Coverage limits
Medical Expenses
Covered
Covers reasonable and customary expenses for urgent or emergency medical assistance following an accident or acute illness abroad, including medical transport to the nearest medical facility, medical examinations, procedures and tests ordered by qualified medical specialists, emergency hospitalization in a standard room for up to 20 days, physician fees, and prescribed medications purchased within 5 days of prescription. Coverage aims at controlling acute symptoms and restoring health to the level allowing continued travel or medical repatriation.
Emergency Medical Treatment
Covered
Emergency medical treatment is covered as part of the Medical Expenses risk, covering medical activities aimed at restoring acutely life-threatening conditions and maintaining vital body functions. Covers both urgent (neotlozhna) and emergency (speshna) medical assistance abroad due to accident or acute illness. The overall limit (2,000-100,000 EUR) is agreed at contract time.
Hospitalization
Covered
Emergency hospitalization for diagnosis and inpatient treatment in a standard room of the medical facility for up to 20 consecutive days is covered within the Medical Expenses risk limit. No separate sub-limit is specified in the general terms; the applicable limit is set at contract time within the overall policy limit.
Outpatient Treatment
Covered
Medical examinations, procedures and tests ordered and conducted by qualified medical specialists, physician fees, and prescribed medications (purchased within 5 days of prescription) are covered within the Medical Expenses risk. No separate sub-limit is specified; costs are covered within the overall medical expenses limit agreed at contract time.
Emergency Dental Care
Covered
Covers reasonable and customary expenses for emergency dental treatment exclusively in cases of pulpitis, abscess, or tooth extraction. The insured pays out of pocket and then submits a reimbursement claim. Included in both Option A and Option B base coverage. A separate sub-limit applies as set in the policy. Routine or cosmetic dental work is excluded.
Medical Transport
Covered
Covers transport by specialized medical ground or air vehicle from the site of the insured event to the nearest medical facility or physician. Included within the Medical Expenses risk. Medical transport is defined as a specialized vehicle equipped for emergency medical care, including a mobile emergency team.
Medical Repatriation / Medical Evacuation
Covered
Covers costs of repatriating the insured from a medical facility abroad to a medical facility in Bulgaria or the country of permanent residence for continued inpatient treatment, following an accident or acute illness. Also covers a companion (medical person, team, relative, or other pre-approved person) if required. Liability applies only if all conditions and costs are pre-approved by the insurer or assistance company, or repatriation is organized by them, and a medical opinion confirms the insured's condition permits repatriation. If the insured refuses repatriation, no further treatment or repatriation costs are covered.
Repatriation of Remains
Covered
Covers costs of repatriating the remains of the insured who dies abroad due to an accident or acute illness, to Bulgaria or the country of permanent residence. Alternatively covers burial or cremation abroad up to 10% of the agreed overall limit of liability. All conditions and costs must be pre-approved by the insurer or assistance company, or the repatriation, burial, or cremation must be organized by them. Storage, inventory, and return of the insured's property are not covered.
Search and Rescue Expenses
Optional
Optional add-on covering actual costs incurred by local specialized search, rescue, and first-aid services for the insured. Not covered when the insured fails to follow established rules, markings, warning or prohibition signs, or instructions from guides, rescue services, or any other competent safety authority. Also not covered in deserts, jungles, mountains above 4,000 m above sea level, the Arctic, or Antarctica.
COVID-19 Treatment
Covered
Medical expenses in the event of COVID-19 are covered as specified in the General Terms and Conditions, within the medical expenses limit. COVID-19 qualifies as an acute illness when it meets the definition: sudden onset and progressive course, first manifesting abroad during the coverage period, requiring urgent or emergency treatment due to symptoms directly threatening the health and life of the insured.
Pre-existing and Chronic Conditions
Excluded
Past illnesses and chronic diseases are explicitly excluded from base coverage. Specifically excluded regardless of when first manifested: chronic diseases and their recurrences, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cirrhosis, osteoporosis, malignant diseases, benign tumors, congenital anomalies, hernias, radiculitis, discopathy, intervertebral disc damage, lumbago, arthrosis, and sciatica. Acute exacerbation of a chronic disease that directly threatens life is available only as an optional add-on.
Winter Sports Cover
Optional
Winter sports activities may be covered if explicitly agreed between the parties and stated in the insurance contract as the purpose of travel. Without this explicit agreement, events arising during sports activities are excluded. The insured must use appropriate protective equipment and designated, maintained, marked facilities. Heli-skiing and alpine activities above 4,000 m are excluded even with sports coverage extension.
Adventure and Extreme Sports Cover
Optional
High-risk sports may be covered by explicit agreement, with the activity stated in the policy as the purpose of travel. Permanently excluded regardless of agreement: contact sports, rock climbing, mountaineering above 4,000 m, heli-skiing, diving below 10 m, motorcycling, parachuting, hang-gliding, BASE jumping, caving, speleology, circus activities, stunts, and any other extreme activities. Tourism including extreme sports must be organized by a licensed tour operator with a licensed instructor or guide.
Pregnancy Complications after 26 Weeks of Gestation
Optional
Available as an optional add-on. Covers urgent or emergency medical assistance, including medical transport, for sudden complications related to pregnancy after the 26th completed gestational week that directly threaten the health and life of the pregnant person and/or the baby. Complications known or established before the conclusion of the insurance contract (high-risk or pathological pregnancy) are excluded even under this add-on.
Civil Liability (Third-Party Liability)
Covered
Covers the insured person's liability for damages caused to third parties during travel or stay abroad, including non-pecuniary and pecuniary damages from bodily injury or death, damage to third-party property, and court costs awarded against the insured. Included in both Option A and Option B. Excludes liability from pollution, product liability, breach of contract, ownership or use of motor vehicles, aircraft, vessels, real estate or animals, professional activities, and use of weapons.
Legal Assistance (Legal Expenses)
Conditional
Covers legal defense costs for the insured if a claim for damages caused to third parties or an administrative offense under local law is filed against them during travel or stay abroad. Included only in Option B, not in Option A. Excludes obligations to pay court bail or fines, confiscation or other property sanctions under criminal or administrative penalty provisions, costs for witnesses and court-appointed experts, and court costs including state fees.
24/7 Assistance Service
Covered
24/7 qualified assistance provided by Euro-Center Holding (phone +420 221 860 651 with service in Bulgarian, plus online chatbot) upon occurrence of an insured event. The assistance company organizes and coordinates immediate help, guides the insured to appropriate medical facilities, doctors, dentists, lawyers, and other service providers, and directly pays approved expenses. Available worldwide from any location.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must contact the assistance company (Euro-Center Holding) immediately — personally or through another person — before taking any action or incurring any expenses. If contact cannot be established for a valid reason at the time of the event, notification must be made as soon as possible but no later than 3 working days from the occurrence of the event. Failure to notify in time may result in the insurer refusing to cover expenses exceeding 150 EUR made without prior approval.
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured does not comply with the instructions given by the assistance company, the insurer has the right to refuse to cover expenses exceeding 150 EUR that were incurred without prior approval from the assistance company or insurer. The insured must strictly follow all instructions given by the assistance company, including regarding the medical facility and physician to consult.
Purchase while abroad
If a person is already abroad at the time of concluding the insurance contract, coverage begins only after 15 days from the start of the contract term, provided the premium has been paid. This waiting period does not apply when the contract is concluded to extend existing coverage and the new contract is signed before the previous one expires.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases (diagnosed before the contract date, long-term in nature, lasting months or years) are not covered by the base policy. Specifically excluded are: multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cirrhosis, osteoporosis, malignant diseases, benign tumors, hernias, radiculitis, discopathy, intervertebral disc damage, lumbago, arthrosis, and sciatica. Acute exacerbation of a chronic disease that directly threatens life may be covered only as an optional add-on called Worsening of Chronic Disease.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy, childbirth, and abortion (including their consequences) are excluded from base coverage. Complications related to pregnancy after the 26th completed gestational week that directly threaten the health and life of the pregnant person and/or the baby are available only as an optional add-on. Pre-existing complications or high-risk pregnancy known before the contract are excluded even under the add-on.
pre_existing_conditions
Past illnesses (arising before the contract date, whether previously diagnosed or not) are excluded. Chronic illnesses, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cirrhosis, osteoporosis, malignant and benign tumors, congenital anomalies, hernias, disc and spinal conditions, arthrosis, and sciatica are permanently excluded. An optional add-on for worsening of chronic disease is available but only covers acute exacerbations that directly threaten life, not routine management of the underlying condition.
coverage_duration_limit
For single-trip policies coverage is valid from 1 day to 1 year depending on the duration of stay abroad. For Multitrip policies the contract term is 1 year with an effective period per trip of 30, 60, 90, or 120 days; total days abroad cannot exceed 180 days during the contract term. For policies longer than 30 days, persons aged 65 and above must complete a health declaration. Coverage ends upon exhaustion of the limit of liability, expiry of the contract, or the insured's return from abroad, whichever occurs first.
