Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify Bulstrad of the occurrence of an insured event within 7 working days of its occurrence, and must immediately notify the competent traffic authorities where required by law, without leaving the scene until authorities arrive except for medical emergencies.

Bonus-malus rules

Bulgaria's Insurance Code was amended in 2025 to introduce a national bonus-malus system for MTPL (new Art. 490a, in force since 01.08.2025), under which insurers adopt and apply rules to adjust the premium based on the policyholder's claims history over a given period. The tariff applies regional coefficients based on vehicle registration plate regions grouped as Regions I through V, with a 20% discount available in Region V for clients who also hold a valid Casco or Property insurance with Bulstrad. No Bulstrad-specific bonus-malus implementation details were found in official sources at the time of verification.

Чл. 490а. (1) За целите на определяне на застрахователната премия по задължителна застраховка "Гражданска отговорност" на автомобилистите застрахователят приема и прилага правила за коригиране на застрахователната премия въз основа на предявените претенции за определен период от време (система "бонус-малус на застрахователя").

Territorial scope

Coverage applies on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria under Bulgarian law; extends to EU/EEA member states under local legislation; also covers third-country territory where damages are caused to persons from EU member states travelling between two member states, and territories of countries whose insurers' bureau is party to the multilateral agreement or the Green Card system.
