Aedes NV/SA (mandated underwriter of the Monceau Assurances group in Belgium), with life insurance activities carried out via Vitis Life S.A. – Belgian Branch
Aedes
Aedes is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Belgium market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Direct payment to the repair garage can be arranged for the Omnium guarantee.
Geographic scope
Belgium
All countries shown on the insurance certificate (green card); a stay of the designated vehicle in another EEA member state during the contract term is never treated as a change of risk.
Unique selling points
- Aedes matches, on first request, the terms of any broader legal-protection auto policy offered by a competing Belgian insurer.
- 24/7 roadside assistance with a replacement vehicle is included free of charge within the compulsory liability premium.
- Trailers and caravans up to 750 kg towed by the insured vehicle are covered free of charge.
- Accessories purchased after the policy is taken out are covered free of charge up to €1,000, with no need for prior declaration.
- For hybrid and electric vehicles, up to €5,000 is covered for safety measures taken to prevent the battery from catching fire or causing further damage.
Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability
unlimited
There is no indemnity limit for damage resulting from bodily injury caused to third parties by the insured vehicle.
Property Damage Liability
€100,000,000
Compensation for material damage caused to third parties is capped at €100,000,000 per claim; this amount is indexed in accordance with the Law of 21 November 1989 on compulsory motor liability insurance.
Legal Protection (Motor Legal Defence)
€150,000
Optional guarantee covering civil/criminal defence and civil recourse costs relating to the insured vehicle, up to €150,000 (VAT incl.) per claim, except for narrower sub-guarantees (insolvency of third parties, advance of funds, criminal bail, vehicle repatriation, psychological assistance) which carry their own lower caps. On first request, Aedes aligns its cover with any broader claims settlement offered by a competing Belgian motor legal-protection policy.
Green Card / Territorial Coverage
Covered
The compulsory liability guarantee is valid in every country shown on the insurance certificate; the contract automatically ends as soon as the insured vehicle is registered in a country other than Belgium.
Roadside / Vehicle Assistance
Covered
24/7 assistance to the vehicle and its occupants after a technical incident (breakdown, accident, theft/attempted theft, animal damage, fire, vandalism) in Belgium or abroad, including a replacement vehicle; included free of charge within the compulsory liability premium. For breakdowns, intervention is available twice a year for vehicles under 10 years old and once a year for vehicles over 10 years old.
Driver Accident (Driver Personal Injury Guarantee)
€25,000
Optional guarantee covering only the authorised driver: a death capital of €25,000 to the non-divorced spouse or, failing that, legal heirs up to the 2nd degree (reduced to funeral-cost reimbursement up to €2,500 if the driver was over 70 or leaves no such heirs); permanent invalidity compensated at €500/€750/€1,000 per % depending on severity band (halved if the driver is over 70); treatment costs up to €5,000 and damaged clothing up to €500.
Passenger Accident (Bodily Injury of Transported Persons)
unlimited
Passengers transported in the insured vehicle are covered as third parties under the compulsory bodily injury liability guarantee, without any monetary limit; weak road users and their passengers additionally benefit from the no-fault indemnification scheme under Article 29bis of the Law of 21 November 1989. There is no separate passenger-accident capital comparable to the optional Driver guarantee, which insures only the authorised driver.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover is acquired for a claim occurring in any country shown on the insurance certificate. When a claim occurs outside Belgium, the cover granted is that provided by the compulsory motor insurance legislation of the country where the claim occurred, unless Belgian law grants broader cover to the insured.
Green card rules
No stay of the designated vehicle in another EEA member state during the contract is treated as an aggravation or reduction of risk and cannot trigger a contract modification; however, the contract ends automatically as soon as the vehicle is registered in a state other than Belgium.
Driver restrictions
CARES is intended for drivers aged 25 to 74. The insured vehicle must be a car, van (subject to acceptance conditions) or motorhome (subject to connexity) with power not exceeding 190 kW; mopeds, motorcycles, three- and four-wheeled motor vehicles and trucks are excluded from the vehicle definition.
Claim notification deadline
Every claim must be declared in writing immediately and at the latest within 8 days of its occurrence; a later declaration is still accepted if made as quickly as reasonably possible.
Bonus-malus rules
Premium follows an a-posteriori personalisation scale from degree -4 (54% of base premium) to degree 22 (200% of base premium). New contracts enter at degree 14 (or degree 11 for limited private/commuting use meeting specific conditions). Each claim-free observed period moves the policyholder down one degree; each period with one or more claims adds five degrees per claim; a policyholder above degree 14 after 4 consecutive claim-free periods is automatically reset to degree 14.
