Direct payment

LHV decides the method of indemnification: it may restore the vehicle (potentially settling directly with an LHV-appointed repair partner) or pay a cash indemnity. If a cash payout is requested without documents proving the repair, the loss is calculated as 65% of the accepted repair cost; if the policyholder proves within 12 months that the payout was used for repairs, LHV also pays out the VAT portion withheld.

Geographic scope

Estonia

Cover applies in the territory stated on the policy; the most common territory is Europe excluding Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

Unique selling points

  • 24/7 roadside assistance is included free of charge in every casco package, covering everyday issues like a flat battery or keys locked in the car.
  • Loyal, claim-free customers are rewarded with a 50% lower deductible on their next claim after two consecutive claim-free insurance years.
  • Policyholders can self-select their deductible level to directly reduce the insurance premium according to their own risk appetite.
  • Coverage extends to pets travelling in the car, protecting them alongside passengers and cargo in the Premium and ePremium packages.
  • The ePremium package adds dedicated cover of up to €2,000 for home EV charging stations, a benefit competitors rarely offer as standard.

Coverage limits

Own damage (all-risk / comprehensive)

Covered

Comprehensive cover for unexpected and unforeseeable damage, destruction or loss of the vehicle caused by traffic accidents, other accidents (external mechanical force, natural disaster, fire, explosion), vandalism, or theft/robbery, up to the insured sum (the vehicle's replacement value) stated on the policy.

Source

Total loss

Covered

Full destruction, theft, hijacking or robbery of the vehicle is deemed total loss when repair costs would exceed 70% of the vehicle's market value; LHV reimburses the reasonable replacement cost based on the vehicle's Estonian market value immediately before the event. If marked on the policy, an additional 5% of the market value is paid for vehicle replacement/exchange costs (Premium/ePremium tiers include this as 'Autovahetuse kulu').

Partial loss / repair costs

Covered

Reasonable repair costs following a covered event are reimbursed if repair is economically and technically justified, after repair based on supporting documents. If the policyholder requests a cash payment without repair documents, the loss is calculated as 65% of the accepted repair cost; a cash payout otherwise requires LHV's consent and VAT is deducted unless repair is proven within 12 months.

Theft and robbery

Covered

Covers loss or damage of the vehicle or its parts due to theft, hijacking (unauthorised use), robbery, or attempts thereof, up to the insured sum. Cover is excluded if the vehicle lacked a functioning immobiliser/anti-theft device at the time or if the theft was not reported to the police.

Glass damage

Covered

Windscreen/window damage is covered within the all-risk cover, up to the insured sum. No deductible applies if the glass is repaired (not replaced); the base deductible applies to sunroof and panoramic glass roof damage.

Source

Natural perils

Covered

Damage or destruction caused by natural disasters, including flood water and hail, is covered as part of the 'accident' peril within the all-risk cover, up to the insured sum.

Source

Vandalism

Covered

Intentional damage to the vehicle by a third party is covered up to the insured sum as one of the four core all-risk perils.

Roadside assistance

Covered

24/7 roadside assistance for cars/vans up to 3,500 kg and motorcycles when an unexpected and unforeseeable event (e.g. flat battery, punctured tyre) prevents continued use of the vehicle; included with no deductible in every package. If towing is needed, the vehicle is transported within Estonia to a location chosen by the policyholder, or elsewhere on the covered territory to the nearest storage/repair facility; occupants may be brought to their destination or home within Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Must be ordered via LHV's roadside assistance phone line (680 1122). Towing/recovery costs to the nearest repair or storage location are separately covered up to €500 for cars/vans and €2,000 for trucks, buses and trailers.

Replacement vehicle

Conditional

Available for cars/vans up to 3,500 kg when the insured vehicle cannot be used due to a covered accident, vandalism, theft or (if covered) technical breakdown. Included for up to 30 days per claim (max twice per insurance period) in the Premium and ePremium packages; in the Standard package it is only available for an additional premium. The replacement vehicle need not be equivalent to the insured vehicle and is issued via an LHV-appointed partner.

Passenger/driver accident insurance

Optional

Optional add-on (selectable regardless of package under 'Lisakaitsed') covering permanent disability or death of up to five occupants (including the driver) resulting directly from bodily injury caused by the insured event, with a benefit limit of €10,000 per person per insurance period. Payment requires disability of at least one year with at least 30% determined disability by a competent authority; full sum is paid in case of death.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The terms and conditions do not set a minimum driver age or experience requirement. However, cover does not apply if the driver of the insured vehicle lacked the required licence category at the time of the accident, or was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or psychotropic substances.

Repair network requirements

The policyholder may choose any repair facility; LHV decides the method of indemnification (repair or cash reimbursement) and is not responsible for repair quality unless the work is carried out by an LHV-appointed partner. Restoration parts may match the vehicle's age and wear.

Territorial scope

Cover is valid within the territory stated on the policy. The most commonly applied territory is Europe excluding Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia (older editions referred to this exclusion collectively as 'CIS countries').

Anti-theft requirements

The vehicle must be fitted with a proper, functioning immobiliser and, where LHV requires, an additional anti-theft device (alarm or tracking system). Keys and registration documents must be kept so third parties cannot access them without force, and must never be left inside the vehicle. If keys are stolen, lost or robbed, locks/anti-theft electronics must be changed or recoded immediately.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify LHV of an insured event immediately, and in any case no later than five (business) days after the event occurred or after becoming aware of it.

Deductible rules

The deductible is a fixed amount and/or percentage stated on the policy (typical base deductible is €300). It is reduced by 50% for the first claim if no claims occurred with LHV during the previous two consecutive annual insurance periods for the same vehicle; it doubles from the third claim within one insurance period; theft deductibles set as a percentage cannot be lower than the base deductible; the deductible is doubled if the vehicle is repaired outside Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania; no deductible applies for animal/bird collisions if dashcam footage proves an attempt to avoid the collision, for glass repairs (except sunroof/glass roof), or for key replacement after theft/loss.
