Direct payment

The insurer pays out repair costs, or the replacement value less residual value in case of total loss, after deduction of any agreed deductible, once the necessary investigations to establish the claim have been completed.

Geographic scope

Europe (geographical sense) and Green Card signatory states

Coverage extends to Europe in the geographical sense, and in any case to the territory of the states that signed the Agreement between the national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states of 30 May 2002; the scope can be contractually extended.

Unique selling points

  • Policyholders can freely combine Teilkasko or Vollkasko with three protection levels (Top-, Standard-, Grundschutz) to tailor cover to their needs.
  • A no-claim rebate refunds 12% of the annual Kasko premium for policyholders who stay claim-free and drive under 7,000 km per year.
  • Special equipment and accessories worth up to €2,500 are automatically co-insured at no extra premium.
  • Six Superbonusstufen reward a claim-free driving history with progressively lower Kasko premiums.
  • The Kasko premium level stays unchanged for the whole contract term even after a claim, avoiding mid-term premium increases.

Coverage limits

Own Damage (Collision Casco)

Not established from the insurer's documents

Covered only under Collision Casco (Kollisionskaskoversicherung), i.e. when Vollkasko/comprehensive is selected: damage from an accident (sudden external event with mechanical force) and malicious acts by third parties. Not included under pure Teilkasko (Elementarkasko). Indemnity is repair cost or, in case of total loss, replacement value less residual value, with no stated monetary ceiling.

Total Loss

Not established from the insurer's documents

If the vehicle is destroyed, lost, or the expected restoration costs plus residual value exceed the replacement value, the insurer pays the replacement value (cost to acquire an equivalent vehicle of the same type, quality and wear condition) less the residual value. No fixed monetary cap stated.

Partial Loss / Repair Costs

Not established from the insurer's documents

If no total loss occurs, the insurer covers the restoration (repair) costs plus necessary simple freight/transport costs for spare parts, and necessary recovery and transport costs of the vehicle to the nearest suitable workshop. A new-for-old deduction applies to parts/paint after the vehicle's third year, except for PKW/Kombi/LKW up to 2 tonnes payload.

Theft and Robbery

Not established from the insurer's documents

Covered under Elementarkasko/Teilkasko: damage, destruction or loss of the vehicle through theft, robbery, or unauthorized use by persons outside the business/household. If stolen items are recovered more than one month after the claim was reported, they become the insurer's property; recovery costs up to 2% of the replacement value are reimbursed without deduction of the deductible.

Glass Damage

Not established from the insurer's documents

For passenger cars, estate cars and trucks up to 2 tonnes payload, breakage damage to windscreen, side and rear windows and glass/panoramic roofs is covered regardless of cause under Collision Casco; under pure Elementarkasko (Teilkasko) it is only covered by special agreement.

Natural Perils

Not established from the insurer's documents

Elementarkasko (Teilkasko) covers direct impact of lightning, rockfall, landslide, mudslide, avalanche, hail, high water, flooding and storm (wind of more than 60 km/h), including damage from objects thrown onto or against the vehicle by these forces.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The AKKB does not state any minimum driver age or experience requirement for Kasko cover to apply; a discount programme exists for young drivers under 22 (L17-Vorteil) on the overall GRAWE AUTOMOBIL package, but this is not a coverage eligibility limit within the Kasko conditions themselves.

Repair network requirements

There is no obligation to use a specific workshop; the policyholder must obtain the insurer's consent before starting repairs or disposing of the damaged vehicle, where reasonably possible. GRAWE additionally offers partner repair workshops as a supplementary service for Kasko policyholders.

Territorial scope

Cover applies to Europe in the geographical sense and, in any case, the territory of states that signed the 30 May 2002 Agreement between EEA national insurance bureaus and associated states; the scope can be contractually extended.

Anti-theft requirements

The AKKB does not specify any mandatory anti-theft device or alarm system as a precondition for theft cover.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify the insurer in writing of the claim, with exact details, within one week of becoming aware of it, and immediately report theft, robbery, unauthorized use, fire, explosion or wildlife damage to the nearest police station.

Deductible rules

A deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) applies per vehicle and per claim in the agreed amount; policyholders may choose between a restricted deductible (applying only to specific perils) and a general deductible (applying to all claims), with amounts ranging from €0 to €500 depending on the product and coverage type.
