COVID-19 treatment

Conditional

COVID-19 is treated as any other acute illness under the medical expenses coverage, provided it arises suddenly and unexpectedly during the trip abroad. Conditions for exclusions (pre-existing conditions, hospitalization in the prior 12 months) apply equally. No explicit COVID-19 exclusion or separate COVID-19 clause is present in the VPP UCZ/Ces/10 documents provided. Coverage is conditional on the illness being an unpredictable acute illness, not a pre-existing condition.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

For outpatient care, the insured may contact the assistance service before visiting a doctor. Upon hospitalization, the insured must immediately (without delay) contact the insurer's assistance service. If direct payment was not arranged by the assistance service, the insured must report the insured event in writing to the insurer immediately after returning to the Czech Republic, no later than 30 days after the end of the trip.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured delays reporting the insured event or provides incomplete information in the claim notification, and this makes it more difficult to investigate the extent of the damage, the insurer is entitled to reduce the insurance benefit. The insurer may reduce or refuse the benefit if the insured fails to follow the assistance service instructions or the insurer's guidelines.

Purchase while abroad

If any of the insured persons is already abroad at the time of concluding the insurance policy, coverage is provided no earlier than 0:00 hours on the 7th day following the date of conclusion of the insurance. This restriction does not apply if the client is arranging a follow-on policy (i.e., has a currently valid policy with the insurer and the new policy start date directly follows the existing one).

Chronic conditions

Treatment or operation of a chronic illness is excluded if during the previous 12 months the illness required hospitalization, was progressing, or caused substantial changes in medication. Acute complications of a chronic condition may be covered if they meet the criteria of an unpredictable acute illness.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy is covered up to and including week 26. Medical expenses are covered for complications during this period. After week 26, all complications, childbirth, and related treatments are excluded. High-risk pregnancies are excluded from coverage at any stage.

pre_existing_conditions

Medical care related to illnesses or injuries existing before the conclusion of the insurance contract is excluded. Chronic conditions that required hospitalization, were progressing, or caused significant medication changes in the previous 12 months are not covered.

coverage_duration_limit

For a single-trip policy, maximum duration is 366 days. For annual multi-trip policies, each individual trip may last a maximum of 45 calendar days; the number of trips per year is unlimited. If the insured cannot return to the Czech Republic due to force majeure or necessary hospitalization, the policy automatically extends free of charge for the minimum period necessary to return.
