Tryg Forsikring A/S
Tryg
Tryg is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
The policyholder may not agree to liability or repair settlements without Tryg's prior consent; Tryg settles claims either by having the car repaired, by in-kind replacement, or by cash compensation, and pays repair-related costs directly to the workshop where repairs are carried out on a Tryg-approved workshop.
Geographic scope
Europe and countries outside Europe party to the Green Card scheme
The liability insurance covers driving in Denmark, the rest of Europe, and Green Card countries. Trucks over 4 tonnes total weight are only covered outside the EU by special agreement with Tryg, and liability for damage to transported goods abroad is excluded.

Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability
Covered
In Denmark the liability insurance covers with the sums set by the Danish Road Traffic Act (færdselsloven); higher sums can be agreed and will appear on the policy. In Green Card countries the insurance covers according to that country's law, but at least with the Danish sums, and the same applies in other countries.
Property Damage Liability
Covered
Covered under the same liability insurance and statutory sums as bodily injury; excludes damage to property belonging to the vehicle's fixed user/policyholder or companies owned by them, damage to the driver's own belongings, and damage to a towed vehicle or trailer.
Legal Expenses Insurance
Conditional
Legal expenses cover applies only in conjunction with the casco/kasko cover (not with liability and/or fire cover alone), covering the policyholder's legal costs for certain private disputes that can be brought before courts or arbitration; a lawyer must be willing to take on the case for the cover to apply.
Green Card
Covered
The Green Card is an international insurance card for motor vehicles and serves as documentation that a compulsory liability insurance exists for the owner/user when driving abroad; the scheme covers all countries listed on the green card.
Tryg Vejhjælp (Roadside Assistance)
Optional
Roadside assistance cannot be purchased for all vehicle types and must be selected as an add-on shown on the policy; it covers breakdown or accident assistance (start help, tyre change, towing/transport) throughout Denmark excluding Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and extends to the E65 route to Ystad plus 25 km into Sweden and Germany.
Driver Accident Cover (Auto ulykkesforsikring)
DKK 1,049,895
Optional accident cover (shown on the policy if purchased) for the driver of the insured car following a traffic accident. Death benefit is 1,049,895 DKK (2016 index); permanent disability (mén) at 100% pays 2,099,770 DKK (2016 index); dental injury is capped at 63,024 DKK (2016 index); overall maximum compensation per accident is 5,249,374 DKK for death and 10,498,702 DKK for disability (2016 index, indexed annually).
Passenger Accident Cover (Auto ulykkesforsikring)
DKK 1,049,895
The same optional Auto ulykkesforsikring covers passengers carried in the insured car (not only the driver), with identical sums: death benefit 1,049,895 DKK, 100% disability (mén) 2,099,770 DKK, dental injury capped at 63,024 DKK, and overall maximums of 5,249,374 DKK (death) / 10,498,702 DKK (mén), all 2016 index.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Liability insurance covers driving in Denmark, the rest of Europe, and countries outside Europe party to the Green Card scheme. Trucks over 4 tonnes are only covered outside the EU by special agreement, and liability for damage to transported goods abroad is excluded.
Green card rules
The Green Card documents that a compulsory liability insurance is in force for the owner/user when driving abroad, and covers all countries shown on the card; in countries with a Green Card or other international agreement, cover follows that country's legislation but never less than the Danish statutory sums.
Driver restrictions
The policy covers the policyholder and anyone who uses the vehicle, or allows it to be used, with the policyholder's consent, including its driver; a new owner is covered under the liability (and any casco) insurance for up to three weeks after a change of ownership if no other insurance has been taken out.
Claim notification deadline
Any damage or accident that may give rise to a compensation claim must be reported to Tryg immediately, with as complete information as possible; theft of the vehicle itself must also be reported to the police immediately.
Bonus-malus rules
For each claim, the policy moves back 2 premium steps (præmietrin) from the step in force at the time of the claim; no step reduction applies for damage caused while the vehicle was with a workshop for repair/service, damage caused by a known culprit through theft or vandalism, or claims covered only under legal expenses, foreign rescue, loss-of-use, or accident cover.
