Online purchase

Direct payment

As a direct insurer, DA Direkt is authorized to settle or defend third-party claims directly in the policyholder's name (Regulierungsvollmacht), paying valid claims in cash and defending unfounded claims at its own cost.

Geographic scope

Europe within its geographical borders and non-European territories belonging to the European Union

Coverage applies throughout geographical Europe and EU non-European territories; the Schutzbrief (roadside assistance) additionally covers non-European Mediterranean bordering states; coverage can be extended to other listed countries via the International Insurance Card (Green Card).

Unique selling points

  • Flat 100 million EUR combined liability coverage sum per event, well above the German statutory minimum.
  • Automatic 'Mallorca Policy' protection for rental cars, motorcycles and camper vans driven abroad on holiday.
  • Free hospital daily allowance for belted occupants injured in an accident, included at no extra premium.
  • Second-car policies can inherit the first car's no-claims class up to SF 30, cutting the cost of insuring an additional vehicle.

Coverage limits

Bodily injury liability coverage limit

€8,000,000 – €15,000,000

DA Direkt offers a flat combined coverage sum of 100 million EUR per event for personal injury, property damage and pure financial loss together; compensation per injured person is capped at 15 million EUR in the standard tariff and at 8 million EUR in the Basis tariff. A statutory minimum coverage sum can also be selected.

Source

Property damage liability coverage limit

€100,000,000

Property damage (and pure financial loss) is covered under the same flat combined sum of 100 million EUR per event shared with bodily injury claims; no separate per-claimant sublimit applies to property damage.

Defence against unfounded liability claims

Covered

DA Direkt is authorized and obliged to defend the policyholder against unfounded or partly unfounded third-party claims at its own cost; costs incurred by the insurer for this defence are not deducted from the agreed sum insured.

International Insurance Card (Green Card)

Covered

On request, DA Direkt issues an International Insurance Card (Green Card) extending third-party liability coverage to the non-European countries listed on the card, provided the country name is not struck out, at least to the level required by this contract.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Coverage applies throughout geographical Europe and the non-European territories of the EU; extension to other countries must be separately agreed, and an International Insurance Card can extend liability cover further.

Green card rules

If issued, the International Insurance Card (IVK) extends MTPL coverage to the non-European countries listed on it, as long as the country name is not struck through; coverage follows at least the scope of this contract. The card can be requested from the insurer.

Driver restrictions

The vehicle may only be used by a driver authorised by the person entitled to dispose of the vehicle, who holds the legally required driving licence; the permitted circle of drivers is a rating factor (Tarifmerkmal) recorded on the policy schedule and its unauthorised extension can lead to a reduction or loss of cover.

Claim notification deadline

Any event that may lead to a claim must be reported within one week; claims asserted against the policyholder out of court must likewise be reported within one week of being raised. Property damage expected not to exceed 1,000 EUR may first be settled directly by the policyholder and only needs to be reported if self-settlement fails.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums are based on no-claims classes (SF 0 to SF 50 for cars) with KH rates ranging from 100% (Class 0) down to 16% (SF 50), plus malus classes S and M for heavily claims-loaded contracts; a second vehicle can receive the same no-claims classification as the first vehicle up to a maximum of SF 30, and classes are reassessed annually on 1 January based on the prior year's claims history.
