Direct payment

As a mandatory third-party liability insurance, FEDERALE pays compensation directly to injured third parties rather than to the policyholder; under the assistance guarantee, towing and repair costs are settled directly with the approved service provider within the limits and conditions of that guarantee.

Geographic scope

Belgium

Cover applies in all EU member states, the United Kingdom, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican City, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, San Marino, Switzerland, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro (countries listed on the insurance certificate); FEDERALE Assistance Auto is limited to Belgium and within 50 km beyond the border.

Coverage limits

Bodily Injury Liability

unlimited

Bodily injury caused to third parties is compensated without any indemnity limit, in accordance with the mandatory Belgian MTPL law of 21 November 1989.

Driver Accident Insurance

€500,000

The optional Driver Insurance compensates the insured driver, or their heirs in case of death, for material damage resulting from bodily injury or death in a traffic accident involving the insured vehicle, up to EUR 500,000 (non-indexed) per claim, advances and interest included; moral damage is excluded and the insured driver must be domiciled in Belgium and at least 23 years old.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover extends to all EU member states, the United Kingdom, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican City, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, San Marino, Switzerland, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro (countries listed on the insurance certificate); roadside assistance is limited to Belgium and within 50 km of the border.

Green card rules

The green card / insurance certificate proves cover in each listed country; when a claim occurs abroad in a country on the certificate, the cover applied is that of the local compulsory motor insurance law, but the insured may never be deprived of the broader cover Belgian law would grant.

Driver restrictions

The insurer has a right of recourse against the policyholder and/or insured driver where, at the time of the claim, the vehicle was driven by a person who had not reached the legally required minimum age, did not hold a valid driving licence, breached specific licence restrictions, or was subject to a driving ban in Belgium.

Claim notification deadline

Every claim must be reported in writing immediately and at the latest within 8 days of its occurrence to the insurer or to a person designated for that purpose in the contract.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums follow an a posteriori personalisation scale from degree 0 to 22 (base premium level 100 corresponds to degree 14); a claim-free observed insurance period lowers the degree by one, while each claim raises it by five degrees; entry is normally at degree 14, or degree 11 for limited private/commuting use.
