MuKi Mutual Insurance Association (MuKi Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit)
muki
muki is a motor casco insurance for the Austria market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Compensation for partial damage is paid only once the vehicle has been properly repaired; there is no entitlement to a cash settlement in lieu of repair, except when the damaged vehicle is sold, in which case reimbursement is limited to the objective diminution in value. For total loss, the insurer pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less deductible and any salvage/wreck value.
Geographic scope
Nationwide (Austria)
Coverage extends, unless otherwise agreed, to Europe in the geographical sense, and in any case to the territory of the states that signed the 30 May 2002 agreement between the national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states (Green Card Agreement); Mediterranean countries bordering the sea are also included.
Unique selling points
- Premium guarantee – no downgrade in premium class after a claim, unlike standard bonus/malus practice.
- Windscreen replacement at Carglass® Austria cuts the deductible by €200 (or €100 at any workshop), on top of the Fifty-Fifty package.
- No increased deductible for L17 driving-school trips or supervised practice drives.
- Free choice of repair workshop with prompt claims handling 'at the workshop of your trust'.
- Special equipment covered premium-free up to €2,500 (Pkw/Kombi/Lkw ≤1.5t, motorhomes ≤3.5t private use).
Coverage limits
Own damage / collision cover (Kollisionskasko)
Conditional
Only in Vollkasko, Standard, Premium
Covers sudden damage to the vehicle caused by an accident, i.e. a sudden external event acting on the vehicle with mechanical force (collision), regardless of fault. Braking damage, operational damage (e.g. tyre wear) and pure breakage damage, as well as consequential damage, are not covered. This benefit is only part of comprehensive cover (Vollkasko/AKKB) and is not included in partial cover (Teilkasko/ATKB).
Total loss settlement
Covered
Only in Vollkasko, Teilkasko
If the vehicle is destroyed, lost and not recovered within one month, or if repair costs plus residual value exceed the replacement value (economic total loss), the insurer pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) for an equivalent vehicle in the same condition, less any agreed deductible and less any wreck/residual value. Recovery costs incurred if the vehicle is found within one month are reimbursed up to 2% of the replacement value without deduction of the deductible.
Partial loss settlement
Covered
Only in Vollkasko, Teilkasko
Covers the cost of repair plus simple freight/transport costs for spare parts, and the necessary recovery and towing costs to the nearest suitable workshop (up to €2,000 per event, of which €200 for towing costs; subsidiary to any other existing cover). Compensation for repairs is paid only once the vehicle has been properly repaired. Betterment, wear-repairs, diminished value, loss of use and cost of a replacement vehicle are excluded.
Theft, robbery and unauthorised use
Covered
Covers total theft, theft of parts, robbery and unauthorised use by persons outside the company/household; a police report confirmation must be attached to the claim notification. Personal items stolen from the locked vehicle by forced entry are covered up to €1,000 per event (of which max. €500 for electronic/technical devices), excluding cash over €150, bank/credit cards, vehicle documents, vouchers, valuables, jewellery, watches, securities and keys; this sub-limit can be increased to €2,500 (uncapped for electronics within that sum) with the optional Fifty-Fifty/Bonus package. Coverage details (e.g. deductible amounts and sub-limits) vary between the Standard and Premium Kasko tariffs, as shown in muki's KDÜ coverage-overview table.
Glass breakage cover
Covered
For cars, estate cars and trucks up to 1 tonne payload, breakage damage to windscreen, side and rear windows, and panoramic glass/sliding sunroof is covered regardless of cause, as are headlights, taillights, fog lights, indicator lenses and exterior mirrors (incl. housing). Costs for toll stickers/vignettes are excluded. An agreed deductible does not apply if the glass is repaired without replacement. With the optional Fifty-Fifty/Bonus package, the deductible for windscreen replacement is reduced by €100 (any workshop) or €200 (Carglass®), and headlight/small-glass breakage up to €500 is covered without deductible. Coverage details vary between the Standard and Premium Kasko tariffs, as shown in muki's KDÜ coverage-overview table.
Natural hazards cover
Covered
Covers direct impact of lightning, rockfall, landslide, avalanches, snow pressure, hail, mudslides, high water, flooding, and storm (wind over 60 km/h), including damage from objects thrown onto/against the vehicle by these forces (but not damage due to driver behaviour caused by these forces). Also covers roof avalanches (snow falling from buildings) and falling icicles/ice formations. Coverage details vary between the Standard and Premium Kasko tariffs, as shown in muki's KDÜ coverage-overview table.
Vandalism cover
Covered
Covers malicious or wanton acts committed by persons outside the company/household (vandalism); a police report confirmation must be attached to the claim notification. Coverage details vary between the Standard and Premium Kasko tariffs, as shown in muki's KDÜ coverage-overview table.
Recovery and towing cost cover
€2,000
Only in Vollkasko, Teilkasko
Covers the necessary costs of recovering and transporting the vehicle to the nearest workshop capable of carrying out the repair, up to €2,000 per event, of which €200 is earmarked for towing costs; this cover is subsidiary to any other existing insurance cover for these costs. This is a cost-reimbursement benefit within the Kasko policy, distinct from muki's separately marketed 24h emergency-assistance service (muki 24h-Nothilfe, ASK conditions, optional add-on).
Replacement vehicle / loss of use
Excluded
Loss of use and the cost of a replacement vehicle (Ersatzwagen) are explicitly excluded from the Kasko settlement. A rental car during vehicle downtime may only be available through muki's separate, optionally purchased 24h emergency-assistance service (ASK), which is not part of the standard Kasko benefits described in the AKKB/ATKB.
Driver accident cover
Excluded
Personal injury to the driver/occupants is not covered under the Kasko (AKKB/ATKB) terms; muki offers this separately as a distinct product, the Kfz-Insassenunfallversicherung, which can be combined with the Kasko policy but is not part of it.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
Drivers under 23 years of age who cause a self-inflicted, indemnifiable accident face an additional surcharge of €500 on top of the contractually agreed deductible under comprehensive cover (Vollkasko); this does not apply to L17 driving-school trips or approved L-practice drives, and does not apply to trucks/motorhomes used commercially (clause KS2 2018). The driver must pay this amount directly to the settling body.
Repair network requirements
There is no obligation to use a specific repair-shop network; the policyholder may generally choose the workshop, and muki markets prompt claims handling 'at the workshop of your choice'. However, the insurer is entitled to give instructions on selecting a suitable repair workshop, and before starting repairs or otherwise disposing of the damaged vehicle, the policyholder must obtain the insurer's consent where reasonably possible. Reduced deductibles for glass replacement apply specifically when using Carglass® Austria.
Territorial scope
Cover extends, unless otherwise agreed, to Europe in the geographical sense and in any case to the territories of the states that signed the 30 May 2002 Green Card Agreement between the national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states, including Mediterranean countries. Cover is not interrupted during sea transport if loading points are within scope; it ends once loading is completed if the destination is outside scope.
Anti-theft requirements
The AKKB/ATKB terms do not specify a mandatory anti-theft device as a precondition for theft cover. For claims involving theft, robbery, unauthorised use, or vandalism, the policyholder must report the incident to the nearest police station without delay, on the day of becoming aware of it, and attach the police report confirmation to the claim notification.
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must contribute to establishing the facts and, within one week at the latest of becoming aware, notify the insurer in writing of the claim and of any related administrative or court proceedings. For losses caused by fire/explosion, theft, robbery, unauthorised use, animals, vandalism, or unknown-vehicle collision while parked, a police report must additionally be filed without delay (on the day of becoming aware) and its confirmation attached to the claim notification.
Deductible rules
A deductible applies per vehicle and per claim in the amount agreed and stated in the policy's coverage summary. If stolen/robbed items on which the insurer had acquired ownership are recovered and sold, the deductible taken into account in the settlement is refunded up to the sale proceeds achieved. An increased deductible of €1,800 applies during initial underwriting until an inspection report is received for vehicles older than six months (clause KESB 2024), and a €500 surcharge applies for at-fault claims caused by drivers under 23 (clause KS2 2018). The Fifty-Fifty/Bonus package (only available with a €320 or €480 deductible) reduces the deductible by 50% for Carglass® windscreen replacement and spot-repair.
