Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

For serious illness or accident abroad where foreign hospitals require a payment commitment before treatment, the insured must contact Fennian Reissuapu 24h (+358 10 503 5503) before or during treatment. Medical repatriation to Finland always requires prior approval from Fennia via Reissuapu 24h.

Unauthorized treatment

If treatment is received without prior approval where required (e.g. medical repatriation), Fennia is not obligated to cover those costs. If the insured pays their own treatment costs, original receipts must be kept and a reimbursement claim submitted to Fennia within one year of the event.

Purchase while abroad

The insurance must be in force at the start of the trip. For a fixed-term (single-trip) policy, the premium must generally be paid before the policy takes effect. Purchase while already abroad is not mentioned as a permitted option.

Chronic conditions

Chronic or ongoing illnesses are not covered as travel illness if their symptoms appeared before departure or if examinations were ongoing before departure. Only an unexpected acute worsening during the trip may be partially covered (acute first-aid at destination, up to one week).

Pregnancy

Normal pregnancy progression and associated medical costs are not covered. Pregnancy complications classified as an illness (medical condition) are covered under travel illness coverage. Trip cancellation and interruption due to normal pregnancy are not covered.

pre_existing_conditions

Illnesses with symptoms present before departure or undergoing investigation before departure are excluded as travel illness. Acute unexpected worsening of a pre-existing condition during travel is partially covered: only acute first-aid treatment at the destination, for up to one week.

coverage_duration_limit

Continuous policy: valid for trips starting from Finland, maximum 3 months per trip from departure date. Fixed-term policy: valid for the agreed period anywhere in the world. Trips longer than 3 months must be reported to Fennia before departure and require extended coverage.
