Länsförsäkringar AB
Länsförsäkringar
Länsförsäkringar is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Sweden market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
As a third-party liability product, trafikförsäkring compensates the injured third party or their damaged property directly under the Motor Traffic Damage Act; it does not reimburse the policyholder for damage to their own vehicle.
Geographic scope
Valid in all countries connected to the Green Card System and during transport between them; for Swedish-registered vehicles, claims involving a Swedish citizen or resident are covered worldwide, even outside Green Card System countries.
No territorial time-limit applies specifically to the traffic (liability) insurance module itself; the 182-day-outside-Sweden restriction stated in the terms applies only to the casco (kasko) modules, not to trafikförsäkring.
Unique selling points
- Customer-owned mutual insurer where profits are returned to policyholders rather than paid out as shareholder dividends.
- In-house alarm and claims centre (larmcentral) staffed every day of the year, plus a dedicated international line (Länsförsäkringar Skadejour) for incidents abroad.
- Traffic insurance for Swedish-registered vehicles covers claims worldwide for Swedish citizens or residents, even in countries outside the Green Card System.
- Operates through 23 independent regional companies, giving customers a local office rather than a single national call centre.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability (traffic injury compensation)
SEK 300,000,000
Compensates personal injury arising from traffic with the insured vehicle under the Motor Traffic Damage Act, up to a combined maximum of SEK 300 million per event; this ceiling is shared jointly with property damage liability, not a separate limit.
Property damage liability
SEK 300,000,000
Compensates damage caused to third-party property in traffic with the insured vehicle, up to a combined maximum of SEK 300 million per event shared with bodily injury liability. Damage to the insured vehicle itself, or to property being transported in it, is excluded.
Legal defence costs (liability claims)
Covered
If the policyholder is claimed against for damages and the claim proceeds to litigation, Länsförsäkringar pays reasonable legal costs; where legal representation is deemed necessary for a compensable personal-injury claim, reasonable counsel fees are paid up to the government's standard hourly-fee norm for legal aid. No fixed sum insured is stated.
Green Card / territorial cover
Covered
Trafikförsäkring is valid in all countries connected to the Green Card System and during transport between them; for Swedish-registered vehicles it additionally covers claims worldwide when a Swedish citizen or resident is injured, even outside Green Card System countries.
Roadside assistance and rescue cover
Excluded
Not part of the standalone trafikförsäkring. Assistans- och räddningsförsäkring is bundled only within Länsförsäkringar's kaskoförsäkring modules, available when trafikförsäkring is combined into a halv- or helförsäkring.
Driver personal injury (traffic injury)
Covered
Personal injury to the driver caused by traffic with the insured vehicle is compensated as part of the general traffic-injury liability cover under the Motor Traffic Damage Act, within the shared SEK 300 million per-event ceiling. There is no separate driver-accident sum insured.
Passenger personal injury (traffic injury)
Covered
Personal injury to passengers caused by traffic with the insured vehicle is compensated as part of the general traffic-injury liability cover under the Motor Traffic Damage Act, within the shared SEK 300 million per-event ceiling. There is no separate passenger-accident sum insured.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Valid in Green Card System countries and during transport between them; worldwide for Swedish-registered vehicles when a Swedish citizen or resident is injured.
Green card rules
Coverage follows the Green Card System list published by the Swedish Motor Insurers' Committee (Trafikförsäkringsföreningen, tff.se); claims outside these countries not covered by the Motor Traffic Damage Act are settled under the law of the country where the damage occurred.
Driver restrictions
An extra 'ungdomssjälvrisk' of SEK 1,000 applies for personbil/lätt lastbil/husbil/Entusiastbil claims when the driver is under 24 (waived if the policyholder was driving, or in animal-collision claims). A 10% of prisbasbelopp 'brottssjälvrisk' applies if the driver lacked a valid licence, was driving under the influence, or caused the damage with intent or gross negligence. A-traktor carries a fixed SEK 3,000 basic self-risk.
Claim notification deadline
Claims must be reported without delay ('utan dröjsmål'). The right to traffic-injury compensation lapses if legal action is not brought within ten years of the incident; if the claim was reported in time, the claimant always has six months after the insurer's final decision to bring action.
Bonus-malus rules
This trafikförsäkring does not use a bonus-malus claims-history discount scale in the current terms. The premium is instead based on the policyholder's registered domicile (folkbokföringsort), the vehicle's estimated annual mileage class (five bands from up to 10,000 km to over 25,000 km), the driver's age and driving licence, and the vehicle's make, type and model year.
