Wüstenrot Versicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft
Wüstenrot
Wüstenrot is a motor casco insurance for the Austria market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Wüstenrot's MO'Drive repair-partner network handles approved casco claims cashlessly end to end (pick-up/drop-off, repair with original parts, cleaning and a free replacement vehicle for the repair duration), and a €100 deductible reduction applies automatically once net repair costs exceed €600; for claims outside this network, prior approval from the insurer is required before repairs begin and reimbursement follows submission of the repair invoice.
Geographic scope
Austria (nationwide)
Covers insured events occurring in Europe in the geographical sense (at least the countries covered by the Green Card multilateral agreement of 30 May 2002); Iceland, Greenland, Svalbard, the Canary Islands, Madeira, Cyprus, the Azores and the Asian part of Turkey are excluded unless otherwise agreed.
Unique selling points
- Extendable new-value compensation: 100% of the purchase price is paid on total loss for up to four years after first registration, well beyond the single-year new-value cover typical in the market.
- Exclusive MO'Drive care-free repair service: free pick-up/drop-off, a free replacement vehicle for the whole repair duration, and a €100 deductible reduction, marketed as unique in the Austrian market.
- Special equipment is co-insured premium-free up to €3,000, higher than the €2,500 level of the previous tariff generation.
- One contract can cover up to 3 registered vehicles plus 10 non-registrable vehicles (e-bikes, scooters, bicycles, wheelchairs), with 24/7 Mobilitäts-Assistance Premium included as standard rather than as a paid add-on.
- GAP cover for leased vehicles and a free SMS severe-weather warning service are bundled in, benefits competitors often only offer as separate paid products.
Coverage limits
Own damage from collision / self-caused accidents
Conditional
Only in Vollkasko
Damage to the insured vehicle from an accident (a sudden externally-acting mechanical event), regardless of who caused it, is covered only under the Vollkasko (fully comprehensive) variant; Teilkasko does not cover collision/accident damage, braking, operational or pure breakage damage.
Total loss / theft not recovered
Covered
If the vehicle is destroyed, or stolen/robbed and not recovered within one month, or if repair costs plus residual value exceed the replacement value, the insurer pays the replacement value (what an equivalent vehicle of the same type and condition would cost) less the residual value; an enhanced new-value scale applies within 48 months of first registration (100% of list/purchase price for months 1-6, tapering to 60% for months 37-48 per the 2015 conditions, superseded for the current Mobilitäts-Kasko by a 100% new-value benefit for months 1-24 tapering to 60% for months 37-48, extendable to a full 100% for all 48 months as an optional enhancement).
Partial damage / repair costs
Covered
Where no total loss occurs, the insurer pays the cost of restoration and necessary freight/transport of spare parts plus recovery and towing to the nearest suitable workshop, for whichever perils are covered under the chosen variant (Vollkasko: all named perils plus accident/vandalism/parking damage/glass; Teilkasko: named perils only, e.g. fire, theft, natural hazards, animal collision).
Theft, embezzlement, robbery, unauthorised use
Covered
Covers destruction, damage or loss of the vehicle through theft, embezzlement, robbery or unauthorised use by persons outside the household/business, without deductible, in both Vollkasko and Teilkasko; theft must be reported to the nearest police station without delay.
Glass breakage
Conditional
Breakage of windscreen, side and rear windows and other glazing (plus headlights, indicators, tail-lights under the 2015 conditions) is covered for registered vehicles under both Vollkasko and Teilkasko, with a fixed deductible of €300 per claim under the 2015 Vollkasko conditions; the deductible is waived for a windscreen repair (instead of replacement) costing up to €400, or when the breakage is caused by an otherwise deductible-free insured peril. Glass breakage is not covered for non-registrable vehicles (e-bikes, scooters, etc.).
Natural hazards
Covered
Covers, without deductible, damage from lightning, rockfall, falling stones, landslide, mudslide, avalanche, snow pressure, hail, high water, flooding and storm (wind of more than 60 km/h), as well as roof avalanches and falling icicles, and collision with game or domestic animals; included in both Vollkasko and Teilkasko and for both registered and non-registrable vehicles.
Vandalism and parking damage
Conditional
Malicious damage by third parties (vandalism) and collision with an unidentified vehicle while parked/stationary (parking damage) are included as standard in Vollkasko (subject to the agreed deductible). Under Teilkasko for registered vehicles these perils are not included by default and must be purchased as a separately priced add-on (e.g. at deductible levels of €350 or €550 in the 2023 tariff); for non-registrable vehicles under Teilkasko, vandalism/parking damage is not available at all.
24/7 roadside assistance
Covered
The Mobilitäts-Assistance Premium package is included as standard in the Mobilitäts-Kasko (both Vollkasko and Teilkasko, for registered and non-registrable vehicles): 24/7 telephone helpline, on-site repair, towing to the nearest workshop, taxi up to €70, plus (Premium) a rental car/substitute means of transport for up to 5 days, hotel costs up to 5 nights, and organisation of the return/onward journey; vehicle-specific extras include collection/return of the repaired vehicle and repatriation from abroad; PKW customers additionally get SmartRepair cost cover up to €200 for breakdown repairs (e.g. ignition coil, knock sensor, tyre replacement).
Replacement vehicle
Covered
As part of the standard assistance benefit, a rental car or substitute means of transport is provided for up to 5 days without deductible. In addition, MO'Drive casco customers with an accepted claim who use the MO'Drive repair-partner network receive a free replacement vehicle for the entire duration of the repair. Under the legacy 2015 conditions, costs of a comparable rental vehicle are alternatively reimbursed up to €40/day, capped at €240 per insurance year, without deductible.
Driver/passenger personal accident cover
Excluded
Personal accident cover for the driver and passengers is not part of the Kasko (own-damage) product; Wüstenrot offers it as a separate, optionally purchasable product, the Mobilitäts-Unfallvorsorge, which protects against the financial consequences of an accident for the driver and passengers.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
No minimum driver age or experience threshold is stated for the casco product; Wüstenrot explicitly markets that all bonus/malus advantages also apply to young and newly licensed drivers, with premium instead reflecting the individual bonus-malus stage.
Repair network requirements
There is no obligation to use a particular repair shop, but before any repair work begins the policyholder must obtain the insurer's consent; using the MO'Drive partner-workshop network (for two-axle vehicles under 7.5 tonnes) unlocks a cashless, fully organised repair with pick-up/drop-off, original parts and a €100 deductible reduction on net repair costs over €600.
Territorial scope
Cover applies in Europe in the geographical sense, at minimum the countries covered by the Green Card multilateral agreement; Iceland, Greenland, Svalbard, the Canary Islands, Madeira, Cyprus, the Azores and Asian Turkey are excluded, and if the linked Kfz-Haftpflicht policy is extended with a chargeable large Green Card for non-European countries, that extension also applies to the casco cover for the same period.
Anti-theft requirements
No specific anti-theft device (alarm, immobiliser, tracker) is mandated in the available conditions or IPIDs; however, in the event of theft, embezzlement, robbery or unauthorised use, the incident must be reported to the nearest police station without delay, and theft of parts of a non-registrable vehicle is excluded (except saddle, child seat and battery).
Claim notification deadline
The insured event, and any related administrative or court proceedings, must be reported to the insurer in writing within one week with as precise a description of the facts as possible; policyholders must also cooperate in establishing the facts of the case.
Deductible rules
The policyholder chooses a deductible per claim of €350, €550 or €1,100 for registered motor vehicles, or €150 for non-registrable vehicles; a higher deductible lowers the premium. A fixed €300 glass-breakage deductible applies under the 2015 Vollkasko conditions (waived for windscreen repair up to €400 or when caused by a deductible-free peril), a fixed €150 deductible applies to bodywork repairs using alternative repair methods, and MO'Drive repairs reduce the applicable deductible by €100 once net repair cost exceeds €600. If a used vehicle's pre-existing-damage report is not submitted within 10 days of policy start, a €1,000 deductible per claim is set automatically until the report is filed.
