Coop Forsikringer (insurance brand distributed by Coop Danmark A/S)
Coop Forsikringer
Coop Forsikringer is a motor casco insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Claims are settled either by repair at a freely chosen workshop or by cash compensation calculated at the price a comparable used car of the same age and condition would cost; the policyholder pays the applicable deductible and any VAT.
Geographic scope
Denmark
Base cover applies while driving in Denmark; roadside assistance under the comprehensive (kasko) cover is valid throughout Europe, and driving abroad in a privately used car or van extends the policy with a special rescue-insurance cover. Kasko customers involved in an accident abroad are additionally covered by the Red Card scheme, which includes free roadside help, towing and repatriation of the car.
Unique selling points
- Kasko, liability and driver-accident cover are bundled into every package as standard, unlike many competitors who sell driver-accident cover separately.
- Roadside assistance comes with a one-hour response guarantee — if help doesn't arrive in time, a full year of roadside-assistance premium is refunded.
- Annual mileage is self-reported once a year and the premium is automatically adjusted, so customers don't overpay for kilometres they haven't driven.
- A fixed 6% loyalty discount applies every year from the second year onward, regardless of claims history.
- Coop members earn monthly bonus points on their premium that can be spent in Coop supermarkets.
Coverage limits
Own damage (comprehensive/kasko)
Covered
Kasko cover pays for damage to the insured car itself, e.g. collision, fire, short-circuit, explosion or falling objects. Claims are cash-settled at the price a comparable used car of the same age and condition would cost; the exact deductible varies by chosen package (Standard/Plus/Super).
Total loss
Covered
If the car is declared a total loss, compensation is cash-settled at the price a comparable used car of the same age and condition would cost. If the car had driven no more than 5,000 km when the policy took effect, new-value compensation up to the documented purchase price applies instead (not for leased cars).
Partial loss / repair costs
DKK 20,000
Repair costs for partial damage are covered; spare parts are covered up to a maximum of DKK 20,000 per claim (not indexed), factory-fitted extra equipment is covered up to DKK 15,000 per claim (can be increased for an extra premium), and only one transport to a workshop per claim is covered.
Theft and robbery
Covered
Theft and robbery of the car are covered. If the car is not found within four weeks of Coop and the police receiving the theft report, cash compensation is paid instead, calculated at the price a comparable car of the same age and condition would cost.
Glass damage
Conditional
Glass damage (e.g. stone chips) is repaired without deductible automatically in the Plus and Super packages, and replacement of glass carries a special, lower deductible. Standard-package customers can add this cover as a paid optional extra ('udvidet glasskadeforsikring').
Natural perils (storm/flood/weather)
No limit stated
No explicit statement of storm, flood or other weather-related peril cover was found in the reviewed official sources; only fire, lightning, explosion and falling objects are explicitly named as covered non-collision perils.
Vandalism
Covered
Vandalism (hærværk) is a covered peril under kasko: even damage limited to the car's mechanical, electrical or electronic parts, which is normally excluded, remains covered if caused by vandalism, fire, lightning, explosion, theft or robbery. The Super package additionally removes the deductible for such damage via the 'Friskade' feature.
Roadside assistance
Optional
Optional roadside assistance covering jump-start, flat-tyre help and towing, valid throughout Europe, with a one-hour response guarantee — if help does not arrive within an hour, a full year's roadside-assistance premium is refunded.
Replacement vehicle
Covered
If a comprehensive (kasko) claim is accepted, a daily cash allowance (DKK 340/day, 2024 level) is paid towards a replacement car while repairs are ongoing, for up to 28 days (not payable for glass-only claims, with up to 5 extra days for paintwork). Alternatively, a class-A rental car (no tow bar) can be hired from the insurer at a reduced daily rate (DKK 218/day, 2024 level) for an unlimited rental period, subject to a refundable deposit.
Driver accident insurance
DKK 688,000
Driver accident insurance is always included in every package. It pays up to DKK 688,000 (2024 level, reduced from age 68) for permanent invalidity, DKK 521,000 (2024) on death leaving a spouse, DKK 20,744/year (2024) per surviving child until age of majority, DKK 340/day (2024) during the repair period of a covered kasko claim, and up to DKK 26,914 (2024) towards funeral costs. Amounts are index-adjusted annually.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
Drivers under 24 face an increased minimum deductible (at least DKK 7,700) on liability or comprehensive claims; this surcharge is waived if the optional 'young driver' add-on is bought, which also lets resident children build their own no-claims seniority for up to four years.
Repair network requirements
You may freely choose your own repair workshop. For glass-only damage with no liable third party, you can go straight to a workshop without first reporting a claim, as the workshop notifies Coop automatically; other claims should ideally be reported before repair work starts.
Territorial scope
Base cover applies in Denmark; roadside assistance under kasko is valid throughout Europe, driving abroad extends the policy with a special rescue-insurance cover for privately used cars/vans, and kasko customers in an accident abroad are covered under the Red Card scheme.
Anti-theft requirements
For certain (typically higher-value) cars, Coop may require an approved anti-theft device (e.g. tracking/immobiliser) to be fitted and active at the time of theft as a condition for theft cover; the policyholder bears the burden of proving this requirement was met.
Claim notification deadline
Claims should generally be reported before the car goes to a workshop, or as soon as possible afterwards; theft, robbery and vandalism must also be reported to the police as quickly as possible.
Deductible rules
A standard deductible applies per kasko claim, with the level depending on the chosen package (Standard/Plus/Super). The Plus and Super packages include glass repairs without a deductible, and Super additionally removes the deductible for damage caused by fire, lightning, explosion, theft, robbery or vandalism ('Friskade'). A separate, higher minimum deductible of DKK 7,700 applies to drivers under 24 unless waived.
