Online purchase

Direct payment

VAV offers direct billing with the insurer when repairs are carried out through its partner repair networks (e.g. MO'Drive, GOODONE Schadenmeister); repairs outside these networks are reimbursed against submitted invoices after prior approval from VAV.

Geographic scope

Europe in the geographical sense, including all states party to the Green Card Agreement of 30 May 2002

Cover extends to Europe in the geographical sense and at least to the territory of all states that signed the agreement between the national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states of 30 May 2002 (list includes Austria, Germany, all EU states, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Andorra, etc.). If the vehicle is transported by sea, cover is not interrupted provided the loading point is within the territorial scope.

Unique selling points

  • Gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit) is automatically covered in Casco deductible variants at no extra premium, unlike insurers that charge separately for this.
  • Free pre-damage inspection at any ÖAMTC location for vehicles older than 13 months, avoiding disputes over pre-existing damage.
  • Access to VAV's MO'Drive partner repair network with over 40 locations, including Tesla Approved Body Shops, offering direct billing and a reduced deductible.
  • Optional new-value compensation extends total-loss payouts up to the original purchase (new) value for up to 48 months after buying the vehicle.
  • No deductible applies for windscreen repair (as opposed to replacement), including free stone-chip repair via the Carglass partnership.

Coverage limits

Own vehicle damage (Comprehensive)

Not established from the insurer's documents

Covers damage, destruction and loss of the insured vehicle and its parts/accessories. Vollkasko additionally covers collisions (sudden, external, mechanical impact) and vandalism, on top of the Teilkasko perils (fire, theft, natural perils, glass breakage, animal bites, short-circuit damage, etc.). No fixed sum insured; indemnity is based on replacement or repair value.

Total loss benefit

Not established from the insurer's documents

In case of total loss (destruction, unrecovered total theft, or economic total loss where repair cost plus residual value exceeds replacement value), VAV pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) of an equivalent vehicle in the same condition, less any residual/wreck value. Recovery costs are covered up to EUR 2,000 per claim, including EUR 200 for towing costs.

Partial damage / repair costs

Not established from the insurer's documents

Where there is no total loss, VAV pays the cost of restoration/repair plus necessary transport costs for spare parts and recovery/towage to the nearest suitable repair workshop, less any agreed deductible.

Theft, robbery and unauthorized use

Not established from the insurer's documents

Covers theft, robbery or unauthorized use of the vehicle by persons outside the household/business; also covers items of personal use stolen from the locked vehicle during a break-in (up to EUR 1,000 per claim, excluding cash and electronic devices), and replacement of stolen documents/keys/plates up to EUR 250 per claim.

Driver/occupant personal accident benefit

Not established from the insurer's documents

The reviewed Casco documents (IPID, AKKB, coverage overview) do not include any personal injury/accident benefit for the driver or occupants; Casco covers only damage to the vehicle itself, not bodily injury.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

No specific minimum driver age or experience limit is stated in the reviewed documents; the driver must in any case hold the valid driving licence required for the vehicle class, even off public roads.

Repair network requirements

There is no mandatory repair workshop network; however, the policyholder must obtain VAV's consent before starting repairs or disposing of the damaged vehicle, where reasonably possible. Using VAV's preferred partner network (MO'Drive, including Tesla Approved Body Shops, and GOODONE Schadenmeister) provides direct billing and can reduce the deductible.

Territorial scope

Cover applies in Europe in the geographical sense and in all states that signed the 30 May 2002 Green Card agreement between national insurance bureaus of the EEA and associated states.

Anti-theft requirements

The reviewed documents do not specify mandatory anti-theft device requirements as a condition of cover.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must generally be reported to VAV without delay, at the latest within one week of becoming aware of the event. Theft, robbery, unauthorized use, fire/explosion, animal collisions, parking damage and vandalism must additionally be reported to the nearest police station on the day the policyholder becomes aware of the event, with the confirmation of the report attached to the claim notification.

Deductible rules

A deductible applies per vehicle and per claim as agreed in the policy; it is waived for windscreen repair (not replacement). If the policyholder uses the tariff's user discount and the vehicle is driven, at the time of the claim, by someone other than the policyholder or their spouse/partner, the agreed deductible increases by EUR 250 per claim.
