certificate. Electronic equipment is covered up to 50% of the total baggage sum. Simple misplacement and theft without force are excluded. Exterior damage is limited to 50 EUR (base policy) or 70 EUR (sports add-on). Normal wear and depreciation are deducted. Delayed baggage reimbursement included for delays over 8 hours or one overnight.

Territorial scope of coverage

Coverage is divided into three territorial groups: (1) Europe and Mediterranean neighbours (Jordan included), (2) Worldwide excluding USA, Canada and Japan, and (3) Worldwide including USA, Canada and Japan, according to the destination contracted. The insurer's obligations end when the insured returns to their habitual country of residence.

Policy duration and timing requirements

The policy must be contracted before the trip departure date. If contracted after the trip has started, coverage takes effect after 72 hours from certificate issuance. The trip duration may not exceed the duration specified in the insurance certificate. Coverage extends from planned departure to planned return date.

Insured residency requirement

The policy holder (Tomador) must be a legal resident in Spain (individual of legal age or legal entity). Each insured person must be under 85 years of age. For online sales via axa.es, the insured must be a Spanish resident or resident in Spain with valid NIF, NIE or CIF.

Maximum indemnity per claim

The maximum indemnity per single claim shall not exceed 120,000 EUR across all coverages combined, as confirmed in both the IPID 2022 and the Corporate Premium IPID. For accident death/permanent disability, the maximum per single claim is 30,000 EUR.
