Direct payment

LähiTapiola settles claims either by paying documented repair costs directly (often via a network of partner repair shops, e.g. for glass replacement), by paying an agreed estimated repair amount, by paying the change in the vehicle's fair market value, or by buying out (lunastus) the vehicle at its fair market value or at the Lunastusetu value; the insurer has the right to choose the settlement method and to designate the repair shop.

Geographic scope

Finland

Valid throughout Europe and in Green Card agreement countries outside Europe, except Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Iran, Israel, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.

Unique selling points

  • Glass chip repairs are covered with zero deductible, and glass replacement at a LähiTapiola partner shop costs only a €200 excess versus €300 elsewhere.
  • Customers can select their own collision (Kolarointi) deductible online from €200, €500, €750 or €1,000, tailoring the premium to their risk appetite.
  • A continuous 10% loss-free discount applies to the collision (Kolarointi) cover on top of the standard traffic-insurance bonus.
  • Bonusturva protects the policyholder's no-claims bonus so that a single claim does not reduce it.
  • Lunastusetu pays the price of a brand-new equivalent vehicle if a car under three years old with under 60,000 km is written off or badly damaged.

Coverage limits

Own damage (collision)

Conditional

Only in Laaja

Covers physical damage to the insured vehicle from running off the road, overturning, or an impact/collision; liability is capped at the vehicle's fair market value (käypä arvo) at the time of loss. Only available under the comprehensive (Laaja) cover level, not under the partial (Suppea) level.

Source

Total loss settlement

Covered

If repair is not economically justified, the vehicle is settled at its fair market value (käypä arvo) immediately before the loss, minus deductible. An optional Lunastusetu rider instead pays the price of a new equivalent vehicle if the vehicle is at most 3 years old, has been driven at most 60,000 km, and repair costs are at least 50% of the new price; otherwise Lunastusetu adds up to 30% on top of the fair market value.

Source

Partial damage / repair costs

Covered

Necessary and reasonable repair costs are reimbursed using appropriate repair methods and parts for the vehicle's age and condition; total liability is capped at the vehicle's fair market value.

Source

Theft / robbery

Covered

Covers loss or damage from theft, unlawful use, or attempted theft when the vehicle was locked or in a locked storage space; a robbery-enabled key theft is also covered. Payout for a missing vehicle requires 30 days without it being found and a police report. Liability is capped at the vehicle's fair market value; elevated percentage deductibles apply in several Eastern European countries.

Source

Glass damage

Covered

Covers windscreen, door, side, rear and roof glass broken by an outside impact. Glass repair (chip repair) carries no deductible; glass replacement carries a €200 deductible at a LähiTapiola partner repair shop or €300 elsewhere.

Source

Natural perils

Covered

Covers damage from a wind-felled tree or wind-blown object hitting a stationary vehicle, hail on the vehicle's exterior, and rising water while the vehicle is stationary with power disconnected; excludes damage from driving through flooded roads or areas.

Source

Vandalism

Covered

Covers intentional damage caused to the vehicle by a third party; excludes damage caused with another vehicle or occurring inside an unlocked vehicle. Included in both the partial (Suppea) and comprehensive (Laaja) cover levels.

Source

Roadside/towing assistance

€500 – €2,000

Optional cover for lifting the vehicle back onto the road and towing it to the nearest repair shop after a breakdown, accident, or fuel/energy depletion; travel, collection and other ancillary costs are capped at €500 for incidents in Finland and €2,000 abroad, while bus/truck towing and lifting costs are capped separately at €3,500. A €50 deductible applies if towing is done by a non-partner provider (no deductible via a LähiTapiola partner).

Source

Replacement vehicle

€50 – €100

Optional cover providing a replacement car/van (up to a C-class rental car or a max. 9 m3 panel van) or, if paid in cash instead, €50/day for a car or panel van and €100/day for a truck. A 3-day deductible period applies to the cash alternative, and use is capped at up to 30 days depending on the triggering event (down to 7 or 14 days in some scenarios).

Driver accident (insured vehicle)

Excluded

The policy's 'Kuljettajan tapaturma' cover applies only to accidents while riding a light electric mobility device (e.g. an e-scooter), not to the driver of the insured motor vehicle itself; no personal-accident cover for the car/motorcycle driver is included in this casco product.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The person driving the insured vehicle must hold a driving licence (or age-based right) valid for that vehicle class; the terms state no separate minimum age or years-of-experience requirement beyond this licensing rule.

Repair network requirements

The vehicle must be inspected at an approved repair shop before repair; LähiTapiola has the right to select the repair location and method, and the deductible differs between partner and non-partner repair shops (e.g. €200 vs €300 for glass replacement).

Territorial scope

Valid throughout Europe and in Green Card agreement countries outside the EEA, but not valid in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Israel, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia or Belarus.

Anti-theft requirements

Vehicle and equipment keys, remote controls and registration documents must not be left visible or in an unlocked place where a third party could expect to find them; detachable trailers, snowmobiles and quad bikes must be secured with an anti-theft chain/cable and lock, and lost or stolen keys require immediate re-coding of the immobiliser or another anti-theft measure.

Claim notification deadline

LähiTapiola must issue a claim decision within one month of receiving all necessary documents; a claim must generally be submitted within one year of the policyholder becoming aware of the loss, and in any case within ten years of the event.

Deductible rules

A per-claim-type deductible is stated on the policy schedule; glass repair (chip repair) carries no deductible while glass replacement and collision damage have fixed or selectable deductibles (€200–€1,000 for collision), and when theft and vandalism occur in the same incident only the single highest applicable deductible is charged.
