Groupama is a travel insurance for the FR market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Direct payment (advance) of hospitalization costs is possible outside the country of domicile, subject to prior authorization by Mutuaide Assistance medical team and a formal commitment from the insured to reimburse amounts later recovered from health insurance bodies. Repatriation and medical transport costs are paid directly (frais réels). Standard medical expense reimbursement is made after primary insurer reimbursement, upon submission of original invoices.

Zone 1: France métropolitaine, Andorre, Monaco et pays européens listés (dont Algérie, Maroc, Tunisie, Turquie, Russie partie européenne). Zone 2: Reste du Monde. Exclusion des pays en guerre civile ou étrangère, instabilité politique, émeutes, terrorisme ou restriction à la libre circulation.

Medical expenses outside country of domicile
Covered
Reimbursement of medical fees, prescribed medications, ambulance, hospitalization (when medically non-transportable), and emergency dental costs (capped at 150 EUR, no deductible) incurred outside the country of domicile. Zone 1 (Europe and listed countries): up to 30,000 EUR with 50 EUR deductible. Zone 2 (rest of world): up to 150,000 EUR with 50 EUR deductible. Coverage is secondary: pays the portion not covered by the insured's primary health insurance. Requires prior agreement from Mutuaide Assistance. Ceases when repatriation becomes medically possible.

Emergency medical treatment is covered under the medical expenses reimbursement guarantee (Article 7). Covers medical fees and prescribed medications following sudden illness or accident outside the country of domicile. Zone 1: up to 30,000 EUR (50 EUR deductible); Zone 2: up to 150,000 EUR (50 EUR deductible). Prior authorization from Mutuaide Assistance is required except in genuine emergencies.

Hospitalization costs are covered when the insured is deemed non-transportable by the Mutuaide Assistance medical team. Covered within the overall medical expenses ceiling (Zone 1: 30,000 EUR; Zone 2: 150,000 EUR, both with 50 EUR deductible). An advance on hospitalization costs can also be provided pending reimbursement from primary insurer. Coverage ceases from the day repatriation becomes medically feasible.

Outpatient medical fees (consultations, prescribed medications) are covered under the medical expenses reimbursement guarantee, within the overall ceiling applicable to the zone (Zone 1: 30,000 EUR; Zone 2: 150,000 EUR). A 50 EUR deductible applies. Prior agreement from Mutuaide Assistance is required. Minor ailments that do not prevent continuation of travel are excluded.

Emergency dental care is covered up to 150 EUR with no deductible applied. Covered within the scope of the medical expenses reimbursement guarantee. Dental prostheses are explicitly excluded.

Covered
Medical transport and repatriation are covered at actual cost (frais réels). Covers transport to the nearest appropriate medical facility or back to the insured's home country. The Mutuaide Assistance medical team decides the transport modality. Ambulance costs to the nearest hospital are also covered for minor cases not requiring full repatriation. Excess baggage costs remain at the insured's expense.

Medical evacuation is covered at actual cost (frais réels). Mutuaide Assistance organizes and covers all repatriation costs to the insured's home or nearest appropriate hospital. Only medical criteria are considered for the timing, transport means, and destination. Refusal of the solution proposed by the medical team cancels the assistance guarantee entirely.

In the event of death during the stay, Mutuaide Assistance organizes and covers: transport of the body at actual cost (frais réels), legally-required conservation costs, and necessary transport-related costs (handling, specific arrangements, packaging) up to 2,500 EUR. Family member travel costs for death formalities are also covered (round-trip train 1st class or economy air + hotel up to 80 EUR/night, max 4 nights).
SourceSearch and rescue costs
Covered
Search and rescue costs at sea or in the mountains following a life-threatening event are covered up to 5,000 EUR per person and 15,000 EUR per event. Only costs invoiced by a duly approved organization are reimbursable. Mutuaide Assistance must be notified within 3 days of the intervention (except force majeure). Additionally, on-piste ski rescue costs are covered up to 1,500 EUR per person per event, including helicopter costs when ground rescue is impossible.
SourceCOVID-19 treatment
Excluded
The policy (Article 8) explicitly excludes consequences of infectious risk situations in epidemic context that are subject to quarantine or specific preventive measures by international or local health authorities. Standard COVID-19 medical treatment during travel is therefore excluded under contract n°5009. Note: other Groupama/Mutuaide product variants (Confort formula on voyage.groupama.fr) may include COVID coverage.

Pre-existing conditions that led to hospitalization within 6 months prior to the departure date are explicitly excluded (Article 8). Also excluded: ongoing treatments not yet stabilized and carrying a risk of sudden worsening (convalescences and conditions in active treatment). Conditions that are sudden and unforeseeable (maladie: altération soudaine et imprévisible) are covered.
SourceWinter sports / on-piste rescue
Covered
On-piste ski rescue costs are covered up to 1,500 EUR per person per event for accidents on open and marked ski runs (Article 7 - Frais de secours sur piste). Covers sled descent and helicopter or other means when ground services cannot reach the accident site. Mutuaide Assistance must be notified before the end of the ski stay or within 48 hours of the rescue. Competitive snow sports with national/international rankings, as well as off-piste extreme skiing, are excluded under general exclusions.

Explicitly excluded (Articles 8 and 10): aerial sports, mechanical sports (any motorized vehicle), paragliding, underwater speleology, specific high-altitude alpinism routes, unsecured climbing competitions, bobsleigh, dangerous game hunting, ice hockey, skeleton, combat sports, speleology, competitive snow sports with national/regional/international rankings. Amateur practice of these sports is also excluded. Standard leisure sports practiced safely and without competition rankings are covered.

Pregnancy is excluded except in the case of unforeseeable complications. Pregnancy beyond 36 weeks is excluded in all cases. Voluntary termination of pregnancy and post-delivery consequences are also excluded (Article 8). Unforeseeable and sudden pregnancy complications before 36 weeks may be covered under the general illness clause.

Covered
Covers pecuniary consequences of civil liability for bodily injury, material and consequential immaterial damage caused to third parties during private life activities abroad. Total limit: 4,500,000 EUR per claim (bodily + material + immaterial). Sub-limit for material and consequential immaterial damages: 750,000 EUR per claim with 150 EUR absolute deductible. Legal defense costs are covered by the insurer. Insured by Tokio Marine Europe Insurance Limited (policy no. 35.806.460). Applies only to persons domiciled in metropolitan France or overseas departments who subscribed via a tour operator or travel agency.

In the event of judicial proceedings or incarceration for unintentional violation of local laws abroad, Mutuaide Assistance provides: advance of criminal bail up to 8,000 EUR; advance of lawyer fees up to 1,500 EUR. Advances must be repaid within one month of Mutuaide's reimbursement request. Not applicable for facts related to professional activities or use of motor vehicles.

Mutuaide Assistance operates a 24/7 assistance service (7 days/7, 24h/24) reachable at +33 1 55 98 87 89 or medical@mutuaide.fr. A telephone call from the insured at the time of the event is the sole trigger for assistance services. The service organizes all medical, logistical, and legal assistance measures provided under the contract.

Assistance call deadline
The insured must contact Mutuaide Assistance by telephone at the time of the event. Only this call triggers assistance services. For search and rescue claims, Mutuaide must be informed within 3 days of the intervention (except force majeure). For on-piste ski rescue, notification must be made before the end of the ski resort stay or within 48 hours of the intervention.
Unauthorized treatment
Any expense incurred without prior agreement from Mutuaide Assistance will not be reimbursed. The insured must obtain prior approval before incurring any medical costs. Exception applies in genuine emergency situations, where contact must be established as soon as possible. Refusal of the medical solution proposed by Mutuaide's medical team cancels the entire personal assistance guarantee.
Purchase while abroad
The contract must be subscribed before the departure date. However, it may be subscribed from the place of stay only if it supplements an existing personal insurance (e.g. bank card insurance) and is taken out immediately following and without interruption from the previous personal contract in force.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases or ongoing conditions that are not yet stabilized and carry a risk of sudden worsening (convalescences) are excluded. Diseases that led to hospitalization within the 6 months prior to departure are explicitly excluded. Only sudden and unforeseeable health alterations are considered insurable events.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is excluded as a covered event, except in the case of unforeseeable complications. In all cases, pregnancy beyond 36 weeks is excluded. Voluntary termination of pregnancy and consequences of childbirth are also excluded.
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing conditions that resulted in hospitalization within the 6 months preceding the departure date are excluded. Conditions under active treatment that are not yet stabilized (presenting a risk of sudden worsening) are also excluded. Events related to medical treatment or surgical intervention that are not unforeseeable, fortuitous, or accidental are excluded.
coverage_duration_limit
Membership is limited to a maximum of 12 consecutive months. Renewal is only accepted immediately following and without interruption from the previous contract, but the total combined duration (initial membership plus renewal) may not exceed 12 consecutive months.
