Købstædernes Forsikring, mutual
KF Forsikring
KF Forsikring is a motor casco insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Købstædernes Forsikring settles repair invoices directly with the workshop and pays the VAT upfront; VAT-registered business owners ultimately bear the VAT to the extent they can reclaim it as input VAT, and the insurer invoices the policyholder for any deductible amount due.
Geographic scope
Europe and Green Card countries
Covers Europe and non-European countries party to the Green Card scheme; unregistered mopeds, work machines/tractors and stationary caravans are covered only in Denmark; driving on airside airport areas is excluded unless specially agreed.

Unique selling points
- 10% discount when the insurance is purchased online.
- Policyholders who drive claim-free for 5 years become an 'elitebilist', earning a lower price and a lower deductible.
- Partner 'Fordelsværksteder' offer a free loan car during repairs and a three-year warranty on completed repair work.
- Free roadside assistance abroad via the Red Card/SOS International system is included automatically with casco, covering on-site help, towing, transport home and sourcing spare parts.
- 'Ung fører bonus' removes the increased deductible normally charged when a family member under 26 borrows the car, while letting the young driver build up their own no-claims history.
Coverage limits
Own Damage (Comprehensive Casco Cover)
Covered
Casco covers any damage to the insured car, including fixed accessories, resulting from events such as collision, fire, theft, robbery, vandalism, storm and other perils. Settlement is either repair or a cash payment equal to the price of an equivalent car of the same age and condition. For cars that were brand new when the policy was taken out, if damage occurs within the first year and repair costs exceed 50% of the new price, new-for-old (nyværdierstatning) replacement value is paid instead - except for leased cars.
Total Loss Settlement
Covered
If the car is assessed as beyond repair, or is not recovered within 4 weeks of a theft/robbery report to Købstædernes Forsikring and the police, cash compensation is paid equal to the price of an equivalent car of the same age and condition; the damaged car then becomes the property of Købstædernes Forsikring.
Partial Damage / Repair
Covered
Købstædernes Forsikring may have the car repaired, restoring it to its condition before the damage, and is entitled to designate the repairer. Reduced resale value from a repair is not compensated. If the car was already with a repairer/dealer when the damage occurred, repair is settled at net (trade) prices. Repair is not carried out if the cost exceeds the threshold set by the Ministry of Taxation; the claim is then settled in cash instead.
Theft and Robbery
DKK 27,329
Casco covers loss of the car through theft or robbery. Detached summer/winter tyres and rims are only covered if stored in a locked room, or handed in for storage with a dealer/repairer. Reimbursement for non-factory-fitted equipment such as audio/navigation/tuning equipment is capped at DKK 27,329 (2021 index).
Glass Damage
Covered
Glass damage (windscreen, windows, light lenses, mirrors) is covered under casco; repairs are made without a deductible, while replacement is subject to the policy's standard deductible. The insurer works with partners Dansk Bilglas and Carglass for repairs. If the optional 'Udvidet bildækning' extension is chosen, the deductible is waived for glass repair/replacement except a reduced deductible of DKK 1,740 (2021) applying to windscreen replacement.
Natural Perils (Storm, Fire, Lightning)
Covered
Casco covers damage caused by fire, explosion, short-circuit, lightning strike, storm and falling objects. Earthquake and other natural disturbances are excluded, as is damage from war, warlike actions, civil unrest, terrorism and the release of nuclear/radioactive energy.
Vandalism (Hærværk)
Covered
Damage caused by vandalism is covered under casco; no deductible is charged if the perpetrator is 'known', i.e. has confessed to or been convicted of the vandalism.
Roadside Assistance Abroad (Red Card / SOS International)
Covered
Automatically included with casco cover: emergency roadside assistance abroad via the SOS International Red Card scheme, covering on-site assistance, towing, transport of the car home, hotel costs and sourcing of spare parts; excludes vehicles with a gross weight over 3.5 tonnes. A separate optional 'Vejhjælp' add-on covers roadside assistance within Denmark, limited to 3 call-outs per insurance year.
Replacement Vehicle
DKK 500
Available as part of the optional 'Udvidet bildækning' extension: reimbursement of up to DKK 500 per day for hiring a replacement car if the repairing workshop cannot provide one, following a covered casco claim; limited to 14 days from the date the car is handed in for repair (28 days if the car is stolen or a total loss); fuel costs are not covered.
Driver/Passenger Accident Cover (Førerpladsdækning)
Optional
Optional add-on covering personal injury to the driver from a traffic accident or when entering/exiting the car, when compensation cannot be obtained from a liable third party; compensation for personal injury is assessed according to the rules and rates in the Danish Liability for Damages Act (Lov om erstatningsansvar) rather than a fixed sum insured.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
Drivers under 26 years old face an additional deductible of DKK 4,611 (2019 index) on top of the standard deductible if found liable for a compensable traffic accident; this extra deductible does not apply if the driver is the registered owner/user, a spouse/cohabiting partner, or if the car is a business vehicle used for business purposes at the time, and it never applies to theft claims. The optional 'Ung fører bonus' add-on removes this age-related deductible when a family member under 26 borrows the car, while letting the young driver build up no-claims history.
Repair network requirements
Købstædernes Forsikring is entitled to designate the repair shop. If the car is repaired at a workshop the insurer has appointed, or was already with a dealer/repairer when damaged, repairs are settled at net (trade) prices; otherwise, compensation matches the amount the repairer would normally charge for such repair.
Territorial scope
Cover applies in Europe and, for the compulsory liability part, in non-European countries covered by the Green Card scheme. Unregistered mopeds, work machines/tractors and stationary caravans are only covered in Denmark; driving on airside areas of airports is excluded unless specially agreed; roadside assistance abroad via the Red Card excludes vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
Anti-theft requirements
Detached summer/winter tyres (with rims) are only covered against theft if stored in a locked room or building, or handed in for storage with a car dealer/repairer. Theft, robbery and vandalism must also be reported to the police, and a receipt for the police report should be kept for the claim.
Claim notification deadline
Claims must be reported as soon as possible, and the policyholder must take steps to limit the extent of the damage. Theft, robbery, assault and vandalism must also be reported to the police, with a receipt for the police report kept for the claim.
Deductible rules
A single deductible applies per claim; if a claim involves both the compulsory liability cover and casco, only the higher of the two deductibles is charged. No deductible is charged for vandalism by a 'known' perpetrator, damage occurring while the car was with a repairer/dealer, damage after the car has been handed over to a new owner, or where liability lapses under the Liability for Damages Act. An additional deductible of DKK 20,000 (2019 index) applies if the driver had a blood alcohol level above 0.50 per mille, was under the influence of drugs, or was driving without a valid licence. Under the optional 'Udvidet bildækning' extension, deductibles are waived for most fire, theft, robbery, falling-object and glass/light-breakage claims, except a reduced deductible of DKK 1,740 (2021) for windscreen replacement.
