Direct payment

Show the Fennia insurance card or English-language insurance certificate to the doctor so the treatment facility can bill Fennia directly; if you pay yourself, keep the original receipts and submit a claim after the trip.

Geographic scope

Worldwide (fixed-term policy) or Finland plus abroad up to 3 months per trip (continuous policy)

A fixed-term travel insurance is valid worldwide for the agreed period. A continuous travel insurance is valid for a maximum of three months per trip starting from Finland; domestic cover requires travel at least 50 km from home.

Unique selling points

  • Medical expenses abroad are reimbursed without any euro-denominated upper limit.
  • Traveller insurance has no deductible at all for medical claims.
  • A single policy can cover the whole family at the same price as one named person.
  • Free 24/7 Reissuapu emergency assistance line arranges hospital payment guarantees and repatriation.
  • Evacuation and crisis cover includes up to five sessions of psychotherapy in Finland after a crisis event abroad.

Coverage limits

Medical expenses

unlimited

Traveller insurance covers medical costs arising from illness or accident during the trip without a euro-denominated upper limit; illness costs are covered for up to 90 days from the start of treatment and accident costs for up to three years from the accident.

Source

Emergency medical treatment

unlimited

Traveller insurance always includes cover for medical treatment costs caused by an unexpected illness or accident during the trip, with no upper monetary limit.

Source

Hospitalization

unlimited

Hospital costs are part of the uncapped medical expenses cover; hospitalisation during a trip also triggers trip-interruption compensation for lost travel days.

Source

Outpatient treatment

unlimited

Doctor's fees and medicine costs incurred during outpatient treatment abroad are reimbursed as part of the uncapped medical expenses cover, based on original receipts.

24/7 assistance service (Reissuapu)

Covered

Fennia's Reissuapu 24h service is available around the clock at +358 10 503 5503 to arrange payment guarantees to hospitals and organise medically approved repatriation; partner SOS International also assists in emergencies.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

For serious travel illnesses or accidents where a foreign hospital requires a payment guarantee before treatment begins, the insured must contact Fennia's Reissuapu 24h service (+358 10 503 5503) beforehand; repatriation transport always requires Fennia's prior approval.

Unauthorized treatment

Emergency transport back to Finland is only reimbursed if approved in advance by Fennia; costs for treatment at rehabilitation centres, spas or similar institutions are never reimbursed.

Purchase while abroad

The insurance must already be in force when the trip begins; cancellation cover additionally requires the policy to have started at least three days before departure, so cover cannot be purchased retroactively while already abroad on the same trip.

Chronic conditions

Sudden worsening of a pre-existing (chronic) illness during the trip is covered only for up to one week of acute first-aid-type treatment at the destination, and only if the worsening was not medically foreseeable.

Pregnancy

Costs arising from the normal course of pregnancy are not covered; only complications regarded as a disease condition under the policy terms are reimbursed.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

An illness is not considered a covered travel illness, and is excluded, if its symptoms appeared, or examinations were pending, before the trip started, even if diagnosed during the trip.

Coverage duration limit

Medical expenses caused by a travel illness are reimbursed for up to 90 days from the start of treatment; medical expenses caused by a travel accident are reimbursed for up to three years from the accident.
