Online purchase

Direct payment

Policyholders can choose between a cash settlement after an inspection (Zurich assesses the damage and makes an offer) or cashless repair arranged directly with Zurich's partner workshops (Smart & Easy Repair / Carglass), which also unlocks deductible reductions and a loan vehicle.

Geographic scope

Europe in the geographical sense, plus Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey (entire country)

Cover extends to all states that signed the Green Card agreement between national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states (30 May 2002), including Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, UK, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czechia, Hungary, Cyprus, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Morocco, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Russia (European part), San Marino, Turkey (entire), Tunisia, Ukraine, Vatican City and Belarus.

Unique selling points

  • Smart & Easy Repair arranges partner-workshop repairs and gives a EUR 100 deductible reduction plus a free loan car.
  • Glass damage handled via Carglass® partner gives a EUR 150 deductible reduction on replacement and no deductible for repair-only.
  • Casco cover has no bonus-malus system, so the premium does not rise after a casco claim.
  • Gross negligence protection can be added for just a 3% premium surcharge.
  • New vehicles benefit from an enhanced total-loss settlement above the standard replacement-value payout.

Coverage limits

Own damage from self-caused accidents (collision)

Conditional

Only in Vollkasko

Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused suddenly and directly by mechanical force from outside (Unfall), including self-caused collisions. This peril is only included in the Vollkasko (comprehensive) tier; it is not part of the Teilkasko (partial) tier. Settlement follows the same total-loss/partial-loss rules as other casco perils (replacement value less residual value for total loss, repair cost otherwise).

Source

Total loss compensation

Covered

In case of total loss (vehicle destroyed/lost, or estimated repair cost plus residual value exceeds replacement value), Zurich pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) for an equivalent vehicle of the same type and condition at the time of the loss, minus any agreed deductible. If repair cost does not exceed 85% of the replacement value, repair may still be requested instead.

Partial loss / repair cost coverage

Covered

If no total loss occurs, Zurich pays the cost of restoration plus necessary freight/transport costs for replacement parts, and the necessary costs of recovery and transport of the vehicle to the nearest suitable workshop. Value depreciation, cosmetic loss, loss of use or cost of a replacement car are not reimbursed.

Theft, embezzlement and robbery

Covered

Covers damage, destruction and loss of the vehicle through theft, embezzlement, robbery or unauthorized use by third parties. If the vehicle is recovered, actual recovery costs up to 2% of the replacement value are reimbursed without deduction of any agreed deductible. Items not recovered within one month of the claim notification become the insurer's property.

Glass breakage

Covered

Covers breakage, irrespective of cause, of windscreen, side and rear windows and glass roofs, as well as headlights, indicator lenses, tail lights and exterior mirrors on multi-track vehicles. Zurich's Carglass partner offers a EUR 150 deductible reduction on glass replacement and no deductible for glass repair only.

Natural hazards

Covered

Covers direct impact of lightning, rockfall/landslide, avalanches, snow pressure, roof avalanches, falling icicles, hail, high water, flooding, mudslides and storm (wind over 60 km/h). Damage caused by objects being thrown onto or against the vehicle by these forces is included; damage from the driver's own conduct triggered by these forces is excluded.

Vandalism by third parties

Covered

Covers damage caused by malicious or spiteful acts of persons unconnected with the operation of the vehicle. Self-caused vandalism-like damage (own reckless acts) is only covered under the Vollkasko tier together with the accident (Unfall) peril.

Recovery / towing to nearest workshop

€750

Zurich covers the necessary costs of transporting the damaged vehicle to the nearest workshop up to EUR 750. This benefit applies only insofar as reimbursement cannot be claimed under another contract (insurance, service or assistance contract) covering the same vehicle (agreed subsidiarity).

Replacement vehicle / loss of use

Excluded

The general casco terms explicitly exclude reimbursement of loss of use or the cost of a replacement car. However, as a service benefit (not a cash entitlement), policyholders using the Smart & Easy Repair partner-workshop service receive a free loan vehicle (only fuel costs payable) and save EUR 100 on the deductible.

Driver accident cover

No limit stated

Personal accident cover for the driver is not part of the casco conditions; it is sold as a separate product (Kfz-Insassenunfallversicherung).

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

No specific minimum age or driving experience is stated for casco cover; the driver must in all cases hold the vehicle license/authorization required for driving on public roads (this also applies when the vehicle is not driven on public roads).

Repair network requirements

Before starting repairs or otherwise disposing of the damaged vehicle, the policyholder must obtain Zurich's consent where reasonably possible. There is no obligation to use a specific workshop, but using the Smart & Easy Repair partner-workshop network (or Carglass for glass damage) unlocks deductible reductions and a loan vehicle.

Territorial scope

Cover applies throughout Europe in the geographical sense, including all states covered by the Green Card agreement of 30 May 2002, plus Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey (entire country). Cover is not interrupted during sea transport if loading occurs within the territorial scope.

Anti-theft requirements

The provided terms and conditions do not specify mandatory anti-theft devices (e.g. alarm system, immobilizer) as a precondition for theft cover; general contractual duties (e.g. compliance with agreed vehicle use) apply.

Claim notification deadline

The claim, along with details of the circumstances and any administrative or court proceedings, must be reported to Zurich in writing within one week. Claims from theft, embezzlement, robbery, unauthorized use, fire, explosion, park damage, vandalism, burglary or animal-caused damage must be reported to the nearest police station without delay.

Deductible rules

Policyholders choose a deductible per vehicle and claim, typically among EUR 290, 350, 550, 750 or 1,000, subject to a minimum proportional deductible of 5% of the damage. The deductible can be applied to all claims, or selectively only to accident/park damage and vandalism claims. If a stolen vehicle is recovered, any deductible already applied is refunded up to the sale proceeds obtained.
