Wiener Städtische
Wiener Städtische is a motor casco insurance for the AT market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
For partial losses (Teilschaden), the insurer pays repair costs directly; no advance payment by the customer is required. In total loss cases, the insurer pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) at the time of the loss minus the agreed deductible.
Geographic scope
Europe
Monaco, Griechenland, Großbritannien, Irland, Island, Italien, Kroatien, Lettland, Litauen, Luxemburg, Malta, Montenegro, Niederlande, Norwegen, Österreich, Polen, Portugal, Rumänien, Schweden, Schweiz inkl. Liechtenstein, Serbien, Slowakei, Slowenien, Spanien, Tschechien, Ungarn, Zypern)
Unique selling points
- Exclusive purchase price replacement (Kaufpreisersatzdeckung) available only in Vollkasko: in total loss or theft, the insurer pays the original purchase price rather than the depreciated replacement value.
- No 'new for old' deduction on spare parts and paintwork for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 1.5 t payload, ensuring full repair cost coverage without age-related reductions.
- Animal bite damage (Tierverbiss) to cables, hoses, and insulation mats including consequential damage is explicitly covered – a peril frequently excluded or limited by other insurers.
- GAP coverage (Leasing-Restwert-Schutz) is available as an add-on to bridge the gap between the replacement value payout and the outstanding lease/loan balance, protecting leasing customers from residual financial exposure.
- 24/7 claims service hotline (+43 (0)50 350 355) available for domestic and international loss events, with direct payment to repair workshops so customers do not need to advance repair costs.
Coverage limits
Own damage (accident)
Covered
Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused by an accident (an event acting suddenly and with mechanical force from outside). Brake damage, operational damage, and pure breakage damage are not covered. The insurer pays repair costs for partial damage or the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) for total loss, minus any agreed deductible. No 'new for old' deduction applies for passenger cars and light trucks up to 1.5 t payload.
SourceTotal loss settlement
Covered
Total loss occurs when the vehicle is destroyed or lost, or when estimated repair costs plus residual value exceed the replacement value. The insurer pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) – i.e. the amount necessary to acquire a vehicle of the same type, quality, and wear condition at the time of the loss – minus the agreed deductible and salvage value. An optional purchase price replacement (Kaufpreisersatzdeckung) add-on is available to bridge the gap between replacement value and original purchase price.
SourcePartial loss (repair costs)
Covered
Where total loss conditions are not met, the insurer pays the costs of reinstatement and necessary freight/transport costs for spare parts, as well as necessary salvage and towing costs to the nearest suitable workshop. No 'new for old' deduction applies for passenger cars and light trucks up to 1.5 t payload. Improvements, wear repairs, loss in value, loss of use, and rental car costs are not covered.
SourceTheft, robbery, and unauthorized use
Covered
Covers loss or damage caused by theft, robbery, or unauthorized use by third parties (betriebsfremde Personen). If stolen items are returned after one month, they become the property of the insurer. If the vehicle is found, actual retrieval costs are reimbursed up to a maximum of 2% of the replacement value without deductible deduction.
SourceGlass breakage
Covered
Covers breakage damage regardless of cause to windscreen (front), side and rear windows, and panoramic glass roof. Small glass breakage (headlight lenses, indicator lenses, wing mirror glass) is covered via optional add-on packages (Light or Luxus).
SourceNatural perils
Covered
Covers damage caused by direct and indirect lightning strike (including batteries/accumulators of EVs when connected to an external power source), rockfall, landslide, avalanche, snow pressure, hail, flooding, storm (wind speed above 60 km/h), and roof avalanches (snow masses falling from buildings) and icicles/ice formations falling from buildings. Also covers damage caused by objects thrown against the vehicle by these natural forces. Excluded are damages caused by driver behaviour induced by such natural forces.
SourceVandalism and malicious damage
Covered
Covers damage caused by wilful or malicious acts of third parties (betriebsfremde Personen), including scratches, dents, and other intentional damage. Also includes parking damage (collision of a parked or stationary vehicle with an unknown vehicle). This peril is a key distinguishing feature of comprehensive (Vollkasko) vs. partial (Teilkasko) coverage.
SourceRoadside assistance / breakdown service
Excluded
Roadside assistance (Pannenhilfe) is not included in the Vollkasko policy 1024A itself. It is available as a component of the Kfz-Haftpflicht insurance (at the 20 or 30 million coverage level) or as a separate add-on. The Vollkasko does cover necessary towing/recovery costs to the nearest suitable workshop following a covered claim event.
SourceReplacement vehicle / rental car costs
Excluded
Rental car and replacement vehicle costs are explicitly excluded from the standard Vollkasko coverage per AVB 1024A Article 5 point 2.2 and 8. A rental car in case of vehicle theft is available as part of the optional 'Luxus' add-on package.
SourceDriver personal accident insurance
Excluded
Personal accident cover for the driver (bodily injury/death) is not included in the Vollkasko policy 1024A. A separate Kfz-Insassenunfallversicherung (vehicle occupant accident insurance) is available as an optional add-on covering bodily injury to occupants regardless of fault.
SourceKey conditions
driver_age_experience_limit
No explicit minimum driver age or experience requirement is specified in the AVB 1024A or the IPID. The driver must hold the legally required driving licence for operating the vehicle on public roads at all times (Article 7 para. 2.1). Coverage may be restricted or subject to surcharge based on individual underwriting criteria agreed at policy inception.
repair_network_requirements
No mandatory repair network requirement is stipulated in AVB 1024A. However, prior to commencing repairs the insured must obtain the insurer's consent (Article 7 para. 3.3), to the extent reasonably required. For second-hand vehicles older than 2 years, an inspection at an EXPERTA Drive-In station may be required before coverage takes effect without elevated deductible.
territorial_scope
Coverage applies throughout Europe in the geographical sense, and specifically to all states that have signed the agreement between the national insurance bureaus of EEA member states and other associated states of 30 May 2002 (as listed in the Annex to AVB 1024A). When the vehicle is transported by water, coverage continues if both loading and destination are within the territorial scope; coverage ends upon completion of loading if the destination is outside the scope.
anti_theft_requirements
No specific anti-theft device requirements are stated in the AVB 1024A. Covered items must be stored in the locked vehicle or attached to it. The insured must notify the nearest police station immediately in cases of theft, robbery, unauthorized use, malicious damage, or parking damage (Article 7 para. 3.4).
claim_notification_deadline
The insured must notify the insurer of the loss event within at most one week of becoming aware of it, providing a precise description of the facts and any related administrative or judicial proceedings (Article 7 para. 3.1). For theft, robbery, unauthorized use, malicious damage, fire, explosion, animal collision, and parking damage, the nearest police station must be notified immediately (Article 7 para. 3.4). Repairs may not commence without insurer consent (Article 7 para. 3.3).
deductible_rules
A deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) applies per vehicle per claim event in the agreed amount. The customer chooses the deductible level at contract inception; available options are EUR 400, EUR 750, or EUR 1,000. For second-hand vehicles without prior inspection, a minimum deductible of EUR 1,000 applies until an EXPERTA Drive-In inspection is completed. The deductible is deducted from each claims payment (Article 8). If stolen items are returned after the insurer has acquired title, the deductible amount is refunded up to the proceeds achieved.
