Regulatory updates
In 2025, BaFin approved the planned merger between SDK and the Stuttgarter Versicherungsgruppe. BaFin authorized the merger of Süddeutsche Lebensversicherung a.G. into Stuttgarter Lebensversicherung a.G. and the transfer of Süddeutsche Allgemeine Versicherung a.G.'s business to Stuttgarter Versicherung AG, retroactive to January 1, 2025, creating a combined group with over 1.8 million contracts and roughly 1.6 thousand employees; SDK itself (the health insurer) continues to operate as the health insurance specialist within the new group structure.
