Belfius Insurance SA/NV
Belfius
Belfius is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Belgium market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
For legal protection claims, Belfius Insurance pays lawyer, expert and bailiff fees directly without the insured having to advance the amount. For windscreen repairs carried out by Autoglass Clinic or Carglass, a 'third-party payer' system applies so the insured does not pay upfront.
Geographic scope
Belgium
Liability, legal defence and driver cover apply in all countries named on the international motor insurance certificate (green card) that are not expressly crossed out; the Omnium guarantee applies worldwide.
Unique selling points
- Includes a 'BOB' guarantee as standard, covering vehicle damage and bodily injury of a designated sober driver who is at fault after an owner was unfit to drive due to alcohol or similar intoxication.
- Offers a '58+ Assuré à vie' guarantee: policyholders aged 58+ with at least 5 years of claims-free history are guaranteed the insurer will never cancel their liability cover (barring fraud, hit-and-run or loss of fitness to drive).
- The bonus-malus scale extends beyond the usual Bonus 10 down to Super-bonus 5, rewarding long-term claims-free drivers with a premium as low as 50% of the base rate.
- Windscreen repairs via the approved Autoglass Clinic / Carglass network are settled directly with the repairer under a third-party-payer system, with no upfront payment or prior formalities required from the insured.
- Claims can be reported online in real time via the Belfius Mobile app or Belfius Direct Net, with pre-filled personal data, direct garage selection and step-by-step status tracking, alongside a 24/7 telephone assistance centre.

Green card / international insurance certificate
Covered
The insurer issues an insurance certificate (green card) as proof of cover as soon as liability cover is granted; it is valid in every country named on the certificate and not expressly crossed out, and ceases to be valid upon cancellation, suspension or end of the contract.
Roadside assistance
Covered

Base cover (included) provides towing of the immobilised vehicle to a garage and transport of passengers home following a road accident in Belgium or up to 30 km beyond the Belgian border, regardless of fault. Optional Mobilité Start/Go/Go+ formulas add a replacement vehicle or mobility budget (7 days category B under Go, 15 days category D under Go+) and broader assistance abroad, chauffeur replacement and spare-part shipping.
Driver accident cover (Assurance Conducteur)
€500,000
Optional guarantee compensating the driver of the insured vehicle for bodily injury or death resulting from a road accident, regardless of fault, under ordinary law rules, up to 500,000 EUR per claim, including up to 500 EUR for clothing damage.
Passenger cover
Covered
Passengers of the insured vehicle are covered as third parties under the mandatory liability guarantee: bodily injury and clothing damage suffered by weak road users and passengers are indemnified with no cap on bodily injury; there is no separate passenger-accident capital sum.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Liability, legal defence, Omnium and driver cover apply in every country named on the insurance certificate (green card) and not expressly crossed out; the Omnium guarantee is valid worldwide.
Green card rules
The insurer delivers a certificate of insurance as proof of cover once liability cover is granted; this certificate becomes invalid upon cancellation of the contract and ceases to be valid from the effective date of termination or suspension.
Driver restrictions
Cover applies to any authorised driver of the designated vehicle; the insurer may recover indemnities paid to victims if, at the time of the claim, the vehicle was driven by a person who did not meet the legal requirements to drive it (under-age, no valid licence, disqualification or restriction of the right to drive) or by a thief or receiver of the stolen vehicle.
Claim notification deadline
Any claim must be declared in writing immediately and at the latest within 8 days of its occurrence (or of becoming aware of it), to the insurer or to any other person designated for that purpose in the contract.
Bonus-malus rules
A no-claims/claims scale runs from Malus 10 (250% of the base premium) down to Super-bonus 5 (50%), with entry at degree 'Starter' (100%) adjusted for the driver's licence seniority. Each claims-free observed period moves the policyholder down one degree; each claim with liability moves them up five degrees. If no claim is declared for 4 consecutive years while still in a malus degree, the policyholder is automatically reset to 'Starter'.
