LHV is a travel insurance for the EE market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
LHV organises and directly pays for hospital treatment, repatriation to home country, and burial or cremation abroad in the event of a medical assistance claim. Reimbursement of these costs is only made if pre-approved by LHV. For outpatient medical treatment not requiring hospitalisation, the insured may attend a licensed medical facility directly and claim reimbursement afterwards.

Medical expenses

Standalone policy sum is user-selected; LHV recommends a minimum of 500,000 EUR. Gold Card policy covers up to 750,000 EUR; Platinum Card up to 1,000,000 EUR per person per trip.
Emergency Medical Treatment

Emergency medical treatment (erakorraline/vältimatu arstiabi) is covered under the overall medical expenses sum insured with no separately stated sub-limit. Minimum recommended sum is 500,000 EUR.
Hospitalization
€500,000
Hospitalization (haiglaravi) abroad is covered within the overall medical expenses limit. No separate hospitalization sub-limit is stated in LHV's conditions; it draws from the same pool as all medical costs.
Outpatient Treatment
€500,000
Outpatient treatment (arstiabi, mis ei ole haiglaravi) is covered within the overall medical expenses limit. No separate outpatient sub-limit is specified; policyholder may seek outpatient care directly at a licensed medical facility.
Emergency dental treatment
Covered
Covers emergency dental treatment costs abroad for sudden toothache and first-aid dental costs resulting from an accident during the trip (e.g. fall), including investigations and medicines, up to EUR 500 per insured event. Planned dental treatment is not covered.
Medical transport
Covered
Covers transport costs for obtaining medical assistance abroad. Transport method must be agreed with LHV in advance. Costs are reimbursed from the medical assistance sum insured.
Medical evacuation / repatriation
Covered
Covers costs of medically necessary repatriation of a seriously ill or injured insured person to their home country. The method of transport must be agreed with LHV in advance, and an LHV-approved doctor must determine whether repatriation is medically necessary.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
Covers funeral costs abroad or the cost of transporting the deceased's body or ashes to the home country. Arrangement of burial/cremation abroad or the method of transporting remains must be agreed with LHV.

Search and rescue costs are not explicitly mentioned as a covered peril in the LHV standalone travel insurance conditions or IPID. No such coverage was found in the verified sources.
COVID-19 treatment and trip disruption cover
Optional
Available as an optional add-on (Covid-19 protection). Covers medical assistance costs abroad in case of COVID-19 infection, as well as trip cancellation/interruption costs before or during the trip, provided that COVID-19 illness is medically confirmed or the insured has been officially placed in self-isolation by order of national regulations or a doctor.
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded: LHV does not cover medical costs arising from illness or injury that began before the trip. However, emergency first aid for a life-threatening acute exacerbation of a chronic disease is covered as an exception.
Winter sports cover
Optional
Snowboarding, alpine skiing, and slalom on marked slopes at a ski resort are covered only if the sports protection add-on (spordikaitse) is selected on the policy. Standard medical assistance insurance does not automatically cover these activities.
Adventure / high-risk sports cover
Optional
High-risk activities such as combat sports (karate, judo, boxing, kickboxing, Thai boxing, wrestling), motor sports, ATV riding, motor racing, rallying, karting, snowmobile riding, and motorcycle sports are covered only if the sports protection add-on is elected on the policy. Standard leisure and fitness sports (running, cycling, golf, yoga, snorkelling to 10m, etc.) are always covered without additional premium.
Pregnancy complications

Emergency medical costs arising from unexpected pregnancy complications are covered up to and including the 35th week of pregnancy. Childbirth, planned pregnancy-related treatment, abortion, and postnatal care are excluded.
Personal liability
Optional
Available as an optional add-on. Covers third-party personal injury and property damage claims unlawfully caused by the insured abroad during the trip, where the insured is at fault or liable under law. A written claim must be submitted by the third party. The sum insured is stated on the policy and varies by chosen coverage level.
Legal assistance
Optional
Available as part of the liability and legal assistance add-on. Covers legal assistance costs and bail (kautsjon) in the event of an unintentional unlawful act abroad that leads to criminal or misdemeanour proceedings. The insured must immediately notify LHV and follow LHV's instructions.
24/7 claims and travel assistance
Covered
LHV operates a 24/7 claims handling and travel assistance line (+372 680 1122). Insured persons can contact this line at any time in the event of a medical emergency, claims notification, or for assistance during a trip.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
In the event of a medical emergency requiring hospitalisation, the insured must call LHV as soon as possible, preferably before hospital admission. For outpatient treatment, the insured may attend a licensed medical facility directly without prior notification.
Unauthorized treatment
LHV will only reimburse costs for hospitalisation, repatriation, and burial/cremation abroad if these services were pre-approved and co-ordinated with LHV. Costs incurred without prior LHV approval for these services may not be reimbursed.
Purchase while abroad
Travel insurance cannot be concluded once the insured has already departed from Estonia. The policy must be purchased before the trip begins.
Chronic conditions
Treatment costs for pre-existing chronic diseases are generally excluded. However, emergency first aid for a life-threatening acute exacerbation of a chronic condition during the trip is covered as an exception.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy complications cover is included up to and including the 35th week of pregnancy. Planned childbirth, planned pregnancy-related treatment, abortion, and postnatal care are excluded from coverage.
pre_existing_conditions
LHV does not reimburse medical costs where the cause is an illness or injury that began before the trip. The exclusion does not apply to emergency first aid for a life-threatening acute exacerbation of a pre-existing chronic disease. Mental and behavioural disorders, including depression, are also excluded from coverage.
coverage_duration_limit
For single-trip insurance, the policy period must cover the trip from departure to return. For annual multi-trip insurance, validity is one year with an unlimited number of trips; each individual trip may last up to 60 consecutive days. If the trip is extended due to an insured event beyond the insured's control, coverage automatically extends by 48 hours.
