Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover applies within the geographical borders of Europe, EU overseas territories, and further regions such as Greenland, the Faroe Islands and the Canary Islands; abroad, at least the legally required minimum cover of the visited country applies.

Green card rules

If a green card has been issued, cover also extends to the non-European countries listed on it (unless struck through), applying the destination country's legal minimum requirement or the contract's own scope, whichever is higher.

Driver restrictions

The vehicle may only be used by an authorised driver holding the required driving licence; driving while unfit due to alcohol or other intoxicating substances constitutes a breach of policy obligations and can reduce or exclude cover, subject to statutory caps.

Claim notification deadline

Policyholders must notify SIGNAL IDUNA of any event that may lead to a claim within one week; claims formally asserted against the policyholder must likewise be reported within one week of being raised.

Bonus-malus rules

The no-claims discount (Schadenfreiheitsrabatt) system currently runs up to class SF 45; premiums fall for claim-free years and rise after claims according to the no-claims class tables, with special starter classes for second cars, new drivers and 'accompanied driving from 17' participants, and an optional no-claims-class protection ('Rabattschutz') for one claim per calendar year.
