Direct payment

The policyholder has free choice of repair shop. If an approved MAAF repairer is used, there is no upfront payment: the indemnity (minus any deductible) is paid directly to the repairer. If an independent garage is chosen instead, the policyholder pays first and is then reimbursed.

Geographic scope

Metropolitan France, French overseas departments and regions

France, all EU and EEA member states, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican City, San Marino, and any non-crossed-out country on the valid international motor insurance card (green card)

Unique selling points

  • Driver bodily injury cover of up to €1,000,000 under the Tous Risques Confort/Confort+ formulas, well above typical French market minimums.
  • Up to 20 days of replacement vehicle provided as standard in case of theft under Tous Risques Confort+, a duration rarely matched by traditional insurers.
  • Optional mechanical breakdown cover (Panne Mécanique) available in Tous Risques Confort+, extending protection to random mechanical failures that many competitors only sell as a separate warranty product.
  • MAAF Assistance is reachable 24/7, including from abroad, with a dedicated 'SOS Constat' service to help policyholders complete their accident report in real time.
  • No deductible applies when the windshield is repaired rather than replaced, encouraging cost-effective glass repairs over full replacement.

Coverage limits

All-Risk Own Damage Cover (Dommages tous accidents)

Covered

Covers impact with a fixed or moving object, overturning, accidental fall, riots/civil disturbances and vandalism/malicious acts, regardless of the driver's fault. Under Tous Risques Éco, the 'Eco' version of this guarantee only covers a parked vehicle if the person causing the damage can be identified; the full guarantee (Tous Risques Confort/Confort+) removes this restriction. There is no fixed sum insured: the indemnity is capped at the expert-assessed replacement value (valeur de remplacement) of the vehicle at the date of loss, not a declared capital amount.

Total Loss Settlement

Covered

In case of total loss (repair cost exceeds replacement value, or vehicle stolen and not recovered within 20 days) following a covered event, the insured is paid the expert-assessed replacement value of the vehicle, minus the value of the wreck if kept. A 12-month 'valeur d'acquisition' rule (reimbursement at original purchase price on presentation of the purchase invoice) applies to Tiers Essentiel+, Tous Risques Confort and Confort+ — it does NOT apply to Tous Risques Éco. Beyond the stated délai in the Conditions Particulières, the Indemnisation Renforcée option (Confort/Confort+) tops this up by 20% of replacement value (30% if vehicle is 5-7 years old, 40% if 8+ years old).

Partial Damage Repair Cover

Covered

Where the vehicle is repairable, indemnity equals the cost of repairs within the limit of the vehicle's replacement value, minus the value of the wreck if the vehicle is not repaired. A depreciation (vétusté) coefficient is applied to tyres and to non-series accessories/child seats. No fixed sum insured is declared; the cap is the vehicle's assessed replacement value.

Theft Cover (Vol)

Covered

Covers theft of the vehicle (by mechanical/electronic break-in, break-in of the garage, or violence against the keeper/driver) plus resulting damage. Under Tous Risques Éco, the 'Vol Éco' variant excludes attempted theft and theft of externally-fixed parts unless the garage itself was broken into; the full 'Vol' guarantee (Confort/Confort+) additionally covers attempted theft and theft of externally- or internally-fixed parts where break-in is evidenced. A police complaint certificate is always required. Indemnity is capped at the vehicle's assessed replacement value, not a fixed sum.

Glass Breakage Cover

Covered

Under Tous Risques Éco, only 'Bris de pare-brise' is included (windshield repair/replacement only). Under Tous Risques Confort and Confort+, the full 'Bris de glaces' guarantee covers the windshield, rear window, side windows, sunroof and headlamp lenses. Across all tiers, no deductible applies when the windshield is repaired rather than replaced (only applies on replacement). Policyholders using a MAAF-approved glass repairer benefit from direct settlement with no upfront payment.

Natural Disasters & Climatic Events Cover

Covered

Covers storm (wind over 100 km/h or objects thrown by wind), hail, unforeseeable flooding (Événements climatiques), and natural-disaster damage recognised by an official interministerial decree published in the Journal Officiel (Catastrophes naturelles). Both guarantees are included in all three Tous Risques formulas. The Catastrophes Naturelles deductible is fixed by the French Insurance Code, not by MAAF.

Vandalism / Malicious Acts Cover

Covered

Acts of vandalism or malicious damage are covered under the Dommages Tous Accidents guarantee (Eco version in Tous Risques Éco, full version in Confort/Confort+), subject to presentation of a police complaint certificate. Excludes acts committed by or with the complicity of the insured's spouse, ascendants/descendants, or employees living/working with them.

Roadside Assistance (Breakdown & Accident)

€180

MAAF Assistance is reachable 24/7. 'Assistance accident et panne' (towing/breakdown help for events beyond 50 km from home, no kilometre deductible for accident or theft) is included in all three Tous Risques formulas, with towing costs covered up to €180 and accommodation for stranded passengers up to €50/day for up to 5 days. The extended 'Assistance panne 0 km' (breakdown help even at/near home) is optional under Tous Risques Éco but included as standard under Tous Risques Confort and Confort+.

Replacement (Loan) Vehicle

Conditional

Only in Tous Risques Confort, Tous Risques Confort+

Not available under Tous Risques Éco. Under Tous Risques Confort, a loan vehicle for up to 3 days is included as standard (extendable to up to 20 days as a paid option); under Tous Risques Confort+, up to 20 days is included as standard (20 days for theft, 15 days for a covered damage event, 7 days for a breakdown towed by MAAF). If no loan vehicle can be provided (age/licence conditions, deposit, unavailability), MAAF pays a €40/day allowance instead, for the same maximum duration.

Driver Bodily Injury Cover

€10,050 – €1,000,000

Under Tous Risques Éco, the 'Dommages corporels du conducteur Eco' guarantee pays an invalidity capital of €10,050 to €500,000 depending on the permanent invalidity rate (no payment below 10% invalidity), plus reimbursement of medical costs up to €4,600, a €3,100 first-aid advance in case of hospitalisation over 20 days or death, and a €80,000 death capital for the spouse. Under Tous Risques Confort and Confort+, the full guarantee raises the invalidity capital range to €20,100–€1,000,000, with the same €4,600 medical cap, €3,100 first-aid advance and €80,000 spouse death capital (plus a per-month capital for dependent children under 21).

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

A special deductible applies when the vehicle is occasionally driven by an occasional novice driver (Tiers Essentiel/Essentiel+, Tous Risques Confort/Confort+) or by any undesignated driver (Tiers Éco/Tous Risques Éco) not declared on the Conditions Particulières. Extended coverage is granted for learner drivers in accompanied/supervised/framed driving schemes (minimum age 15, 18 or 16 respectively) provided the scheme and accompanying person are declared in advance and meet legal requirements (accompanying person licensed 5+ years, no disqualifying convictions).

Repair network requirements

The policyholder has free choice of repair shop. Using a MAAF-approved repairer allows direct settlement with no upfront payment (the indemnity, minus any deductible, is paid directly to the repairer); using an independent garage means the policyholder pays first and is reimbursed afterwards.

Territorial scope

Coverage applies in France, all EU/EEA member states, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican City, San Marino, and any country mentioned and not crossed out on the valid international motor insurance (green) card. For natural disasters and terrorism/attacks, cover is limited to metropolitan France and the French overseas departments/regions.

Anti-theft requirements

Theft cover requires evidence of forced entry (mechanical or electronic break-in) attested by expert assessment, or break-in of the garage where the vehicle was parked, or violence against the keeper/driver; a police complaint certificate must always be provided. Theft is excluded where keys were left on/in/under the vehicle, doors/boot/roof box were left unlocked, windows left open, or the garage left unlocked.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must be notified as soon as the policyholder becomes aware of the loss, and at the latest within 2 business days for theft, within 30 days of the publication of the interministerial decree for natural disasters, and within 5 business days for all other cases. Late notification causing prejudice to the insurer may result in loss of cover (forfeiture), though this cannot be invoked against injured third parties.

Deductible rules

A deductible (franchise), amount stated on the Conditions Particulières, applies to the Dommages au véhicule assuré guarantees and to Bris de pare-brise (on both repair and replacement) — no deductible applies when the windshield is repaired rather than replaced. A special (higher) deductible applies to Responsabilité Civile and Dommages Tous Accidents when an occasional novice/undesignated driver is not declared. Deductibles from several triggered guarantees cumulate on the same claim. The Catastrophes Naturelles deductible is fixed by the French Insurance Code. If damage is caused by an identified but uninsured and insolvent third party, MAAF reimburses the policyholder's deductible on the vehicle damage guarantee.
