Trygg-Hansa Försäkring filial
Trygg-Hansa
Trygg-Hansa is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Sweden market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Trygg-Hansa decides whether compensation is paid as repair, cash compensation or replacement of equivalent property, and acts as the policyholder's agent toward the repairer (approving cost estimates etc.), while the policyholder remains the formal customer of the workshop so that consumer-service-act protections apply. Standard practice is direct settlement with authorised workshops for repairs; reimbursement to the policyholder is subject to verification of reasonable costs.
Geographic scope
Sweden
Valid in all countries connected to the Green Card system and during transport between them (see tff.se for the current list). If a Swedish citizen or a person resident in Sweden is injured in traffic with a Swedish-registered vehicle, the traffic insurance applies worldwide under the Traffic Damage Act, even in countries outside the Green Card system.
Unique selling points

Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability
SEK 300,000,000
Only in Trafikförsäkring
Mandatory traffic insurance compensates personal injuries to persons in and outside the insured vehicle under the Traffic Damage Act (trafikskadelagen). The SEK 300 million ceiling per incident is a single combined cap shared with property-damage claims under the traffic insurance, not a separate limit exclusively for bodily injury.
Property Damage Liability
SEK 300,000,000
Only in Trafikförsäkring
Covers damage to other people's vehicles and property in traffic caused by the insured vehicle's driver (if fault can be proven), up to the combined SEK 300 million per-incident cap shared with bodily-injury claims. Damage to the policyholder's own vehicle is excluded from the traffic insurance and is instead covered, if applicable, by half/comprehensive insurance (halv-/helförsäkring).
Legal Defence (traffic liability disputes)
Covered
Only in Trafikförsäkring
The traffic insurance itself includes Trygg-Hansa conducting the policyholder's defence when claimed against after a traffic accident or summoned to court, negotiating with claimants, and paying the policyholder's reasonable litigation costs and the compensation owed under the Traffic Damage Act. No monetary ceiling is stated for this built-in defence function.
Green Card / International Coverage
Covered
Only in Trafikförsäkring
The traffic insurance is valid in all countries connected to the Green Card system and during transport between them. For Swedish citizens or residents driving a Swedish-registered vehicle, coverage under the Traffic Damage Act extends worldwide, including countries outside the Green Card system.
Roadside Assistance / Towing
Optional
Only in Halvförsäkring, Helförsäkring
Towing/roadside assistance is not part of pure traffic insurance; it is included from Halvförsäkring level and above. It covers transport of the vehicle to the nearest workshop able to repair it after theft, damage or other breakdown, plus return travel costs for the driver/passengers.
Driver Personal Injury
Covered
Only in Trafikförsäkring
The driver is covered for personal injury sustained in traffic under the mandatory traffic insurance (trafikskadelagen), subject to the combined SEK 300 million per-incident cap. Compensation to the driver can be reduced if the driver was impaired by alcohol/drugs and contributed through negligence, or contributed through gross negligence or intent.
Passenger Personal Injury
Covered
Only in Trafikförsäkring
Passengers in the vehicle (and third parties outside it) are covered for personal injury under the mandatory traffic insurance (trafikskadelagen), within the combined SEK 300 million per-incident cap; passengers generally receive full compensation even where a driver or third party is at fault.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Valid in all Green Card countries and during transport between them; worldwide for Swedish citizens/residents driving a Swedish-registered vehicle under the Traffic Damage Act.
Green card rules
The current list of countries connected to the Green Card system is published by the Swedish Motor Insurers' Committee (Trafikförsäkringsföreningen) at tff.se; coverage automatically extends worldwide for Swedish citizens/residents in Swedish-registered vehicles even outside that list.
Driver restrictions
Extra deductibles apply for certain drivers/situations: a young-driver surcharge of SEK 2,000 for privately owned cars/light trucks driven by someone under 24 and not pre-notified to the insurer (5% of the price base amount for company-owned cars/light trucks); a crime-related deductible of 10% of the price base amount applies where the driver had no valid licence, was impaired by alcohol/other substances, or caused the accident intentionally or through gross negligence.
Claim notification deadline
Report to Trygg-Hansa immediately if claimed against after a traffic accident or summoned to court as a defendant; do not admit liability or agree to compensation amounts without instructions. Claims for traffic-injury compensation are time-barred 10 years after the accident, with an additional 6 months after Trygg-Hansa's final decision if a claim was made within that 10-year period.
Bonus-malus rules
A nine-class no-claims bonus system applies specifically to company-owned vehicles (Trafikbonus för företagsägt fordon). Class 9 requires 15 consecutive claim-free years, class 8 requires 10; new policies without prior bonus rights start at class 7. Each claim paid under the traffic insurance lowers the bonus by 3 classes from the next policy period (only 2 classes if the policyholder had 15+ claim-free years). The bonus is not lowered for reindeer/dog-only damage, theft, police inspection incidents, or where the policyholder proves sole fault of another party. No bonus-malus system is described for privately owned vehicles in these terms.
