Direct payment

As a liability policy, compensation under the traffic insurance is negotiated and paid directly to the injured third party rather than to the policyholder; ICA Försäkring is not bound by any admission of fault, acceptance of a claim, or payment made by the policyholder without its approval.

Geographic scope

Sweden

Valid in countries that are part of the Green Card system and during transport between them; worldwide under the Traffic Damage Act (Trafikskadelagen) for damage caused by a Swedish-registered vehicle to a Swedish citizen or resident. Cover lapses if the vehicle has been abroad more than 182 consecutive days.

Unique selling points

  • Policyholders earn ICA-bonus on the entire insurance cost, redeemable in ICA stores.
  • Bundling three or more ICA insurance policies earns an extra SEK 300 bonus per year, rising to SEK 500 for four or more policies.
  • Trafikolycksfall and crisis-therapy cover are included at no extra cost and with zero deductible for every policyholder.
  • All ICA Försäkring customers get free, anonymous crisis chat support via the BlueCall app.
  • Customers can get an instant online price quote for their car insurance in seconds.

SEK 300,000,000

Legal expenses cover (Rättsskydd)

Excluded

Legal expenses cover is not included in the standalone traffic insurance. It becomes available only from the half-insurance (halvförsäkring) tier and above; the traffic-only combination table lists Rättsskydd under Halv-/Hel-/Plusförsäkring, not under the standalone traffic insurance.

Green Card

Covered

The traffic insurance is valid in countries that are part of the Green Card system and during transport between them. Some countries require an international Green Card certificate as proof of insurance, which ICA Försäkring issues on request.

Roadside assistance / towing (Räddning)

Excluded

Räddningsförsäkring (towing/roadside assistance after a traffic accident, theft or breakdown) is not part of the standalone traffic insurance; it is included only from half-insurance (halvförsäkring) and above, per the combination table and section G5.

Driver accident cover (Trafikolycksfall)

SEK 600,000

Included at no extra cost with the traffic insurance, without deductible. Pays a lump sum of SEK 3,600 for hospitalisation of at least 72 hours, SEK 2,000 for sick leave of at least 7 days, SEK 20,000 to the estate on death within 12 months, and up to SEK 600,000 for permanent medical disability, plus up to 10 crisis-therapy sessions with a psychologist.

Passenger accident cover (Trafikolycksfall)

Trafikolycksfall och Krishjälp applies to personal injury sustained by anyone as a result of traffic with the insured vehicle, including passengers, not only the driver. Key conditions

Territorial scope

Valid in Green Card countries and during transport between them; the traffic insurance itself applies worldwide under the Traffic Damage Act for damage caused by a Swedish-registered vehicle to a Swedish citizen or resident. Cover for other parts of the policy lapses if the vehicle has been abroad more than 182 consecutive days.

Green card rules

ICA Försäkring issues an international Green Card certificate on request. Because some Green Card countries require the physical certificate as proof of insurance, policyholders should always contact ICA Försäkring before travelling outside the Nordic countries.

Driver restrictions

The driver must hold the driving licence and have the age required to drive the vehicle and must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medicine or other intoxicant. If the driver is under 24 and this was not reported to ICA Försäkring in advance, an extra deductible of SEK 2,000 applies. Driving without a valid licence, under the influence, or causing damage intentionally or through gross negligence triggers a special deductible of 10% of the price base amount (prisbasbelopp) under the traffic insurance.

Claim notification deadline

A claim must be reported to ICA Försäkring without delay. For damage occurring abroad, a police report must be filed in the country where the damage occurred as soon as possible, and at the latest before returning to Sweden.

Bonus-malus rules

ICA Försäkring's terms do not describe a claims-based bonus-malus discount scale. Premiums are instead calculated according to the company's own risk-based premium tariff (försäkringstariff), based on statistics and assumptions about the insured, rather than a no-claims bonus system.
