Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact ERGO's assistance center by phone before receiving medical care (except in emergencies or proven force majeure). Medical and sanitary transport services must be arranged with ERGO's medical team prior to execution. If ERGO has not been contacted and direct intervention is not possible, the insured will be reimbursed upon return to Spain against presentation of invoices.

Unauthorized treatment

Medical or transport services arranged unilaterally by the insured without prior authorization or knowledge of ERGO will not be covered, unless there is a demonstrable emergency or force majeure. If ERGO has issued a payment guarantee to a third party and it subsequently transpires that the expenses were not covered by the policy, the insured must reimburse ERGO within 30 days of the request.

Purchase while abroad

The policy can be contracted at any time, including after the trip has already started. However, when the policy is contracted after the start of the trip, a mandatory 72-hour waiting period applies from the date of contracting before guarantees (except cancellation-related ones) become effective. Baggage theft coverage is excluded when the policy is contracted after the trip has started.

Chronic conditions

Chronic or pre-existing conditions are excluded from the standard medical assistance coverage, except for the first 24 hours of emergency treatment for an unpredictable vital emergency arising from an unforeseen complication of the chronic condition. Full coverage of chronic and pre-existing conditions in vital emergencies (up to 100,000 EUR) is only available if the optional pre-existing conditions package has been contracted.

Pregnancy

Deliveries (births) are explicitly excluded. Unforeseeable pregnancy complications are covered within medical expenses only during the first 24 weeks of gestation. Risk pregnancy requiring bed rest (arising after policy contracting), serious complications threatening the pregnancy, and premature birth are covered as trip cancellation causes (clauses 1.6, 1.7, 1.8).

pre_existing_conditions

Pre-existing conditions (those diagnosed, under treatment or study, or that could not have gone unnoticed prior to contracting the policy or at the start of the trip) are excluded from medical coverage by default. Without the optional package, only a first-attendance emergency treatment within 24 hours of the onset is covered for vital emergencies from unforeseen complications. The optional pre-existing conditions package extends medical coverage for vital emergencies up to 100,000 EUR and adds trip cancellation cover for relapses and complications (clause 1.9).

coverage_duration_limit

In the annual policy modality, stays exceeding 90 consecutive days are not covered; the Temporal modality (up to 365 consecutive days) must be contracted for longer trips. For insured persons over 70 years old traveling more than 90 days (365-day modality), the medical expense limit abroad is capped at 20,000 EUR. Accident coverage applies only to insured persons up to 70 years of age.
