AAS BTA Baltic Insurance Company Estonian Branch
BTA
BTA is a motor casco insurance for the Estonia market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
BTA may settle a claim by reimbursing repair costs, paying a cash indemnity, or issuing a guarantee letter (garantiikiri) directly to the repair shop chosen by the policyholder; issuing a guarantee letter does not make BTA the party ordering the work nor responsible for the quality of the work performed.
Geographic scope
Europe
Coverage applies within the territory stated in the policy; by default this is Europe excluding Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kazakhstan, unless the contract states otherwise. The territory can be extended by agreement to also include Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
Unique selling points
- Windscreen and window repair or replacement is covered with zero deductible, unlike many competitors that charge for glass claims.
- The first collision with an animal during the policy period is reimbursed without any deductible.
- A 24/7 BTA Autoabi roadside assistance hotline covers breakdowns and accidents with towing, jump-starts, fuel delivery and a temporary replacement car.
- An optional deductible-waiver rider lets a not-at-fault driver avoid paying any deductible once per policy period.
- Vehicles still under manufacturer warranty are repaired at authorized dealer workshops using new original parts at no extra cost.
Coverage limits
Own Damage (Casco Cover)
Covered
Covers sudden and unforeseen damage to the insured vehicle from traffic accidents, natural disasters, fire, vandalism, theft or robbery. The sum insured for passenger and van-type vehicles equals the vehicle's market value in Estonia immediately before the event, unless a fixed sum has been agreed; for trucks, trailers and buses the sum insured is the numerical value stated on the policy.
Total Loss / Vehicle Write-off
Covered
The vehicle is deemed destroyed and repair economically unreasonable when repair costs exceed 70% of its usual market value at the time of the incident; BTA may itself treat the vehicle as a write-off once repair costs exceed 50% of that value. The payout is the vehicle's market value at the time of loss, less the deductible and the residual (salvage) value if the policyholder keeps the wreck.
Partial Loss / Repair Costs
Covered
Covers the reasonable and justified cost of restoring the vehicle when repair is economically and technically feasible; BTA may pay the repair cost directly to the repair shop via a guarantee letter or pay a cash indemnity, less the applicable deductible.
Theft and Robbery
Covered
Covers the unlawful taking of the vehicle for the purpose of appropriation (theft) or by force (robbery). Cover is voided or reduced if, among other things, the keys were left in the vehicle, doors/anti-theft devices were not engaged, the police were not properly notified, or the vehicle's registration certificate and all keys were not handed over to BTA after recovery (in which case BTA may cut the indemnity by 50%).
Windscreen and Window Glass
Covered
Repair or replacement of the front, rear and side windows (the 'glass') is covered without any deductible. A damaged glass that can be repaired to meet roadworthiness requirements is repaired without deductible, but if the policyholder chooses replacement instead of a feasible repair, or if the glass was already significantly damaged or worn before the event, the deductible waiver does not apply. Sunroofs, panoramic glass roofs, mirrors and vehicle lights are not classified as 'glass', and the standard deductible applies to their damage.
Natural Disaster
Covered
Covers vehicle damage caused by natural hazards such as flooding, whirlwind/storm, hail, hurricane, heatwave, landslide, forest fire or similar events.
Vandalism
Covered
Covers intentional damage to the vehicle caused by a third party who is not connected to the policyholder.
BTA Autoabi Roadside Assistance
€600
Optional add-on providing a 24/7 assistance hotline and roadside services (towing, jump-starts, tyre changes, fuel delivery, lock-outs, minor field repairs, replacement-car rental up to 3 days, passenger transport) when an insured event or a sudden breakdown makes the vehicle unusable. It applies only if specifically agreed in the policy (a 'lisakaitse'); no deductible applies when used; total assistance costs are capped at €600 when the triggering event occurs outside Estonia. Note: BTA's IPID lists Autoabi among benefits provided 'regardless of the chosen package', which appears to conflict with the T&C's classification of it as an optional rider requiring express agreement; the governing contractual T&C document is treated as authoritative here.
Replacement Vehicle
Optional
Optional add-on (lisakaitse) reimbursing rental costs for a replacement vehicle (up to compact-car class) or other transport costs (public transport, taxi) for up to 21 calendar days when the vehicle cannot be used or driven due to damage, is in repair, or has been stolen, robbed or destroyed. The maximum daily indemnity is stated on the policy. No indemnity is paid if the repair takes less than 12 hours or the loss is smaller than the deductible, and the benefit can be claimed at most twice per policy period; no separate deductible applies when this cover is used.
Driver and Passenger Accident Insurance
Optional
Optional add-on covering death or reduction/loss of work capacity of the driver (and, if the vehicle was in normal use, passengers) resulting directly from bodily injury in a traffic accident. The sum insured per insured person is stated on the policy; BTA pays 50% of it for partial incapacity/moderate disability lasting at least one year, and 100% for total incapacity/severe or profound disability, with the death benefit paid to the heirs if the insured dies within one year of the accident.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
The T&C, IPID and general terms do not specify a minimum driver age or driving-experience requirement for Casco cover.
Repair network requirements
During the manufacturer's general warranty period, repairs must be carried out at a manufacturer-authorized representative using original spare parts; after the warranty expires, repairs may be done at any repair shop unless the optional 'repair at manufacturer's authorized representative' rider has been purchased.
Territorial scope
Default territory is Europe excluding Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kazakhstan, unless the policy states otherwise; the territory can be extended by agreement to include Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
Anti-theft requirements
The vehicle must have factory-installed, functioning anti-theft equipment and the full set of keys provided by the manufacturer; BTA may request photos or an inspection to verify the vehicle's condition before cover starts.
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must notify BTA of a claim without delay and provide all available information and documents on the cause and extent of the loss; if the vehicle has a tachograph, a printout of the tachograph record sheet must be submitted within 48 hours of a traffic accident.
Deductible rules
The deductible stated on the policy applies to each insured event unless agreed otherwise, and multiple deductibles may apply simultaneously if several selected covers are triggered by one event. No deductible applies to windscreen, side- and rear-window repair/replacement (sunroofs, roof glass, mirrors and lights are not treated as 'glass' and the deductible does apply to them), to the first animal-collision claim per policy period, or to lost/stolen/damaged key or remote replacement (capped at €400 per event). The deductible is tripled if the vehicle is repaired outside Estonia or if the vehicle's actual use did not match the 'normal use' stated on the policy — in the latter case the tripling also overrides the glass and animal-collision deductible waivers.
